Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 523: Oh No, the Bride Killed Herself
"Are you okay? I’ll get you a glass of water." Nina Scott looked at Miles Mercer. ’He’s sick, so why is he trying to act tough? Doesn’t he know he should be at home resting?’
A hotel waiter quickly brought over a glass of water, but Miles Mercer had no intention of taking it.
Knowing what he was like, Nina Scott took the water for him and handed it to him. "Here, drink."
"Someone else touched it. I won’t drink it," Miles Mercer said flatly, not even reaching for it.
It had indeed been a waitress who brought it over. Nina Scott said, "Fine, I’ll get a male waiter for you, how about that?"
In the end, a male waiter brought one over, but Miles Mercer still wouldn’t drink it.
"Why are you so difficult? Fine, I’ll go get it for you myself, alright?"
Nina Scott went and got a glass of water, and when she handed it to Miles Mercer, this time, he actually took it.
Christian Sawyer, who was sitting nearby, saw this and said, "You two seem to have a pretty good relationship. I’m thirsty too, how about getting a glass for me?"
Nina Scott looked at the two glasses of water in front of her and pushed them both toward Christian Sawyer. "Perfect. You can have these two."
Christian Sawyer: "..."
Christian Sawyer felt that with another man around, he and Nina Scott just couldn’t get a conversation going.
Moreover, just having this man sitting here created a lot of pressure. He had an air of detachment from worldly affairs that made Christian Sawyer feel uncomfortable.
"Why don’t we go chat over there?" Christian Sawyer suggested.
"Okay," Nina Scott agreed.
Just then, Miles Mercer spoke up coldly, "What’s there to talk about?"
"This is my old classmate. We haven’t seen each other in a long time. You just sit here. Pudgy Sawyer, let’s go!"
Nina Scott led Christian Sawyer away, and a trace of annoyance flashed across Miles Mercer’s face.
Miles Mercer was already quite handsome, and with him sitting there, exuding such a powerful aura, he naturally attracted the attention of quite a few young women.
There was no shortage of guests today, so naturally, someone noticed Miles Mercer. A young woman walked over. "Hey, handsome, mind if I sit next to you?"
"It’s not convenient," Miles Mercer refused.
However, the woman thought Miles Mercer was just being shy and sat down on her own accord.
"Let’s just be friends. I think you’re pretty handsome. Do you have a..."
Before she could even get the word "girlfriend" out, Miles Mercer interrupted her. "I’m already married."
Miles Mercer stood up, putting some distance between himself and the woman.
’These women clearly have improper designs on me.’ He was utterly repulsed.
The woman said, "Who are you trying to fool? You’re married but you don’t even have a ring?"
Miles Mercer glanced down at his own finger. He indeed didn’t have a ring. ’Wait, you’re supposed to wear a ring when you’re married?’
’So if I wore a ring, would these people know I’m married and not approach me?’
He glanced over at Nina Scott in the distance. ’If Nina had a ring too, would those other people know she’s married and stop pestering her?’
Miles Mercer immediately sent a message, telling someone to start designing some ring styles for him to choose from.
Miles Mercer was already handsome, so even after getting rid of one woman, several more immediately took her place. He was like a humble friar on a holy quest who had stumbled into The Silken Cave, completely at a loss. Even though he was clearly showing his impatience, the women saw his reaction and just thought he was so innocent and cute.
Miles Mercer finally couldn’t take it anymore and shouted in her direction, "Nina Scott!"
Nina Scott heard his voice and turned her head, only to find Miles Mercer completely surrounded by women.
’Oh no,’ she thought. ’Third Young Master Mercer is definitely going to be upset again.’
Nina Scott hurried over, squeezing through the crowd of women. "What do you all think you’re doing? You like the look of my husband?"
"Your husband?" The other women looked at Nina Scott. After all, the guests today were relatives of either the Walker Family or the Scott Family, and quite a few of them recognized Nina.
"Nina Scott, when did you get married?"
"Just recently," Nina Scott answered openly.
"I don’t believe you. How could you possibly find a husband this handsome?"
In response to the disbelievers, Nina Scott let out a cold laugh, then pulled two pieces of paper from her bag. "See for yourselves."
They were the extra photocopies of her marriage certificate that Nina had made last time.
"I’m not showing you the original; I’m afraid you’ll get jealous and ruin it. These are copies, so you can just pass them around. This man is mine, so don’t even think about it."
The women hadn’t expected Nina Scott to actually be married, let alone to such a handsome husband.
With Nina Scott stepping in, Miles Mercer’s expression softened slightly.
’This woman,’ he thought, ’she definitely has feelings for me. Why else would she carry copies of our marriage certificate around and show them to everyone?’
’Just now, when she was with that other guy, she didn’t acknowledge me as her husband or even introduce me. But now that I’m surrounded by these women, she comes running over. She must be jealous!’
A chaotic mess of thoughts was already running through Miles Mercer’s mind. The more he thought about it, the more he was convinced that Nina Scott was playing hard to get. ’She must have been deliberately chatting so enthusiastically with that guy to make me jealous. Then, when she saw me surrounded by women, she finally got worried, right?’
Nina Scott’s words didn’t sit well with the women, and they retorted indignantly, "So what if he’s yours? We weren’t doing anything, just coming over to chat. You’re not so controlling that you won’t even let him talk to people, are you?"
"Oh, I don’t really mind. But he’s not what you think. He looks handsome, sure, but he’s actually dirt poor. He probably couldn’t even scrape together a hundred bucks."
Miles Mercer: "..."
The other women: "?"
’So he’s just a poor guy. Never mind then.’
"Let’s go, let’s go. I was wondering how a guy like that would fall for you. Turns out you’re his sugar mama. Forget it, forget it." Hearing that Miles Mercer had no money, the women quickly left.
Nina Scott dragged him to a deserted corner. "If you dislike women so much, what are you even doing out here?"
"You’re ruining my reputation again!"
"Does your reputation even need my help to be ruined? It wasn’t that great to begin with. Or what, you actually enjoy being swarmed by those women? I could go tell them you’re a billionaire and have them come back, you know."
"You wouldn’t dare!"
Nina Scott saw that Miles Mercer’s face was completely red, though she couldn’t tell if it was from embarrassment or anger.
"What’s so bad about women anyway? They’re pretty, they smell nice, they’re soft... Why do you treat them like they’re some kind of natural disaster?" Nina teased.
She even moved closer to Miles Mercer, pressing her body against his, and asked, "What about me? When I’m like this, do you also feel really uncomfortable and awkward?"
Miles Mercer: "..."
Miles Mercer realized that Nina Scott getting close felt different from when other women did. When any other woman got near, he would feel an intense revulsion, an automatic, physical rejection. But when Nina got close, his heart just sped up; he didn’t feel that sense of disgust.
"Miles Mercer, you..." Just as Nina Scott started to say something, a commotion erupted from the other side of the room.
"Help! The bride killed herself!"
