When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase
Chapter 1356: Rare Assertiveness
Mr. Xiao’s anger reached its peak. Xiao Rou paused in her steps, but the next second, decisively ran out.
"Rourou, Rourou."
Mrs. Xiao called out anxiously, wanting to chase after her, but ended up tripping over the doorstep and nearly falling. Mr. Xiao quickly held onto her.
"You, arguing with her. Rourou might be unhappy at the company. Don’t you know our daughter? If there wasn’t a reason, why would she resign?"
Mrs. Xiao rarely showed such toughness, while Mr. Xiao’s anger hadn’t subsided: "What reason could there be? That girl hasn’t learned her lesson."
Mr. Xiao spoke while helping Mrs. Xiao into the house, opening the safflower oil he had just gotten from a colleague downstairs: "Come, let me apply some medicine for you."
Xiao Rou was extremely angry and didn’t notice the bump on Mrs. Xiao’s forehead, which couldn’t possibly have been caused by a punch. However, it was indeed related to Mr. Xiao. He vented his anger outside, punching the wall, and as a result, a picture frame hanging on the wall fell off due to the vibrations, hitting Mrs. Xiao’s forehead squarely. Thankfully it was a small frame, or the consequences might have been worse.
Mr. Xiao applied the safflower oil for Mrs. Xiao, who was still muttering: "It’s so late, let’s hope the child doesn’t get into any trouble."
"What trouble could she get into? At most, she’ll just stay in the neighborhood."
It’s not that Mr. Xiao was careless, but they both knew Xiao Rou’s personality. Quiet, gentle, a bit timid. She had never made any drastic rebellion, even if she ran out, she would at most stay in the neighborhood.
That’s what Mr. Xiao thought, and Mrs. Xiao more or less agreed. After all, it’s their daughter, they knew her well.
However, life is often full of surprises. Given Xiao Rou’s usual demeanor, she would indeed just stay in the neighborhood. But today, Xiao Rou was stuck in a stubborn mindset. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have argued with Mr. Xiao like that.
Xiao Rou ran outside with her head down, not knowing how far she ran. When she eventually couldn’t run any more and stopped, she realized she was already on the main road.
By now, it was very dark, but the time wasn’t particularly late. There were quite a few pedestrians on the street.
Xiao Rou’s eyes were still filled with tears, making everything around her seem very blurry.
The once familiar street now appeared incredibly unfamiliar.
She wiped her tears with force, feeling as if the energy driving her had been depleted during this run; her inherently gentle nature surfaced again.
But the resolute decision she made as she dashed out of home wouldn’t allow her to return so quickly. She didn’t feel she was wrong.
She wasn’t impulsively quitting her job; she knew what she wanted to do and didn’t want everything to go according to her parents’ wishes. That’s their life, not hers.
This was a rare moment of firmness for Xiao Rou; she didn’t want to compromise so soon.
Xiao Rou touched her pocket. She had dashed out in such a hurry without taking her bag, now she didn’t have a single penny on her, but fortunately, her phone was in her pocket.
She took out her phone, found Zhou Chengchen’s number, and was about to dial, but heard the shutdown prompt tone, only then remembering, Zhou Chengchen had returned to the United Kingdom today.
Xiao Rou suddenly panicked a little, suddenly unsure of what to do.
How could she be so useless? As soon as her good friend wasn’t around, did she already not know what to do?
A tremendous sense of grievance and self-hatred for being so weak instantly surged in her heart.
