26. First Summon.

"It wasn't anything serious. We just had a little trouble on the drive over, but Odette handled it and everyone's okay."

"Trouble? What kind of trouble?"

"Everything is fine, mom, I promise to tell you the whole thing when we're home." Logan couldn't say anything about the assassination attempt because if he did, he was certain his mother would ask him and Odette to return home immediately in the morning.

But there was no way Logan could do that, especially when he and Odette had a date planned this weekend.

"...." Meanwhile, Rowena stayed silent on the other end of the phone.

She could see that her son wasn't telling her the whole truth, but it was also easy for her to piece together why he was behaving this way.

A few moments ago, Delphine had texted her about the incident, so just like any other mother, she was worried about her son's safety, but Rowena also knew about how stubborn her son was, and she was certain he wouldn't want anything or anyone to stop his date with Odette, and that's why Rowena had decided to let it slide for now, but that doesn't mean she would do the same once he returns to Starlight City.

"Alright, dear. I'll wait till you return home, so have as much fun as you want with your aunt and Odette."

"Thanks, mom, you're the best."

"Ufufu~ I know." Rowena chuckled softly whilst swinging her feet behind her on the bed she was on.

But just right then, she recalled something very important to tell him.

"Oh yeah, that's right. About your cosmetic recipe, that would have to wait till tomorrow, dear, cause mommy had a hectic day today with board meetings and paperwork, so I'll try to do my best to meet the experts tomorrow."

"I understand, mom, and thanks."

"Anytime, dear, love you."

"Love you too." Logan set the phone down and stared at the ceiling as he replayed everything that had happened to him today.

Now he finally understood the reasoning behind the assassination attempt earlier.

At first, he thought Joseph Sinclair was some kind of obsessed lover or something similar to his stepdad, but it turns out the guy simply wanted to claim his aunt's company by any means necessary, seeing as how she was too stubborn to let go of it herself.

*Sigh*

'My aunt is really taking a big risk angering someone from a big household.' Logan muttered internally as he stared at the ceiling in front of him.

He wasn't against Delphine standing up for the company she's built from the ground up, and he could certainly understand the reasoning behind her choices, but overall, he was still worried about her safety, and he was certain even she would be worried as well.

'Hmm, oh yeah, that's right.'

'I haven't checked out my rewards yet.'

Logan instantly pulled up his system screen to check out his reward for completing his last mission.

Logan stared at the screen and immediately allocated each point to his current stats.

Staring at the last set of words displayed on his screen, Logan pondered if he should use it for his aunt's sake.

The thought of leaving her tomorrow to head out on a date with Odette felt worrying for him, and he doubted he could ever fully focus on his time with Odette if he kept worrying about Delphine's enemies attacking again in his absence.

She hadn't been in the country for months, so they hadn't attacked ever since.

But the moment they knew she had returned, they didn't waste a second in trying to get to her.

This just proved how her enemies were closely monitoring her every movement, and this was why Logan wondered if having a magical beast by his side to protect his aunt would be the best option right now.

But as for how to avoid making his aunt or Odette discover the beast, Logan could only hope the beast would have an ability to hide or be at a safe distance from Delphine without his aunt sensing its presence.

"Alright then. Here goes nothing."

"I'm definitely going to do it."

Logan's mind was made up on the idea of summoning a magical beast to keep watch over his aunt from a safe distance.

The thought of something happening to Delphine would definitely make his mom unhappy, and he wouldn't want to see that side of his mother, ever.

However, just before Logan could get his hands on a summoning card, a new screen suddenly appeared before him.

[Quest (1): Go Out On A Date With Odette.]

[Quest (2): Ensure Your Aunt's Safety While You're Out Having Fun With Your Bodyguard.]

[All rewards will be revealed upon quest completion.]

Staring at the words displayed before him, Logan couldn't help but smile warmly.

As always, his system was giving him quests based on things his mind was already set on doing, but this time, he would be receiving a couple of rewards for doing such quests.

"Alright then."

"Let's summon my first magical beast."

Logan made up his mind, and he watched as two thousand system points vanished from his reserves, leaving him with just one thousand system points left.

A part of him felt hurt, but he steeled himself because he knew he was using it for a very important and valuable reason.

And just like that, two black-coloured cards materialised out of thin air.

Each card had a magenta-coloured hue glowing at its edges, but on each card, Logan could also see something glowing within it as well.

On the first card, the fangs of an apex predator were displayed on the card, and on the second card, just a single feather could be seen on it.

And then, a new screen appeared before him, followed by a new string of words displayed on the screen.
