Chapter 1453: Chapter 1453: Faking Illness and Pretending to Be Pitiful

Matthew Saxon maintained a stiff expression as he stared at her for a while, gritted his teeth, and fiercely said, "Can you keep your word?"

Scarlett Yates nodded, "I can. If you can do it, I can too."

"Alright, I promise you." Matthew Saxon looked as if he had made a great sacrifice, with a determined expression.

No matter what, the priority was to trick her into coming back first.

His willingness to nod and agree meant he counted on Scarlett Yates being all talk and softness at heart; it was unlikely she’d truly let him do such a thing.

That became apparent when, just as he mentioned wanting ice water, she immediately frowned.

She was still concerned about his health, so how could she really bear to let him stand outside all night in sub-zero temperatures without clothes?

"Sir, your ice water." The waiter brought over the ice water he had just ordered.

By now, the fury in Matthew Saxon’s heart had long been suppressed.

But to ensure Scarlett Yates would definitely follow him back, he had to continue acting for a while.

Matthew Saxon took the glass of water, tilted his head, and drank two gulps.

The water was truly ice-cold; the waiter was sincere and added two-thirds ice as promised.

After a sip of water, the cold penetrated his heart, and without having to pretend much, his face paled considerably.

After drinking the ice water, he covered his mouth and began to cough.

With each cough, Scarlett Yates’ brow furrowed further.

When Matthew Saxon continued coughing for almost a minute, Scarlett Yates couldn’t sit still any longer, slapped her hand on the table, and furiously yelled at him, "Matthew Saxon, are you really treating your body so carelessly? You just came out of the hospital’s emergency room, and you don’t even take care. Your face is as white as a ghost and you still drink ice water. If you keep coughing like this, it seriously affects my appetite, don’t you know?"

After quietly shouting, without waiting for Matthew Saxon to speak, she glared at him angrily and scolded, "You’re deliberately not letting me eat properly. I tell you, either you immediately return to the hospital for another examination, and let them prescribe you some medication, or I’ll find myself a place to eat. I don’t want to hear someone coughing beside me while I eat."

Matthew Saxon finished coughing, raised his pale and weary face, and his voice had turned weak, "Scarlett, if you promise to come back with me, I’ll go to the hospital for a check-up."

"You’re blackmailing me?" Scarlett Yates was so mad she laughed, "Matthew Saxon, your body is your own, if you don’t care, do you think I’ll care? Whether you go to the hospital or not is your business, what’s it got to do with me."

Matthew Saxon touched his chest, and his brow furrowed, as if his heart had suddenly throbbed painfully, "Scarlett, I suddenly feel unwell again. I may not be able to go alone; will you accompany me?"

When he said this, coupled with his bloodless face, it was very convincing.

Plus, Knox Simmons had previously said he suddenly just collapsed on the ground, so it was already a sudden situation, and now suddenly feeling unwell again wasn’t impossible.

She thought about how he just drank a glass of ice water and worried it might be caused by that.

Yet she was still half-skeptical as her brow furrowed, her doubtful gaze fell on his face for a few seconds, uncertainly asking, "Are you really unwell?"

Matthew Saxon, clutching his chest, "weakly" nodded, "This spot suddenly feels really painful, like being stabbed by a knife."
