[BL]The Matchmaker Guide Doesn't Want Love
Chapter 128: Ch 128: Then Success of the experiment - Part 2
Noah decided to attend breakfast the next day after he felt a little better. And so did Ethan’s parents.
For the second time since they came here, both of Ethan’s parents decided to attend breakfast, and their eyes looked at Noah with interest.
He tried his best to pretend he did not see their interest, but it was hard to fake indifference when his hands kept shaking the whole time he was eating.
It did not help that Ethan’s mother decided to take extra interest in him due to his experiment and kept singling him out during breakfast.
"Noah, here, take this as well. What else would you like? Perhaps, this salad? You should try it! I made it myself."
Ethan’s mother promised as she extended the dish in her hand toward Noah, and he awkwardly plated it but decided not to eat it.
In fact, he made sure to steer everyone clear of the dishes suggested by Ethan’s mother because he was afraid of what she was capable of when she put her mind to something. Luckily for Noah, she did not push him much.
But the way her eyes looked at Noah told him that she was still going to keep tabs on him.
Her weird and obsessive behaviour did not escape Ethan and the others, and Alan decided to crack a joke about what was happening.
"You know, Noah, I think you are a guide magnet. Somehow, you attract guides more than you attract espers. First Daniel and now Ethan’s mother. At this rate, you might even get kidnapped by a guide instead of an esper. What will I do then?"
Alan tried to joke around... no, was that even a joke? His eyes looked far too serious for it to be a joke.
Noah felt like he could not take his words as a joke. But Ethan’s mother was a different breed.
She reached out to place her arms around Noah’s shoulders before she agreed with Alan.
"You are right. Noah is a guide magnet. He charmed me so much that I just want to keep him with me. Ethan, what do you think about us keeping Noah? He can be your brother and—"
"Mother, stop it! You are embarrassing me here. Noah, I am so sorry about this..."
Ethan buried his face in his hand in order to hide his shame. He did not want Noah as his brother, but his mother seemed to have made up her mind.
His words made his mother frown and pout at his decision.
"Tsk, this is why I feel sorry for you, my child. Here I am, trying to secure a future for you, and you have to go ahead and toss my goodwill aside. Noah, knock some sense into my thick-skulled son, would you?"
"Mother—!"
Ethan tried to protest, and Noah kept looking at them with an awkward expression. Finally, he sighed and nodded toward Ethan’s mother with a bow. He did not say anything because he was afraid that his true feelings would spill over.
"Oh wow! I have heard mothers making it harder for their partners to find a match, but this is the first time I have seen one actively trying to set up her son with someone."
Alan’s words were filled with a hint of malice, but Ethan’s mother just laughed his words out loud.
"Oh, it’s because I came to like Noah. You like me as well, right, Noah?"
Ethan’s mother asked, and Noah almost choked on his food. He corrected his posture before he looked back at her with a strained smile.
"I am sure you are a lovely human being. But I am afraid I am not ready to have a relationship yet."
Noah firmly turned her down, which made Ethan’s mother frown. But she quickly wiped it off her face and looked at him with a calm look in her eyes.
Ethan continued to sit this whole time with his face in his hands, and as for Daniel... he did not say much. He just kept looking at Ethan’s mother with a look of disapproval on his face.
The atmosphere at the table became even more awkward after that.
Noah could feel Daniel’s gaze moving between him and Ethan’s mother, and he quietly wondered if Daniel had noticed something that he had missed.
But before he could think about it any further, Ethan’s father finally spoke.
"Enough. We are leaving soon, and you should all finish your breakfast."
His voice was calm, but there was something strange about the way he looked at Ethan’s mother.
She immediately stopped teasing them and returned to eating as if nothing had happened.
Noah lowered his gaze and focused on his plate.
He wanted to leave.
He wanted to leave this house, return to the academy, and never have to see Ethan’s parents again.
Unfortunately, his body was still not fully recovered, and the thought of travelling back to the academy made him feel exhausted already.
Still, staying here was worse.
"Are you feeling better, Noah?"
Ethan suddenly asked.
Noah looked up and gave him a small smile.
"Much better. I think I will be fine once we get back to the academy."
"That is good to hear."
Ethan smiled in relief before turning back to his food.
Noah quietly watched him for a moment.
Ethan had no idea what his parents had done.
He had no idea that the people sitting at the same table were involved in something far more dangerous than he could imagine.
Noah almost felt guilty for keeping it from him.
Almost.
Because if Ethan knew the truth, Noah had no idea what his parents would do to him.
And Noah did not want another person getting hurt because of him.
He silently finished his breakfast and prepared himself for the journey back to the academy.
The moment they stepped out of the mansion, Noah felt as though he could finally breathe again.
But that relief did not last long because it was time to head to the academy. But before Noah could finish packing, Ethan’s mother came to personally see him off.
