Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction
Chapter 66: Lord Nemean’s Decree
The war was beginning to come to an end as the Nemean tribe, now super-empowered by Kanan, overwhelmed the Typhon tribe.
Even with the power the Nemean Tribe now possessed, this battle was taking its toll on them; all of them, in fact.
Warriors were tired, hurt, and so weak that they could barely stand. This didn’t even include the hunger they were facing as well.
So, one by one, members of the Typhon tribe started to give up and surrendered to the Nemean tribe, even before the battle was over. This way, they could at least keep their lives if the Nemean tribe showed mercy.
"Arghh!" Woton crashed into the ground after being hit by a gravity punch, breaking his chest. He could barely breathe, and getting up was as hard as a baby trying to walk after it was born.
"With your defeat, Woton, this battle is now over." Solan slowly descended onto the ground, blood trailing down his head and nose. He was clearly out of breath and was injured, but feigned strength for everyone to see.
"N-Never! Garghh! T-The Typhon tribe will never surrender!" Once again, Woton tried to get up, but it ended in failure as before. So, he channeled spirit energy into his body, hoping to use himself like a puppet to attack.
Unfortunately for him, Solan was already a step ahead. He crushed Woton’s body under the weight of an intense gravity until his body was turned into mush.
"Unless you wish to end up like your chief, surrender!" Woton bellowed.
Just like that, the Typhon tribe surrendered. Though they believed in their cause, they didn’t wish to suffer the same fate as their chief, especially when thinking about their loved ones back home.
"Kanan, that was extremely reckless of you. But thank you. If not for your intervention, we would have lost this battle." Solan patted Kanan on the shoulder.
"It was thanks to everyone’s effort. All I did was boost your power a bit. I won’t dare say that I was the reason why we won when so many lives were lost while I didn’t even touch a weapon."
"Don’t think like that, kid." Nala ruffled Kanan’s hair and leaned on his shoulder with a smile on her face. "Your power made us stronger, and it was your power that gave the chief the boost he needed to win. Take pride in that."
Solan nodded, agreeing with Nala.
"With the death of Chief Woton and the surrender of the Typhon Tribe, I, Chief Solan of the Nemean Tribe, declare this battle our victory!"
"YEAHHH!"
"WE DID IT!"
"PRAISE NEMEAN!"
"WAY TO GO, LITTLE SHAMAN!"
"KANAN!"
"KANAN!"
"KANAN!"
Solan smiled as the warriors praised Kanan. He was extremely glad to have such a person in their tribe and closed his eyes to thank their gods for watching over them.
He restrained the Typhon tribe with his power, counting only 100 of them left. It was a complete slaughter, but not the good kind. Solan hated senseless bloodshed and felt bad for these people who lost their lives for no reason.
"Elder Nala, lock these prisoners up. We’ll deal with them once the post-battle preparations are complete."
"Yes, chief."
---
The weeks went by in a blur, but they felt extremely long to those in higher positions around the village.
There was a veil of gloominess that wouldn’t leave the village, no matter how bright the sun had shone.
The first two weeks went to repairing the damage done to the village and wall. Their safety came first, so that took priority over anything else.
Once their village was safe and secure, the construction of extra healing huts had commenced, as there were too many injured to fit inside Yala’s healing hut.
It took a bit before every warrior, guard, and hunter could be healed, but after a few more weeks, all of them could breathe the nice air they once could without blood getting in their nose.
Everything wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, though. People lost their arms, legs, eyes, or were permanently crippled in another way. It was a horrible day for those who couldn’t do their roles anymore, further adding to the gloom that blanketed the village.
Finally, after everyone got healed up, there was a mass funeral for everyone who lost their lives.
Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, mates, and more sobbed as their loved ones were burned so their ashes could be spread across their land.
"May they watch over us in the afterlife as they dine with Lord Nemean." Solan prayed.
After the funeral was over, Kanan was called into a council meeting. He had barely spent any time with his family, only seeing them shortly when he needed to eat or sleep.
Resting between their embrace allowed the pleasant dreams to flow, but it didn’t wash away the fatigue he felt.
Kanan knew that he had barely done anything, and if he felt like this, then he wasn’t looking forward to the time when he would have to start taking over more roles in the village. The stress was killing him.
"Now that everything is taken care of, what shall we do with the prisoners?" Solan wondered. He already had his answer, but he wished to know what everyone else thought.
"Kill them and get it over with. Normally, I wouldn’t be so adamant about this, but I think that they overstepped for the last time." Elder Hal had lost an eye in the battle, but he didn’t mind, as he was told that he looked cooler.
"Their forces were completely decimated, their chief was killed, and there’s nothing they can do to us anymore. Just let them go. Who cares what they do after that." Elder Trena was just tired of everything and didn’t feel like shedding any more blood.
"I agree with Elder Hal." Elder Lars said, gripping his hand tightly. "Kill them and let’s be done with them."
Solan nodded. "I see. And you, Elder Nala?"
"Truthfully, I don’t care. I need to go back to defending the southern border so monsters don’t attack us."
"And you, Kanan?"
Kanan kept quiet this whole time because he had been staring at his system ever since he had entered the room.
The timer was gone; it had been gone since the attack, and the system even congratulated him for defending the village, giving him extra perks for future projects. However, there was one thing he didn’t understand, something he couldn’t wrap his head around.
[New Task - Take in the Typhon Tribe.]
That’s it; just five words, but it felt as if his whole world was exploding.
