World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 337: What Creature?
Seated in the bus, Reymond and the others waited patiently for Gwen to tell them to open their eyes.
They didn’t know what she had seen, but it had to be pretty dangerous if it required them closing their eyes.
Perhaps it was a creature who could attack the soul through the eyes?
Suddenly, he heard a sound that made him shudder.
Eaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
It sounded like a child, writhing in pain if being burnt alive. He tensed, wanting to open his eyes. However, he controlled himself.
Even though that cry stirred a protective urge within him, he knew it was not a child. It was definitely a weird creature.
The scream lasted for a few seconds, then went silent. Everyone remained quiet with their eyes closed.
It was a little odd for there to be no one who opened their eyes, but strangely, there were none.
After a full minute, Gwen’s exhausted voice reached them through the comms.
"You can all open your eyes. Let’s keep moving."
Everyone slowly opened their eyes and looked around. Other than the wrecked cars and corpses of zombies that had been there, there was nothing else.
However, none of them was foolish enough to think nothing had transpired. Gwen had definitely killed something.
With the lead bus moving, the others quickly followed. They quickly arrived on Staten Island, then began moving along the edges, not daring to drive through it.
Gwen knew the abomination stayed at the center of the island, and she had no hopes of defeating it. However, as they moved along the edges of the island, they could hear sounds of battle reverberating from the center of the island.
It wasn’t faint, as it reached them clearly.
Gwen frowned. ’Some people are fighting that thing?’
She shook her head and said to the driver. "Keep driving. Even if someone is fighting it, it’s not our concern. We’re getting out of here."
The man nodded, keeping to the lane.
Though a few people tried seeing beyond the cluster of buildings, everyone reined in their curiosity.
At least they did until something hit them.
A cold wind washed over the convoy, carrying a faint, familiar scent. Gwen’s nose twitched.
’Selene...?’
She turned to look toward the battlefield, but failed to see anything.
’Could it really be her...?’
Torn and conflicted, she said to the driver, "Stop the bus and wait for me."
The man glanced at her, shocked. Wasn’t she the one who had just said they were getting out of here? Why was she going back on her words now?
Still, he didn’t question her and simply did as he was told.
Gwen opened the door and came down, catching Reymond and the others alighting from the other buses too.
Inhaling a breath of cold air, she shivered. "You think so too?"
Reymond turned to her and nodded. "Yeah. That’s unmistakably Selene’s scent. And this cold feels like her blizzard skill."
Miguel folded his arms. "Then she must be fighting that abomination. Boss is probably with her too."
Hearing what he said, Cassie stirred. Her blue eyes locked on him through the mask, and she asked in a weary voice. "Really...?"
Miguel stiffened. "Uh... I’m not sure. Just saying."
Gwen inhaled the cold again and said, "Let’s go confirm with our own eyes."
The others nodded, agreeing with her.
"Miguel, you stay behind just in case. Fel too."
The blonde guy wanted to argue, but then fell silent. He understood that the Titanbreaker Legion couldn’t be left alone.
"Alright. Off y’all go!"
He said, waving then off.
Gwen, Reymond, and Cassie quickly rushed into the barren city, carefully moving and making their way to the center. As they got closer, the cold intensified until they began running across literal ice.
The floor was covered in it, and so were the buildings around them.
"This has to be her...!" Reymond said, gritting his teeth as he endured the cold and ran.
Finally, they arrived at a place where they could spectate the battlefield. Pausing at the edge of a large crater, they stared down in shock.
......
Meanwhile, half an hour earlier...
While they were preparing to leave Bayonne, a spatial crack opened up right above the river.
Leon and Selene emerged from it, with Rune sitting on his head. They paused for a moment, then fell.
"What the hell?!" Leon screamed, indignant.
With a violent splash of water, they sank into the river. Selene’s expression turned cold, and she quickly commanded the water around them to bring them to the surface.
After all, she didn’t want to choke or drown in such a hilarious way. Thanks to her second Class, she managed to bring them all to the shore.
Leon immediately coughed out a lot of water, as he had mistakenly swallowed while they drowned. Rune was also soaked, quivering from head to toe.
Selene quickly grabbed it and took out a cloth from her storage ring, wiping its fur with it. Leon stood up and looked around.
"Where are we? We’re not outside America, right?"
He quickly found a recognizable landmark, his eyes wide. "Oh... looks like we’re on Staten Island."
Selene turned to him, following his gaze to the Bayonne Bridge in the distance.
"Hm? Staten Island...do you want to deal with that thing now?"
Leon paused, thinking. "Well, since we’re here, let’s handle it before we go meet up with the others."
Nodding, Selene checked her soaked clothes and cursed. "So this is how Earth welcomes me. What an asshole."
Leon winced. "At least don’t use crude words."
A few minutes later, they left the shore and walked over to the center of the island.
Meanwhile, the river writhed behind them, and something surfaced. Multiple pairs of eyes emerged to stare at their backs, then retreated into the river with an odd whimper.
Leon and Selene remained unaware, and after three minutes, they finally reached the place where the abomination dwelled.
Seeing that mass of flesh again, Leon wasn’t intimidated in the slightest. After all, it was a step below his own creation back on the alien planet.
He smiled.
"Well, hello there, parasite. We have come to kill you."
