When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase
Chapter 1355: Discord
Xiao Rou stood there, somewhat trembling, Mrs. Xiao felt for her daughter and quickly comforted her softly: "Alright, alright, Rourou, you go inside first."
Xiao Rou nodded and quickly ran back to her room.
The soundproofing of the room wasn’t very good, and given Mr. Xiao’s loud voice, Xiao Rou could hear everything clearly.
She went inside, but now Mr. Xiao vented all his anger on Mrs. Xiao.
Xiao Rou understood well enough; her father was just a little strict and stubborn, but he still loved her and loved this family very much.
Nonetheless, the deeply rooted male chauvinism in older generations was evident in Mr. Xiao; he was a man who strongly believed in the idea of men working outside and women inside the home.
He did care for his wife, but ultimately felt that he should be the one in charge at home.
But with society’s pressures nowadays, Mr. Xiao also understood that both men and women should have their own jobs. This wasn’t a compromise on his beliefs, but a concession to society.
Yet, even amidst such concessions, he still had his own persistence. Early on, when Xiao Rou had just gotten into college, Mr. Xiao wanted her to take the civil service exams.
It wasn’t that the salary of civil servants was particularly high, but because of their stability.
However, Xiao Rou didn’t pass the exam.
Later, when he urged her to take the banking exams, Xiao Rou still didn’t pass.
These two failures made Mr. Xiao quite angry, until later, when Xiao Rou joined the Zhou Family, did Mr. Xiao finally feel satisfied.
In a large corporation like the Zhou Family, he believed that given his daughter’s temperament, it was impossible for her to climb up the ranks, but as long as she worked diligently, even at the bottom, the benefits were very good.
He didn’t want Xiao Rou to be rich and prosperous, but he wanted her to be stable.
Now, however, Xiao Rou had quit her job.
Mr. Xiao was still outside, venting his anger, Xiao Rou could even hear the sound of things being smashed; she didn’t dare go out as she had never dared to defy her father since she was young.
Her timid personality was largely shaped by such family education.
Who knows how long it was before the outside finally quieted down after a loud "bang."
Xiao Rou pressed her lips together, and after a while, Mrs. Xiao came to knock on the door: "Rourou, it’s Mom."
Xiao Rou quickly went to open the door, Mrs. Xiao’s face didn’t look good either, and she sighed: "Don’t blame your father, he just wants you to have a stable job."
"I know, Mom, I..."
Xiao Rou said, suddenly noticing that Mrs. Xiao’s forehead seemed a bit swollen, and her words changed instantly: "Mom, what happened to your forehead?"
"It’s nothing, I just bumped it a bit."
Bumped it?
Xiao Rou wasn’t foolish; how could she believe such words?
"Did Dad hit you?"
"No."
Mrs. Xiao quickly denied it, but Xiao Rou wouldn’t listen.
"How could he hit you? I was the one who quit the job..."
During the conversation, someone opened the door outside, Mr. Xiao was holding something in his hands and had just come in from outside, Xiao Rou had already rushed over.
She was soft by nature and seldom firm with anyone, let alone her father whom she had revered since childhood. But today, Mr. Xiao seemed to have crossed her bottom line, resulting in the biggest argument in Xiao Family history.
Xiao Rou’s stubbornness was rooted in her own obstinacy, Mr. Xiao inherently had a fiery temper, their argument was so loud that even the neighbors couldn’t help but open their doors to look over.
"If you dare step out of this house today, you’ll never come back. Just leave as far as possible."
