Chapter 693 - 80: Attack from the Future
Chapter 693: Chapter 80: Attack from the Future
Meanwhile, Murphy was flying all over, digging up Kronos’s roots wherever he went.
Back in the great hall, the High Priest raised his hand again. A silvery-white light surged from his palm, coiling around Leander’s body.
Then, the light dissipated.
Leander’s breathing grew ragged. "High Priest?"
The High Priest’s brow furrowed slightly. "It’s fine. Let’s try the next one."
He raised his hand again, and the silvery-white light surged forth once more, brighter, denser, and more frantic than before.
The light was like a crazed spider, frantically weaving a web on Leander’s chest. Thread by thread, it was drawn from his very bloodline, weaving a vast, silvery-white net of light above his body.
The net of light flickered and trembled, then dissipated once more.
Leander watched the motes of light drift down and asked cautiously, "High Priest, is it still going to work?"
The High Priest did not speak.
He raised his hand for the fourth time.
But the light shattered again.
The High Priest’s voice was calm. "It’s nothing. Next."
Leander didn’t dare speak anymore.
The fifth time.
The sixth time.
Leander finally couldn’t take it anymore. His voice held a trace of caution and hesitation. "High Priest, maybe... we should just stop?"
The High Priest turned his head to look at him.
The gentle smile was still on his face. "We can’t just stop."
He raised his hand.
Light surged forth.
It dissipated.
He raised his hand again.
Light surged forth.
And again, it dissipated.
He raised his hand again.
Light surged forth.
This time, it did not dissipate.
The net was formed. The silvery-white light flowed steadily through the hall like a quiet river.
One end of the net connected to Leander’s chest, while the other extended into the void toward some unseen point.
And then—
SNAP!
SNAP! SNAP! SNAP!
The thread connected to the void snapped.
Like an overtightened string, it snapped in the middle, the two ends recoiling.
Leander watched the broken thread slowly dissipate in the air, his voice hoarse. "High Priest, wha—"
The High Priest withdrew his hand. "I’m not continuing."
Leander was stunned. "Why?"
The High Priest looked at him. "Because you no longer have any ancestors to connect with."
A roar filled Leander’s mind, as if something had exploded inside it.
"Those people from the Wizard World... they went that far?"
The High Priest didn’t answer.
The gentle smile was still on his face, but a flash of anger crossed his light gray eyes.
Leander’s fists clenched, his chest heaving violently.
"High Priest, what should I do now? I can’t have you awaken my connection with my ancestors like the others."
The High Priest fell silent for a moment before speaking, his voice carrying a soothing power. "You should wait here for now. Someone else will be arriving shortly. You can greet them and explain the situation. I will just help them awaken their connections..."
The High Priest’s gaze suddenly shifted to one side of the hall. "They’re here..."
Before the words had left his mouth, the air on one side of the hall began to distort, and a deep, dark portal appeared.
The edges of the portal shimmered with a silvery-white light.
Another High Priest in a White Robe stepped out.
A young woman followed behind him.
She looked to be about seventeen or eighteen. She wasn’t tall, but her back was held perfectly straight.
Her short, dark brown hair was slightly messy, revealing a high forehead and a pair of gray-blue eyes. Her face bore fresh scars.
She wore a short, grayish-white robe, its hem stained with specks of mud and dried blood. A short sword hung from her belt.
Leander recognized her and blurted out, "Vera Bella!"
The young woman turned her head. Seeing Leander, a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes, which then softened into a smile. "Leander? What are you doing here?"
Leander walked over and stood before her.
He remembered them defending the walls of a small city, fighting for seven days and seven nights.
The monsters summoned by the Wizards had been so ferocious.
But even when they had fought until only a handful of them remained, nearly failing to hold on for reinforcements, Vera Bella had never given up.
"I knew it. I wasn’t wrong about you." Leander’s voice was filled with irrepressible excitement. "You truly are one of those willing to sacrifice everything for our world."
Vera Bella paused for a moment, then smiled.
On her scarred face, her smile was as bright as the spring Sun. "So what’s going on?"
Leander took a deep breath and repeated what the High Priest had told him.
Vera Bella listened quietly, the light in her eyes flickering like two burning Suns.
Leander finished his explanation.
Vera Bella said, "I will protect our world."
While they spoke, the two High Priests had come together.
Then, their bodies began to merge.
Like two drops of water merging into the ocean, the two High Priests became one.
Leander stepped aside, making way for Vera Bella.
The High Priest walked up to her, raised his hand, and pointed his palm toward her chest.
Silvery-white light surged from his palm in fine threads, coiling around Vera Bella’s body.
Standing to one side, Leander held his breath.
Vera Bella’s eyes were open, her expression having returned to a state of calm after her earlier excitement.
The High Priest held his hand steady, a continuous stream of silvery-white light flowing from his palm.
Then, the light dissipated all the same.
It was no different from before.
...
「Nightmare World」
A pallid, gray-white light enveloped everything.
