Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction

Chapter 67: The people won’t like this

’What? Take the Typhon tribe into our own? Hell no! Why should we do such a thing?! Answer, system!’

[The host is to take in the Typhon Tribe and integrate them into your society.]

’And if we don’t?’

[Host, do not forget that you are here because of Nemean the Great. The system was created by him. You carry his blood, so you are special. But do not question his motives.]

Kanan didn’t know which surprised him more: the fact that he had to take in the people who had caused his tribe so much pain, or the way the system’s response sounded almost human, especially with how intimidating it was.

It was as if Nemean was speaking directly to Kanan through the system.

’What in the world is going on?!’

"Kanan?" Nala spoke as she placed a hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay?"

"Heh, n-no, not really. But how I feel doesn’t really matter right now."

"Nonsense." Elder Hal spoke up. "Your opinion is just as important as our own. No, more important, as you are the Village Shaman."

"No," Kanan shook his head while sighing heavily. "It’s not that. I would vote to be done with the Typhon Tribe permanently, but I just received word from Lord Nemean. It appears that he thinks differently."

Everyone perked up upon hearing this. The word of their gods was nothing to scoff at. Anything that their lord wished took precedence over what the council would have decided. So, each of them was very eager to hear what their lord had said.

"Well? What did lord Nemean say to you?" Solan asked with an expression of anticipation.

"Does he wish for us to make amends with the Typhon Tribe instead of killing them?" Elder Lars wondered.

Kanan nodded. "Something like that. Lord Nemean has decreed that we not only make amends with the Typhon Tribe, but adopt them into our village, becoming one people instead of two tribes."

Their reactions were about what Kanan had expected them to be: utter shock and silence. He could see the gears turning in their heads and watched their expressions shift multiple times.

"Are you sure?" Solan felt ill asking if Kanan was sure. He would never dare to question his god, but this was so out of left field that he did so on impulse.

"Yes. I pushed back, saying that there was no way we should take the Typhon tribe into our own, and I was berated. I think I was only spared from punishment because I am of his blood and have the role of Shaman."

That put the fear of Nemean into the council. If Lord Nemean only spared Kanan because of their relationship, then if any of them questioned him, the consequences would be more punishing.

"Alright." It took a lot out of Solan to get those words out, but he managed. "Is there anything else he told you?"

"Yes. Apparently, the next threat we will face is related to the Typhon Tribe. I was told to consult them, as they could have a way to help us make it through this next trial."

"I see. So not only does our Lord want us to make amends by taking them in, but he also wants us to use their knowledge to survive whatever disaster is to come. I understand. Did Lord Nemean give you a time frame to work with?"

"No."

"So we should get started right away then." Nala stood up. "While you all deal with this, I will go back to the southern border to fight against the monsters there."

"And there she goes, leaving the hard work to us." Trena sighed while leaning back in her chair.

Elder Hal rubbed his eyes, just thinking about the reactions of their tribesmen after this is announced. "Man, the people will not like this."

"It matters not what they like or dislike. It is the will of Lord Nemean, so it shall be done." Elder Lars got up and left the room.

"Kanan," Chief Solan called out to him. "You’re going to have to deliver a speech."

Kanan sighed, looking down at the table before leaning back to look at the ceiling. "I was hoping you wouldn’t say that."

---

The council decided to wait a few days before making an announcement to the people. Since the mass funeral had just taken place, they wanted people to grieve a bit more and slowly get back to their daily lives before something this big was shoved into their faces.

"Don’t choke on your words out there." Viola teased.

"I’ll try not to."

"I don’t like this, but since it’s Lord Nemean’s will, I shall accept this," Glena said softly.

Kanan had told both of them what was going to happen, and their initial reactions weren’t the prettiest.

Now, after some days had passed, they had come around to their lord’s decisions, and as they did, Chief Solan paid Kanan a visit, telling him that he would be making the announcement today.

The announcement was taking place at the shrine, a sacred place for a message of this caliber. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for the people to wonder what was going to be announced today.

Some even guessed correctly, stating that this would be where the matter pertaining to the Typhon Tribe would be handled.

Walking up the stairs were the chief and council members, with Kanan following behind them. The five of them took their positions as Kanan stepped out in front, facing everyone with butterflies in his stomach.

’Okay, Kanan, let’s get this over with.’ He cleared his throat, then began to speak.

"People of our beloved Nemean Tribe, it is great to see you all doing so well after everything we have been through. I know most of you had something taken away from you during the battle against the Nemean tribe, but seeing you here today, injured or not, puts a smile on my face. It brings me joy knowing that we can overcome any challenge together."

The people shouted in glee as the first part of Kanan’s speech came to an end.

"Now, I’m sure you are all wondering what we plan on doing with the Typhon Tribe, and it is fitting that I deliver this speech as I was given instruction directly from Lord Nemean."

Hearing that Kanan spoke directly to Lord Nemean made everyone quiet and listen intently to what was going to be said.
