World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 336: Crossing To Bayonne
The next morning, everyone had gathered together.
Gwen leaned against a bus, her arms folded as she stared at the sky from underneath the blindfold.
Strangely, she found it hard to smile. After all, worry for Leon and Selene still plagued her mind. She didn’t know where they went, but it must be far away and dangerous.
’They can’t be dead... right?’
Shaking her head she focused on the others. Miguel and Reymond stood next to each other, with Fel maintaining a safe distance from the brown-haired guy. Cassie stood beside her, her face covered by a mask that only revealed her two eyes.
’This girl...’
Gwen shook her head.
Bliss, Mark, and the rest of Cassie’s family had come to see them off. Cassie’s family were reluctant to let her go. In fact, her brother had thrown a tantrum the other night.
However, he was eventually silenced by Mark. The middle-aged man knew that he couldn’t restrict his daughter. While he wholeheartedly wanted to keep her safe, he wasn’t strong enough.
She was stronger than him, after all. So what use was it to keep her under his protection?
He sighed, rubbing his eyes. "Cassie. Take care of yourself and reach out to us occasionally. Leader Bliss has promised to ensure we can contact each other any time."
Cassie turned to him, her blue eyes carrying a hint of weariness.
"Thank you, Dad."
Mark smiled. Beside him, his wife also waved at Cassie, tears in her eyes.
Cassie waved back, then joined the rest of her team. Bliss and Arnold spoke with Gwen, their expressions serious.
"Don’t worry. The moment they return, we’ll let you know. Alright?" Bliss said, patting Gwen’s shoulder to reassure her.
The blindfolded lady forced a smile and nodded. "Thanks for the hospitality. Also, stay on alert. Bayonne might be safe, but you never know what’s lurking around."
Bliss grinned. "Worry not, I know better than to be complacent."
Miguel walked up to them, flashing an awkward smile.
"Ah, so... Bliss. Do you have an idea when next we’re all going to see each other?"
The woman turned to him. "Not exactly, but if we find a method to deal with that thing on Staten Island, it’s possible for our camps to meet up frequently."
Hearing that, Miguel’s smile softened. "Alright. It was nice being in your company. Looking forward to fighting side by side again."
Bliss smiled and raised her fist. Miguel did the same, and they bumped fists. Then, he turned around and returned to Reymond’s side.
"Rate that," He said smugly.
Rolling his eyes, Reymond scoffed. "That doesn’t even qualify as a rizz. You should have said something that’d make her blush. You sounded like a battle addict. Tch."
Miguel’s expression sank briefly, then he shot back. "Well, at least it’s something. It’s not like you’ve ever made Selene blush either."
Reymond’s expression stiffened, then darkened. "Don’t mention her. She’s different."
"Sure, sure." Miguel rolled his eyes and turned away.
Reymond didn’t answer. To be honest, he felt angry and frustrated. Why hadn’t Selene told him she was leaving? He had only noticed her disappearance during breakfast, and that was where Gwen had shared the news that Selene had also gone somewhere unknown.
Everyone knew she had followed Leon. They just didn’t know where they had gone.
’Ugh...!’
Feeling betrayed, he gritted his teeth, then sucked in a deep breath.
Gwen separated from Bliss and Arnold, then spoke to the others.
"Start boarding the buses. We’re moving."
The members of the Titanbreaker Legion nodded and began entering the vehicles. Normally, they were only supposed to take direct orders from Leon or Selene, if he was unavailable.
However, with both of the Lord and the Vice Lord being unavailable, the highest in command was Gwen.
She had also gained the permission of Leon to lead the Titanbreaker Legion as she wished. At least until he returned.
They all got into the buses, closing the doors behind them. Bliss, Arnold, and Cassie’s family watched them leave, then returned into their camp.
Bliss’s expression became serious. "Arnold, keep our inspection high. I have a feeling that the Newark Camp would want to come after us."
The former soldier blinked in surprise. "Isn’t the Jersey zombie horde between us? They’ll have to go through them to reach us."
Bliss nodded. "Yes. But we can never be too cautious."
Meanwhile, the seven buses rolled through the streets of Bayonne, making their way back to the bridge they had crossed about a month ago.
The zombies in Bayonne were few, so their journey was relatively smooth. They didn’t need to send people down to kill many creatures or clear their path while moving.
Gwen did all that with her telekinesis ability.
Shaking her head, she glanced at the driver and asked, "For how long have you known how to drive?"
The man, one of the members of the Titanbreaker Legion, laughed and answered.
"Since my mother got a car. She trained me to drive too, and I eventually had a family and bought one for myself. So I’ve been driving for about 20 years now."
Gwen nodded and turned away. "When we’re crossing the bridge, don’t look into the water."
The man blinked. "What? Why? I’m sure no aquatic beast can make me lose control of the bus while driving. "
"Just listen to me. Will you?"
Gwen shot back, her voice lacking its usual warmth. The man immediately gulped and fell silent.
"I understand."
Gwen sighed and shook her head. She had just taken a quick glance at the man’s fate, and what she saw left her uneasy.
Picking up the radio before her, she passed the same order to everyone in the other buses.
"Whenever I say it, everyone should close their eyes. Not a single person should have their eyes open. Or we’re all going to die. Most of us, at least."
She received positive responses, as they all knew she wasn’t the type to make stupid jokes.
When they finally got to the bridge, the driver slowed the bus slightly, his gaze fixed only on the bridge. The other buses behind him slowed too.
They continued driving, with no one turning to look at the river by their sides. Sensing the water rippling, Gwen immediately took the radio and ordered.
"Eyes closed. Now."
No one disobeyed, and they all closed their eyes. Gwen sighed in relief, then got down from the bus. Standing by the bridge, she saw several eyes looking back at her.
She felt a little unnerved, but not scared or terrified. She simply reached for her blindfold, then pulled it down.
