Chapter 193: Chapter 195: Becoming a Female Leader, Picking a Beastman Husband?

Xi Yi stared at the endless expanse of golden-yellow stalks before him, which Su Luoluo had described in such miraculous terms. He was taken aback, finding it hard to believe this grain could be more filling than meat.

’This Su Luoluo seems to know everything... far more than the average female, no, more than the average Beastman.’

’She truly is an extraordinary person.’

He couldn’t help but study her a little more. Under the sun, she was bent over, cutting rice stalks with a stone knife, her eyes filled with joy. She looked as excited as if she had obtained something precious and hard-won.

In the sunlight, her dark eyes sparkled with a determined light—a gaze so confident and bright that one couldn’t help but be captivated by her.

The rice paddy was vast. The seven of them worked for half the day and had harvested less than a third of it.

Perhaps the superpowers the Beastmen had evolved were better suited for harvesting rice. Despite having a Water Ability, Su Luoluo was the slowest harvester of the group.

When they first started, the others were a bit worried about her and told her to rest on the side. But Su Luoluo found it too boring and insisted on working with them, so they finally relented.

Still, she worked at a leisurely pace, unable to keep up with them.

After working for a while, the group sat down to rest and eat.

Knowing they would be out all day, she had specially asked Cai Xia to prepare some potato pancakes for her to bring along.

The potato pancakes were a bit cold but still tasted quite good, though they were a little dry. She casually glanced around and spotted a tree with wild fruit not far away. She headed over, intending to pick some.

Suddenly, she heard a rustling sound. She turned to look in its direction.

Not far away, she saw a large group of long-eared Beastmen curled up and rolling on the ground, groaning in pain.

Hearing the noise, her several Beastmen also looked over.

Su Luoluo walked closer and saw that some of them had faces that had turned black, while others were breathing very rapidly.

’These symptoms are a clear sign of the plague.’

’Su Zhao already passed on the variolation method. Haven’t they heard the news yet?’

"Remember what I said. After I’m gone, find a place to live far away from here. Stay far away from me, or you’ll catch this plague too."

The person lying on the ground, dressed in white beast skin, gave his last instructions in a weak voice.

A young female sobbed grievously. "Priest, don’t say that. I know... Just get some rest. You’ll get better."

"COUGH... Listen... The leader is already gone. Once I’m gone too, you must protect yourself."

Their exchange was so tragic that Su Luoluo couldn’t bear to listen anymore. She walked over to the young female and said, "Stop crying. I have a way to save them."

The young female heard this and could hardly believe it. "Really?"

Su Luoluo nodded. Then, she nodded to the six men behind her.

Soon, the seven of them took out cotton swabs with powdered scabs and went one by one to the seventy or so people on the ground, having them inhale the powder.

Su Luoluo had made them carry these just in case. She hadn’t expected them to come in handy.

Su Luoluo took the Beast Skin Bag from her back, removed a cotton swab from inside, and used a vine to extend it toward the Priest. A moment later, the powdered scab was at the dying man’s nostrils, and he inhaled it.

After doing this, Su Luoluo used the vine to check his temperature. It was scalding hot. She frowned and said:

"His illness is quite severe. We need to keep an eye on him. If he still has a fever tonight and his temperature doesn’t go down, you’ll need to apply more of the powdered scab to his nose."

The young female was completely bewildered by the explanation, only understanding that the Priest could be saved. She nodded hastily.

Seeing that she didn’t seem to understand, Su Luoluo thought for a moment and said, "Come here for a second."

Su Luoluo explained in detail how to use the powdered scabs.

Once she was sure the young female understood, she walked away.

The other six men followed behind her.

They couldn’t finish harvesting the rice in one day, so after working until evening, they hurried back to the tribe.

The next day, when they returned, a young female looked at her excitedly and shouted to the Priest, "It’s her! She’s the one who saved us!"

The High Priest was surprised to see that his savior was a female, but he didn’t dwell on it. He immediately knelt on one knee and said, "Thank you for saving my life, my lady. If it weren’t for you, our tribe would have been wiped out."

Su Luoluo quickly helped him up. "It was nothing, really."

The people the Priest had brought with him did not get up. Instead, they declared resolutely, "Please, be our leader."

Su Luoluo was taken aback, not expecting him to make such a request.

"Um, why don’t you all stand up first, and then we can talk."

The seventy or so people remained kneeling. Su Luoluo had no choice but to say, "Alright then. For now, you can help me harvest the rice."

With dozens of people helping, the rice was harvested quickly.

Looking at the mountain-like pile of rice stalks, Su Luoluo clapped her hands together. "Alright, you’ve repaid your debt of gratitude. Thank you for helping me finish harvesting all the rice. That’s that. You can go now."

After speaking, Su Luoluo glanced at her several Beastmen. "You guys, carry the rice stalks back."

At her words, the six Beastmen tied the bundles of rice to themselves and left with Su Luoluo. However, halfway back, they realized that the group of people hadn’t left at all; they were following them back to the tribe.

Su Luoluo sighed. "Why are you following me? Go on back and live your own lives."

The Priest said, "Leader, wherever you are, we will be."

The sudden arrival of so many people instantly attracted the attention of the other tribe members.

Especially since they were carrying the same golden, glittering things as last time. Someone asked curiously, "Luoluo, what is that stuff?"

"And who are these people?"

"Do they look like Fox Beastmen?"

...

Su Luoluo was in no mood to pay attention to the chatter. Her mind was racing, trying to figure out what to do with all these people.

’Winning over five Beastmen is already keeping me busy enough. I really don’t have the energy to manage this group.’

Just as her head was starting to ache, Su Yang walked over. Seeing so many people trailing behind Su Luoluo, he looked at her and asked, "What’s this?"

Su Luoluo’s eyes lit up when she saw Su Yang. "Father, these people say they want to join our tribe. Why don’t you manage them?"

Su Yang glanced over and saw the High Priest staring intently at Su Luoluo. He seemed to understand the situation.

A smile touched his lips as he skillfully sidestepped the issue. "They’ve pledged their loyalty to you, so I won’t interfere. Besides, you know how to make the antidote for the plague and you have great leadership skills. You’re a perfect fit for a leader."

’Wait, why would Su Yang say that? Isn’t he just putting me in a position I can’t back out of?’

Hearing this, the Priest knelt again. "We greet our leader."

The people behind him quickly followed suit.

Faced with such a powerful display, Su Luoluo had no choice but to accept the title of leader.

She waved her hand. "Then... find a place to live for yourselves!"

’Maybe after a few days, they’ll give up on this idea.’

The Priest nodded and, a moment later, began directing his people to build houses.

That evening, a few of her Beastmen were sitting at the round table for dinner, and Mo Xuan was pestering Su Luoluo to return to their small wooden cabin.

The High Priest walked over, looked at Su Luoluo, and asked, "Leader, would you like me to select a Beastman for you from our tribe?"

Su Luoluo: "?!"

The other Beastmen also gave her looks that were hard to read.
