Chapter 501: Chapter 362: A Star Mage Full of Surprises
At least for his subordinates, it had many uses.
Just because he didn’t need it didn’t mean his subordinates wouldn’t.
Take Smith, for example. With the blessing of the Starry Sky Law, he would leap from being a strong Tier Four to a top-tier Tier Four!
The boost to his combat power would be quite significant.
However, this was all research for later. After all, it was just a hypothesis for now. If the Starry Sky Law couldn’t be bound to the growth of the Solomon Kingdom, then its value was actually limited.
After putting away the Starry Sky Law, Isaac perceived the resource-type Little World. His brow twitched slightly. ’Not bad.’ It was a common mineral-type resource world, containing 43% iron ore, 12% Low Tier Magic Metal, 6% gold, and about 3% High-Level Magic Metal—Norris Steel.
It was a precious metal used in crafting High-level Demonic Puppets, quite valuable indeed.
Its total area was also quite substantial, over 10,000 square kilometers, about the size of a small island. The only unknown was its regeneration rate.
If its base regeneration rate was high, subsequent modification and development would proceed quite smoothly, allowing him to trade for a considerable amount of materials to build his Floating City.
He briefly examined the floating island within the Little World, and a rough plan for its modification surfaced in his mind. Shaking his head, Isaac shifted his focus away. ’Another mid-to-long-term investment.’
A Little World of this scale was relatively small, so it couldn’t be mined from the outset. Doing so would disrupt its delicate balance and lead to its swift demise. Such a shortsighted approach—like draining a pond to catch all the fish—was too crude. Even a reckless Knight wouldn’t do it, and naturally, neither would Isaac.
The Star Mage’s abilities, however, brought Isaac a pleasant surprise. The first one he tested was the ability to summon a Star Beast.
Depending on an individual’s Shadow of the Star God, the summoned Star Beast would differ. Because of this, one could roughly deduce the form of the Shadow of the Star God from the Star Beast’s appearance.
Unfortunately, a Star Mage’s Shadow of the Star God wasn’t a manifestation of one’s inner desires. It was only related to the Power of the Star God one absorbed. Therefore, this fact wasn’t particularly useful; it was just something Isaac had discovered in the course of his research on the Shadow of the Star God.
But back to the matter at hand. Isaac extended his right hand, palm facing outward. He held his index and middle fingers together, and his ring and little fingers together.
"Star Beast: Summoning!"
With a thought, Magic Power began to converge.
Wisps of Magic Power surged from Isaac’s body, combining and rapidly weaving together with the Magic Power from the outside world. About half an hour later, they had formed into a Star Beast that resembled a perfect sphere!
This Star Beast was spherical, roughly three meters in diameter, and made entirely of yellowish-brown rock. It had no facial features or limbs. Its surface was pitted and uneven, and a ring of rubble orbited its body as it floated silently in the air.
It resembled a miniature planet.
Although small, the Magic Power fluctuations it emitted were quite considerable—Tier Four Middle, which was consistent with Isaac’s current Magic Level.
By the standards for Star Beasts in this world, it was considered excellent.
Most Star Beasts summoned by Star Mages were one to two minor ranks weaker than the Star Mage themselves. One rank weaker was normal; two was considered poor.
A Star Beast that was a minor rank higher was considered exceptionally excellent.
However, this was rare. A Star Beast’s power would almost never exceed the Star Mage’s by a full Tier, so no one deliberately sought out an overly powerful Star Beast.
Basically, one on par with their own level was sufficient.
As for Isaac...
He was even less picky. Just having one was enough. After all, even if it were Tier Four, Third Rank, it wouldn’t make much difference to him—it still couldn’t beat a Tier Five. What truly intrigued him was the nature of this Creation, the Star Beast.
From an outsider’s perspective, this ’thing’ was, by all accounts, merely an energy projection, not a true living creature.
However, aside from the lengthy first Summoning, the casting time could be compressed to under a second once proficient!
The Casting time dropped from half an hour to under a second!
The difference was staggering!
Furthermore, Star Beasts displayed emotions just like normal creatures, yet they possessed no self-awareness or soul. It all seemed to be instinctual reactions.
At the same time, it was possible, through certain methods, to preserve the Star Beast of a deceased Star Mage and apply techniques to control and command it. A Star Beast in this state, however, was the complete opposite.
It had a physical body, signs of life, self-awareness, and a soul, but it lacked one thing—emotions.
Moreover, it could even increase its own power, and while it was very difficult, it was indeed possible.
For example, a Tier Four Star Beast slumbered beneath the Royal Capital, nurtured over generations by the people of the Kingdom.
What was even more mystifying was that whether it was an energy-form Star Beast or a flesh-and-blood one, despite being such a special Existence, all of his analyses showed them to be completely normal.
For the energy-form Star Beast, all data indicated that it was simply an energy projection with no trace of life.
As for the corporeal Star Beast, all data showed it to be what was known as a "Three-No" Star Beast: a creature with signs of life, but no emotional changes.
Everything was normal, which was, in itself, the greatest abnormality.
This was one of the reasons Isaac’s research into Star Mages began with the Shadow of the Star God. Compared to the Star Beast, the Shadow of the Star God was far more "normal."
That was why Isaac had always wanted to know what kind of Star Beast he himself would summon.
