Chapter 125: Ch 125: Small help with Experiment - Part 2

Noah’s eyes widened as he realised what was happening. The white mist was unfamiliar, but his instincts were telling him to run away from it as far as he could.

’They are starting the experiment!’

He tried to step back, but his legs felt weak, and his vision was already beginning to blur. The gas was beginning to hurt him from the inside, and he felt his powers threatening to break out of control in order to try and protect him.

Outside the chamber, Ethan’s mother raised her hand and pressed a button on the control panel. Her smile widened as she watched Noah’s reaction.

The moment she pressed the button, Noah felt something enter his body.

It was not guiding energy, nor was it esper energy, but it felt like something entirely different.

His body reacted immediately, and the pain that followed made Noah bite down hard on his teeth to stop himself from screaming.

’What the hell did they put inside me?’

For the first time since entering the chamber, Noah stopped thinking about uncovering the truth. His body felt like it was being torn apart from the inside.

He only wanted to get out.

"Let... me... out..."

His desperate cries grew stronger by the second, and he was banging so hard at the glass that his hands were beginning to bleed now.

Noah watched as Ethan’s mother walked toward the glass chamber, and he hoped that she would see his condition and stop the experiment.

But all his hopes were dashed when he actually saw her smiling face. She looked excited, almost as if this was what she wanted.

"Dear child, pain is a part of progress. The more pain you feel, the more powerful you become."

Noah heard her muffled words through the fog threatening to cover his mind. It was too much, and memories of the past were being dragged out toward the front of his mind.

’I don’t want to do this anymore! It’s better to be dead than to be in this agony. Someone, put an end to me.’

[Unwanted thoughts are not allowed. Unsavoury thoughts will be erased and your mindset will be cleaned]

That was another feeling Noah did not like. He did not like how the power was continuously trying to ease his thoughts as soon as they formed.

All Noah could do at this point was collapse and think about his past. But he was not even allowed to complain about it or mourn it because the system kept erasing all his pain and suffering.

Finally, after what felt like forever, Noah was finally allowed some rest as the experiment came to an end.

His body felt like it was breaking from all sides, and he tried his best to remain calm and get some rest.

The chamber door opened, and Ethan’s mother finally entered the room with a slightly fascinated look.

"You did well enduring all of this alone. Now, show me the fruit of my labour. Let me feel the change—"

Ethan’s mother was an esper as well, but Noah had not noticed it until now because she was not that powerful.

But even someone like her could make Noah feel tired and scared at the moment.

He watched her reaching for Noah, and it made him flinch. He took a step back, only for his back to hit the chamber.

"Tsk, what are you so scared of? The important part is over. Now all you need to do is allow me to check up on you—"

The second the female esper touched Noah, he froze and locked up his guiding. He did not want to guide her after what he had been through.

His lack of guiding was instantly noticed by Ethan’s mother, which made her frown.

"What is going on here? You should be guiding me right now even without warning. But I cannot sense any guiding inside you. Where is your guiding?"

The female scientist looked shocked at the lack of response from Noah’s side, and her mind panicked a little.

"Subject S-001, I command you to guide me right now! This is an order! Are you going to disobey my order? How dare you—"

The female sounded angrier beyond measure as she clutched Noah’s shoulder tighter. It was beginning to hurt under her grip.

But even if she demanded Noah to guide her, he could not do that. He did not want to guide her, no matter what.

The more he protested, the angrier Ethan’s mother got until she could not take it anymore.

"Is this some kind of protest? Are you trying to make me feel bad by doing all this? So what if you got hurt a little bit? Pain is the price we all have to pay for scientific advancement, and I—"

She tried to make sense of what she was saying, but to Noah, it all sounded like gibberish. He did not even know what to say to this anymore.

All he could do was close his eyes and pray that this nightmare would be over soon.

Slap

"Are you getting distracted now? Just what do you think you are trying to accomplish here? I should—"

"Hey, this is enough. The medicine must have messed with this body and caused a mess. I am sure it will be fine once it wears off from his senses."

Ethan’s father finally interfered and grabbed his wife’s hand before she could grab Noah. His interference made the female angrier, and she turned toward him as her next target.

"What do you think you are doing here? This is between me and him—"

"But you are going too far. I know you said this is your pride and joy, but this is also an experimental drug and not proven to work 100%. There is no need for you to be making a mess like this."

Her husband reminded Ethan’s mother, and she took a deep breath to calm herself down.

"You are right. I guess I overreacted here. I am sorry, Ethan. You will forgive me, right? I just got a little too excited..."
