Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 522: Silent Jealousy
"Get out!" Seth Scott’s temples throbbed. The sight of Yara Scott disgusted him.
Yara Scott tried to reach for Seth Scott, but he shoved her away.
Yara Scott crumpled to the floor, sobbing her heart out.
Mrs. Scott remained unconscious in the hospital for two full days. After what had happened, she had grown to utterly despise Yara Scott.
Yara even wanted to pack her bags and run for it. She planned to grab some money from the Scott family and disappear, but Nina wasn’t about to let her get away that easily.
She had Miles Mercer hire a few people to keep an eye on Yara. If Yara so much as tried to run, they were to drag her right back.
There was no escape for Yara. She couldn’t even go back to the Scott family’s house now.
’Yara has done so much wrong over the years; it’s time she paid the price. I’ve waited so long for this day. The show’s not over yet.’
When Mrs. Scott realized how long she’d been unconscious, her first words were, "Where’s my son? And Yara? That bitch didn’t try something with my son again, did she?"
Nina said, "Don’t worry. She tried to run, but I stopped her."
"While you were unconscious, I helped send out the invitations for the Scott family. No need to thank me. And my brother’s fine, so you can stop worrying."
"What invitations?" Mrs. Scott asked.
Nina said, "To your relatives, of course. I noticed you hadn’t sent many, so I helped write up a few more and let more people know."
"You!"
Mrs. Scott hadn’t planned on inviting many people in the first place. This was hardly a joyous occasion; the Scott family was mired in scandal.
But she never expected Nina to have notified everyone.
Nina stood up, looking down at Mrs. Scott condescendingly. "What’s wrong? A joyous event like the Scott family marrying off a daughter, and you weren’t planning on telling your relatives? Everyone knows how much you cherish your precious Yara."
"Now you should see Yara’s true colors. Since you’re awake, I’m done meddling in the Scott family’s affairs. You can handle Yara yourself."
Nina was washing her hands of the matter completely. ’Mrs. Scott’s methods are far more ruthless than mine.’
Nina said, "By the way, my husband already gave me the bride price. So don’t go spouting all that nonsense in front of him in the future."
"That pauper! You should divorce him as soon as possible!" Mrs. Scott was still not happy with Miles Mercer.
She’d barely met the man, but she just didn’t like him.
"Why would I divorce him? I’m perfectly happy with my life right now."
’Besides, Miles is no pauper. Of course, there’s no need to tell Mrs. Scott that.’
「Soon, the day of Yara Scott and Cameron Walker’s wedding arrived.」
Yara was being watched by Mrs. Scott’s people and had nowhere to run. They didn’t even give her food. After two days of starvation, Yara became much more compliant.
This was Cameron Walker’s second marriage, so he hadn’t invited many guests. The Scott family’s list was also supposed to be short, but after Nina spread the word, the guest count ballooned.
Mrs. Scott and Mr. Scott both had grim expressions, looking anything but happy.
On the other side, the members of the Walker family were also greeting guests with strained smiles.
The only one who seemed happy to be there was probably Nina Scott.
Nina was off to the side, leisurely cracking sunflower seeds. She was in high spirits.
Just then, someone walked up to Nina. "You’re Nina Scott, right?"
Nina looked at the man. "You are...?"
"It’s me, Christian Sawyer. Don’t you remember? We went to the same high school."
It finally clicked for Nina. "Christian Sawyer! It is you! You’ve lost so much weight, I almost didn’t recognize you."
Back in school, Christian Sawyer had been a chubby kid who smiled a lot. She never expected him to grow up to be so handsome and mature.
"I almost didn’t recognize you, either. This is supposed to be a happy occasion for your family, so why does everyone look so glum? It doesn’t feel very festive. Besides, doesn’t your mom adore Yara? How could she bear to marry her off to a man who’s already been divorced?"
"I don’t know. I’m not sure," Nina said.
"So your relationship with the Scott family is still that bad?" Christian Sawyer asked.
"I’d say it’s fine now. Not as bad as it was."
"By the way, there’s a high school reunion in a few days. Are you going?"
"Probably not. I don’t feel like it." Nina wasn’t particularly close with her other classmates; Ivy Sherwood was her only really good friend.
"Do you remember ’Big Head’ from our class? He’s hilarious. Just the other day, he..."
Christian Sawyer and Nina chatted away. As former classmates, they had a lot to talk about, especially when it came to gossiping about their old schoolmates.
"For real?" Nina asked after he finished.
"Of course it’s real! A ton of people were making fun of him. Oh, and you remember that sturdy-looking kid? He’s recently been..."
Christian and Nina were getting along great. They had their heads together as Christian showed her some photos on his phone.
Nina didn’t even notice the man standing not far away, a look of pure annoyance on his face.
Miles Mercer strode directly toward her. He could hear her laughter from a distance, wondering what she found so amusing.
Miles drew close, but Nina still hadn’t noticed him.
Nina seemed even more delighted, playfully slapping Christian on the shoulder. "Pudgy Sawyer, I can’t believe you did something like that when you were a kid!"
"AHEM!" Miles cleared his throat.
But with the surrounding noise, neither of them heard a thing.
With a dark expression, Miles tapped his fingers on the table.
Nina and Christian looked up, finally noticing Miles.
Interrupted, Christian was a bit bewildered. "Who are you, man? Are you one of our old classmates, too?"
Nina said, "I think he’s here for me." Then to Miles, "What are you doing here? When did you get here?"
Nina hadn’t known Miles was coming.
"Grandfather sent me," Miles said coldly.
’In reality, he was worried. After everything Nina had done, the Scotts or Yara might feel resentful. What if they tried to hurt her?’
’Even though he didn’t like this woman, given their current relationship, he had a responsibility to protect her.’
’My grandpa sent him?’
’Somehow, she didn’t quite believe that.’
"Well, find a seat anywhere then. But I’d advise you to keep a low profile. It’s a wedding, after all. You know what they say, ’Better to demolish ten temples than to ruin one marriage.’"
Miles promptly sat down right next to Nina. Seeing this, Christian asked, "And this is...?"
Miles also looked at Nina, apparently curious to see how she would answer.
Nina waved a dismissive hand. "Just a friend. Don’t mind him. Now, where were we?"
Christian started talking again, but Miles cleared his throat from the side, interrupting their conversation.
"What’s wrong?" Nina asked. "Is your throat bothering you? Catch a cold?"
"No." Miles’s expression was unchanged.
"Oh." Since he said no, Nina didn’t press the issue.
She turned back to continue her conversation with Christian. "Actually, back in school, I..."
"COUGH! COUGH! COUGH! COUGH!" Miles started coughing again, this time so hard it sounded like he was about to hack up a lung.
