[BL]The Matchmaker Guide Doesn't Want Love
Chapter 124: Ch 124: Small help with Experiment - Part 1
Noah followed Ethan’s mother back to the section where her lab was situated and immediately felt alarm bells ringing inside his head.
The white, sanitised walls, along with the smell of antiseptic, made Noah feel nauseated. He tried to control his gag reflex, but his body reflexively heaved in protest.
"What’s wrong? You are behaving like you have some trauma. But surely someone like you must be used to this by now."
Ethan’s mother looked at Noah with an indifferent face, but her words indicated that she knew something about Noah that he did not want the world to know.
Noah opened his mouth to ask the woman what she knew about him but decided not to speak in the end. He did not even want to try and untangle this mess...
Or rather, his instincts were telling him that he would regret knowing the truth here.
But Ethan’s mother decided she wanted to speak to Ethan right now and drag out all the connections they had with each other.
"You know, you were my first choice to bring along and adopt, Noah. But I really did not like your name. I wanted to name you something else when we first started with you. I wanted your name to reflect your serial number, S-001. But then the fire happened, and we all got to know that you had practically no powers. Alas, we were given someone else to look after soon enough."
Ethan’s mother made an open confession, and her smile widened. There was no hesitation on her face when she told Noah this, and he felt uneasy being with her now.
"Are you associated with the labs?"
Noah knew he should be pretending he did not know what Ethan’s mother was talking about, but he still asked this question, feeling too shocked right now.
It made Ethan’s mother let out an amused laugh.
"Am I associated with the labs? Who knows. There is no need for you to worry about such things. All you need to do is follow my instructions. If you do, then nothing will happen to you or the kids."
The female scientist had already led Noah toward the well-guarded section, so he knew that running away would be impossible. From here on, he was at the mercy of Ethan’s mother, and she was well aware of this fact.
"Now, let’s see what we can use your help with. Darling~, I brought someone here to help us out. What do we have scheduled for today?"
The female scientist skipped over to her husband, where she lovingly draped herself over his back and looked at the schedule. Noah also felt a need to check the schedule, but he decided to stay back for now.
They both looked at the schedule with smiles on their faces before they turned to look at Noah with the same creepy smiles.
"Don’t worry, child. You are not going to get hurt under our expert hands. We will make sure you have the best experience here."
The female scientist promised, her words all but a lie that made Noah feel scared and annoyed at the same time.
But at the same time, he was curious about these experiments, so he decided to comply with them for now.
"Alright, what do you want me to do first?"
Noah asked, and the female scientist’s smile broadened.
"We are currently trying to prepare evidence that we can amplify a guide’s guiding capabilities and even convert a low-grade guide into the highest grade. Since you are a Grade-B guide, you are the perfect person for our experiment. Don’t worry! This is not going to hurt. All you have to do is swallow some pills and stand in that chamber."
The female scientist pointed, and it looked sketchy no matter how you saw it.
The chamber they were pointing at had a translucent exterior and a lot of other stuff filling it. Noah was sure he was going to suffocate the second he took a step inside there.
And yet, he felt like he had no choice if he wanted to know what was going on.
’This feels like I am back at the labs with no way out. What should I do now?’
Noah asked this question to himself, but his feet moved on their own, and he was inside the chamber before he knew it.
He noticed the female scientist’s smile widening at his cooperativeness.
"Thank you, dear child. You are a big help for the scientific community. I am sure my son will change as well once he sees how cooperative you are."
The female scientist said softly, and Noah suddenly felt a pang of regret at his actions. He did not want to influence Ethan’s decision, nor make him feel like he had to help.
But it was too late to get out since the doors that held him in were already closing around him.
A sudden sense of panic threatened to overwhelm Noah as he was being shut inside that chamber.
He had never felt claustrophobic, but for the first time, he felt like the air around him was becoming less and less prominent. His throat was also closing up, indicating that he was starting to hyperventilate.
Noah tried to smash the glass to let the others know that something was wrong with him, but no one came to help.
In fact, the scientist walked over to the glass tube Noah was in, and he saw her hand on the other side of the glass. But she simply looked at Noah without helping him out.
Noah could see Ethan’s mother mouthing something at him, but he felt too panicked to reply to her.
Noah could barely breathe as the panic continued to build inside him. His hands trembled as he pressed them against the glass, desperately trying to calm himself down.
’Calm down. This is just a chamber. I have survived worse than this.’
But his body refused to listen to his reasoning.
The scientist continued watching him with that same strange smile, as if Noah’s panic was nothing more than another interesting result for her experiment.
Then, the chamber suddenly began to fill with a faint white mist.
