Chapter 500: Chapter 362: The Endlessly Surprising Star Mage
How to develop the Witch Bloodline was a significant problem for Isaac. He had far too little data on hand, so he needed to plan ahead. Besides, while he still had time, it would be more convenient to gather data from Angel.
However, Isaac estimated that he would have to postpone the official research for a while. At the very least, he had to wait for the Witch Country’s approval to come through.
That’s right—this type of research also required the Witch Country’s approval. Over the years, the rules had been refined to the point where there were no loopholes left to exploit.
Of course, even if there were, Isaac wouldn’t try to exploit them. He wasn’t that foolish.
...
Upon returning to his base, Isaac didn’t dive headfirst into research. Instead, he flipped his right hand over, and a primarily black Energy Ball dotted with faint starlight appeared in his palm—the Starry Sky Law!
Gazing at the Starry Sky Law in his hand, Isaac’s eyes narrowed slightly. ’This thing...’
Although it was the gift of a Heroic achievement, it was, in itself, pure Law Magic—not something else merely masquerading as a Law. It was just a bit special, relatively speaking.
First, the only users of the Starry Sky Law were Isaac and those he designated. Second, the Starry Sky Law could be upgraded just like other Laws by weaving together the collective will of all living beings and Magic Power.
The difference, however, lay in the fact that the "living beings" defined by the Starry Sky Law were, comparatively speaking, loosely defined.
Any life living within or beneath the starry sky fell under its domain.
Moreover, the Law’s content had few restrictions; it was simply the primal Dark Forest Law...
Its functions were also extremely practical: it could weaken enemies while strengthening oneself, and it could directly summon entities from the starry sky to attack, such as Star Beasts, meteorites, planets, and even black holes...
If you have enough Magic Power, that is.
Wide-ranging, with few restrictions, and highly practical!
To be honest, if Isaac hadn’t confirmed that, structurally speaking, this thing was undeniably a Law, he would have suspected it was a cheat program disguised as one...
But it truly was a Law, and theoretically, one that could be woven through normal means.
However, that was only in theory. Weaving a Law has one of the most basic rules—one must possess near-absolute dominion over most of the Concepts it constrains!
This one rule alone doomed something like the Starry Sky Law to exist only in theory. The cosmos is too vast, its scope too broad. The weak cannot achieve such dominion, and the strong have no need for this Law—they themselves are the Law!
But the gift of a Heroic achievement was different. As long as it was theoretically possible, the gift could manifest it into reality for you.
’A perfectly reasonable power.’
Isaac toyed with the Starry Sky Law for a moment, then sighed and put it away.
’It’s a good item, to be sure.’
It had strong functionality, decent stats, and no shortage of potential. Moreover, it required no additional cultivation, as it had already reached the highest Level: the Golden Law, also known as the Infinite Law. Although a Law at this tier could no longer advance, its power had no limit and could be increased almost infinitely.
The Starry Sky Law was at this stage. One just had to continuously infuse it with the collective will of living beings and Magic Power. And because its rules were just the primitive Dark Forest Law and survival of the fittest—tantamount to having no rules at all—one could simply establish dominion and use the collective will to enhance the Law’s power. Simple and efficient.
But...
It came back to the old saying: an item’s usefulness isn’t just about how good it is, but whether it’s a good fit.
The Starry Sky Law was impressive, but to be frank, Isaac already had many methods at his disposal that were just as good, if not better. For him now, suitability was more important than raw power.
Of course, if something was so powerful its stats were off the charts, that would be a different story.
If it were powerful enough for Isaac to crush a Deity as easily as an ant, then Isaac would admit the thing had a tiny bit of use.
’Just a tiny bit!’
But the current Starry Sky Law was certainly not capable of that. Furthermore, increasing its power required expanding his own forces, and while enhancing the Starry Sky Law only required simple dominion, things were never that simple.
Another major reason Law Magic had faded from the Wizarding stage was that the power a Law granted was not Eternal!
This power is tied to the faction under one’s rule. Short-term fluctuations in territory, population, or even the approval rating of the Law won’t affect its power, but that’s only true in the short term. Over a long period, the Law’s power will decline, and may even collapse entirely!
Of course, Isaac’s Starry Sky Law was the gift of a Heroic achievement. Not only was it free from the risk of collapse, but its power also had a guaranteed baseline of Tier Four. However, any power gained beyond that would be subject to such effects.
This was unacceptable to Isaac.
He might seem like he was going for a Summoning build, but in reality, he was a purist at heart. He was a firm believer that true power must belong to oneself—and a near-absolute power at that!
He wanted nothing to do with any method that allowed external factors to affect his own power.
Laws were no exception.
Besides, managing a faction was a hassle. He would rather spend that energy conducting a few more experiments.
The Starry Sky Law...
’Maybe I can try selling this thing later... no, I should lease it to my older brother. He’s developing the Solomon Kingdom, and it just so happens that if I can use the Solomon Kingdom to increase the Starry Sky Law’s power, then it might be of some use after all.’
