Chapter 694: Chapter 80: Attack From the Future
Outside the Nightmare World fragment leading to the Kronos plane, two figures hovered in the void.
One was Oubrian, the Domain Master of the Shaping Domain.
He wore a dark magic robe embroidered with the silver-gray, circular sigil of the Shaping Domain.
His features were stern, with a high brow and deep-set eyes.
Opposite him stood a young man in a deep purple magic robe, his eyes a brilliant emerald green.
He was Vito Douglas, a member of the Douglas Clan from the Clock Tower.
Oubrian gazed at the passage to the Kronos plane. "Douglas of the Clock Tower, the infighting within your clan is as messy as ever."
Vito said coolly, "This isn’t infighting. It’s a trial. Once Cheris passes it, she will naturally receive everything she is due."
A flicker of mockery crossed Oubrian’s gray-black eyes. "A trial? And how many have died in these ’trials’ of the Douglas Clan?"
Vito didn’t respond.
His voice was calm and steady. "On the contrary, after you lost the Dragon Witch’s legacy, your clan maintained a placid internal atmosphere, which caused it to plummet. You’ve been unable to solve the mystery of your own bloodline, and even you, a Domain Master, are nothing more than a Radiant Sun Wizard."
At these words, a flicker of displeasure crossed Oubrian’s face.
The decline of the Shaping Domain was, of course, inextricably linked to the Dragon Witch’s departure.
But the Douglas Clan’s prosperity had absolutely nothing to do with any ’trial.’
’That was all bullshit.’
The real reason was that during the Dark Ages, when the gaze of the Ancestor of Light fell upon the world, the Douglas Clan backed the right side.
They chose to stand with the Wizard Ancestor.
That was what cemented their position.
Oubrian suppressed his annoyance, a smirk returning to his lips. "Right back at you. Didn’t the Douglas Clan also lose the legacy of the Mechanical Witch?"
Vito’s expression faltered.
The loss of the Mechanical Witch’s legacy was a wound that never healed for the Douglas Clan.
It was no ordinary legacy.
She was a Witch who had controlled the world.
A Witch who shaped the very first Laws of the Wizard World, a being whose power was second only to the Wizard Ancestor.
Without the Mechanical Witch, even with Origin Wizards in their ranks, the Douglas Clan could never claim a seat on the Imperial High Council.
Oubrian had said it deliberately to provoke him.
Vito’s expression quickly returned to one of calm. "Doesn’t this just prove our clan’s decisions were correct? Otherwise, after losing a Witch’s legacy, we would have plummeted to the bottom."
Oubrian’s smile froze on his face.
Vito continued, "However, the Land of the Past should still hold the Witch’s legacy. Not just hers, but the legacies of many Origin Wizards. The only question is... where exactly is the Land of the Past?"
Oubrian snorted. "It’s called the Land of the Past. Naturally, it resides in the past."
Vito said, "Do you think we at the Clock Tower are unaware of such simple logic?"
"What we need to know—what’s most important—is in which fragment of the past does it lie?"
Oubrian said, "Perhaps only the King of Wizards would know. He controls Law and the Magic Net, so he should be aware of the destination of every soul that crosses over."
"And it’s said that in times past, beings from the Land of the Past have come to the future."
"But unfortunately, all records of these events were erased by an unknown power."
At this, Oubrian shot Vito a meaningful glance. "That was likely the work of someone from the High Council. A pity... that Witch’s legacy..."
Vito could no longer maintain his composure. "Enough," he said, displeased. "Since Cheris is unwilling to accept our good intentions, we cannot simply ignore her."
"The Kronos world trying to escape the shackles of the Nightmare World? How could that be possible?"
He raised his right hand, palm open. A deep purple radiance shot from it, flying silently toward the Nightmare World fragment like an arrow loosed from a bow.
The radiance sank into the fragment and vanished, as if nothing had happened.
But a satisfied expression appeared on Vito’s face.
Oubrian stopped his verbal sparring with Vito.
He raised his left hand and strummed his fingers lightly through the air. An invisible ripple spread from his fingertips, passing through the boundary of the Nightmare World fragment and seeping into the Kronos plane.
His gray-black pupils reflected the scene within the Kronos plane: villages in flames, cemeteries being destroyed, and Warriors being hunted down.
Oubrian said, "Our people are doing a fine job preventing the Kronos plane from breaking away. Their actions have been effective. So far, all attempts to awaken their ancestral connections have failed."
Vito nodded without a word.
Oubrian’s fingers strummed again, and the invisible ripple changed direction.
His brow suddenly furrowed. "Hm... there’s an unexpected power at play."
"What kind of power?" Vito asked.
Oubrian tried to strum his left hand again, but a pure white light laced with crimson blocked his attempt.
Oubrian pulled back his hand. "So, it’s Cheris’s power. She’s inside the Kronos plane. Her subordinates are responsible for some of the destruction of those cemeteries."
Vito raised an eyebrow. "Cheris has capable people under her command, aside from herself?"
He paused, then shook his head. "Never mind. It’s of no consequence. It won’t affect the outcome."
...
The Kronos Plane.
「Ten minutes earlier.」
This was a valley situated between two hills.
In the center of the valley was a half-excavated cemetery.
