World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 340: Return Home
Leon didn’t dwell much on it, though. He simply picked up the broken parts of the spear and returned to the others.
Seeing the broken pieces of the black spear and his dejected expression, Selene struggled to hold back a laugh.
"Pfft—oh, sorry."
She quickly covered her lips with a fist, though her shoulders still shook.
"It was a good weapon," She said, managing to sound serious.
Leon shot her an exasperated look and said, "Let’s go. We need to get back to Brooklyn today."
Everyone quickly boarded the buses, and they continued on their way. With the threat of the parasite gone, they didn’t need to skirt around the edges of the island anymore. They drove through it, eventually arriving at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge by evening.
The bridge had been cleared when they came through from Bayonne, but it now had a few zombies on it again.
They had probably migrated from Brooklyn, climbing the bridge without any sense of purpose.
Leon personally skewered them with shadow spears, allowing the vehicles to move freely.
By the time they got to Marine Park, it was already nighttime. Leon wanted to stop the journey and wait till the next morning, but knowing that Eternal Night City wasn’t that far ahead, he changed his mind.
"Keep going and turn on the lights. I’ll handle anything that comes for us."
Just as he expected, several strong Tier One mutated beasts and a few Tier Two ones came after the moving vehicles. Leon killed them all using Selene’s sword.
After all, she had been gloating when his own weapon got destroyed. This slowed their journey a little, and by the time they got to the city, it was almost midnight.
The buses were stopped at the gates by strong Tier One Evolvers on guard duty. When Leon alighted, they immediately recognized him.
"City Lord?!"
The City Lord and the main officials had been gone for over a month now. Having them suddenly return in the middle of the night was startling.
Leon nodded at them as they opened the gates, then stepped back into the bus. With the news spreading, they no longer had to face obstacles like closed gates.
They quickly arrived at the Core Ring of the city, and the buses were parked at a garage prepared for them.
Leon got down first, followed by the others and the warriors of the Titanbreaker Legion. They had gone safely, and had returned safely with none of them dead.
They were quickly welcomed by Marie, Nicolas, Richard, and the two teachers from the Williamsburg school.
Leon frowned, looking at Marie’s left arm wrapped in a bandage and hanging limply by her side. He didn’t ask why she was injured. He simply gave Fel a look, and she understood.
The brown-haired lady stepped forward and placed her hands on Marie’s injured arm.
"Hold still."
Marie nodded, watching as a soft green light covered her arm. The injuries healed rapidly, as she could feel her broken bones being reattached and torn tissues and muscles joined together again.
A smile appeared on her face, and she hugged Fel after being fully healed. "Thank you, Fel."
The younger lady smiled and shook her head. "I’m glad you’re okay."
Marie finally turned back to Leon, momentarily ignoring the others.
"Welcome back, Boss."
He managed a smile and ruffled her hair. "It’s good to see you again."
Marie pursed her lips but didn’t shake his hand away.
"DADDY!"
Leon flinched from the sound, then stumbled back when something small and petite slammed into him. Thankfully, he was very good at balancing himself.
"Hey... Nora," He said with a groan, hugging the little girl that clung to him like a koala.
"Wuu... I missed you so much, Daddy!"
"Haha..." Leon laughed lightly. "I missed you too."
Smiling, Marie said, "Let’s go inside. It seems improper to talk outside at this time."
Leon nodded and turned to the Titanbreaker Legion. "You can all go reunite with your family, friends, and loved ones. Take your time to rest properly."
"YES, COMMANDER!"
They chorused, making his ears hurt again. Leon scowled, but didn’t complain. He simply turned to the others. "Let’s go."
Miguel and Richard clapped their hands, the sound loud in the quiet night. Then, they bumped shoulders with each other.
Reymond gave them a look of suspicion. "Are you guys cultists or something?"
Miguel and Richard laughed, ignoring him as they talked in hushed whispers. After all, Miguel had so many things to tell his close friend, especially about a specific muscle mommy.
They quickly got back into the City Lord’s Villa and settled in the living room. The two teachers and Nicolas merely greeted Leon and the others before withdrawing. After all, they weren’t part of the initial group.
While the maids immediately worked to serve everyone with refreshing drinks, they sat down and spoke to one another.
"Daddy! Tell me about where you went to. Was it fun or dangerous?"
Nora asked, sitting on Leon’s lap like she owned the seat.
Feeling someone’s glare on the child, Leon’s smile turned stiff.
"Ah, yes... it was fun. But also very dangerous. And... couldn’t find my sister."
The mood quickly soured, and Marie, Richard, and Nora finally noticed that there were no additions to their group.
"You couldn’t find her?" Marie asked, her voice filled with concern.
Leon nodded. "Yeah. Apparently, she left the Newark Camp earlier, and I have no idea where she went to. But I still believe that she’s alive. So, I’ll eventually find her. Probably tomorrow. Who knows?"
Knowing that he was trying to lighten the atmosphere, the others cast away their gloom and nodded.
"Yeah, nothing is impossible." Richard said, smacking his lips.
Shaking his head, Leon said to Nora, "I’ll tell you how our journey went privately. Instead, I want to know what happened since I left."
His gaze fell on Marie, demanding answers.
The young woman smiled weakly. "Well, long story short, that camp wants us to surrender and hand over the city to them. Otherwise, they’ll report us to the government."
