Tycoon: From Rags to Riches
Chapter 336: You are Option E, You are Plan B
Chapter 336 -263: You are Option E, You are Plan B
“We broke up, right before the break.”
Wan Jiakai answered, his voice sullen.
“Broke up?”
“You two broke up already? How long were you even dating?”
Gu Heng looked surprised. “Why?”
“It’s just…”
“She had a few too many guy friends, and I couldn’t handle it.”
“We had a huge fight right before graduation, and then she broke up with me.”
It was difficult for Wan Jiakai to talk about, but he told him the truth.
“Ohh…”
“Now I get it.”
A look of sudden understanding dawned on Gu Heng’s face.
“What do you get?”
Wan Jiakai was confused.
“Isn’t it obvious?”
Gu Heng shrugged. “You, the self-proclaimed player who’s actually a total romantic, ran into a girl who looked like an innocent romantic but was actually a master player. You thought you were her one and only, but in reality, you were Option E, Plan B, just some random dude she walked all over.”
“Am I wrong?”
“You and your damn theories, one after another! It’s like putting a bra on a sow—you’ve got a whole matching set of them!”
“You’re so slick with your words, are you cramming for a fucking exam or something?”
Gu Heng’s last remark finally broke through Wan Jiakai’s defenses. He glared and retorted, “Besides, who cares if I was Option E or Plan B? Me and Xu Ruo at least slept together! Even if she really is a master player, at least I got a taste of her ‘ocean’!”
“What?”
“You already slept with her?”
“Then what the hell were you whining about just now?”
Gu Heng rolled his eyes. He’d just been wondering if he should try to comfort him, but after hearing this, he instantly lost the inclination.
“Shit!”
“Do you have any idea how much I lost just to be with her?”
Wan Jiakai clutched his chest, his face a mask of anguish. “Just because when we first started dating, she said, ‘You have too many girls in your phone; it makes me feel insecure,’ I personally blew up the ‘fish pond’ I’d worked so hard to build! Now that I think about it, my heart is just bleeding.”
“Alright, alright.”
“Don’t be so broken up about it.”
“It’s just a woman, isn’t it?”
“After we eat, I’ll take you out for some karaoke.”
Gu Heng said with a smile, shaking his head at Wan Jiakai.
“What do you mean?”
“You’re not going to take me to find some ‘music tutors,’ are you?”
When Wan Jiakai heard the word “karaoke,” his eyes lit up.
“What’s wrong?”
“Not a fan of ‘music tutors’?”
Gu Heng raised an eyebrow. “We can just sing, then. If you prefer.”
“I love it, I love it!”
“Are you kidding? I’d love it!”
“I’ve never been to a place like that in my whole life!”
Wan Jiakai’s eyes were sparkling; he looked like he wanted to leave right that second.
“Calm down.”
“What’s the rush?”
“You have no composure at all.”
“It’s only seven. A lot of the girls won’t be there yet.”
“For places like that, prime time doesn’t start until nine.”
Gu Heng shook his head, gesturing for Wan Jiakai to be patient.
“Wait a minute.”
“You’re quite the expert, aren’t you?”
“Sounds like you’ve been going there a lot lately!”
Listening to Gu Heng speak with such authority, Wan Jiakai grew suspicious. “Aren’t you afraid your sugar mama will find out you’re going to places like that?”
“And what if she finds out?”
“Didn’t I just tell you?”
Gu Heng laughed. “At home, she’s the one on her knees serving me.”
“Alright, alright.”
“I believe you, I believe you.”
“It’s one thing to bullshit your friends, but just make sure you don’t start bullshitting yourself.”
Wan Jiakai didn’t believe a word of it. After he spoke, he stood up from his chair, looking like he was about to head to the restroom. But just as he got to his feet, before he could even take a step, a voice called out from a distance.
“Kaikai?”
The voice held a hint of surprise.
On hearing the voice, both Wan Jiakai and Gu Heng instinctively looked toward its source. They saw a man in black casual wear who looked to be in his early thirties.
Gu Heng glanced over; he didn’t recognize the man at all.
“Big Bro?”
Seeing the man, Wan Jiakai’s face lit up with surprise. He quickly waved. The man, who had been heading for the stairs, changed direction upon seeing Wan Jiakai and walked straight toward them.
“For a second there, I thought the alcohol was making me see things. I can’t believe it’s really you!”
The man walked quickly up to Wan Jiakai and clapped him on the shoulder. “When did you get to Beichun, you punk? You didn’t even think to give me a call.”
“Big Bro, I just got here today.”
“I was planning to hang out with my childhood friend for a couple of days before calling you.”
Wan Jiakai scratched his head. In the man’s presence, he suddenly seemed much more reserved and well-behaved.
“Ah Heng, let me introduce you two.”
Wan Jiakai didn’t forget about Gu Heng and immediately made the introduction. “This is my big cousin, Wan Jiaze—my uncle’s son. He’s also the eldest grandson of the Wan Family. He’s fourteen years older than us and he’s in the same line of work I’m going into. Right now, he’s the squadron leader of the criminal investigation team at the Kuan District Branch.”
“Big Bro, this is my childhood friend, Gu Heng.”
“We’ve known each other since we were in diapers. I’m sure I’ve told you about him before.”
Having introduced his cousin, Wan Jiakai then introduced Gu Heng.
“Hello, Brother Wan.”
Gu Heng had already stood up from his chair as Wan Jiakai was making the introduction.
It had nothing to do with the man’s status—it was simply because he was Wan Jiakai’s cousin.
It was as simple as that.
“Ah Heng, right?”
“I’ve heard Kaikai mention you often.”
Wan Jiaze looked at Gu Heng with a friendly expression, but inwardly he was somewhat surprised by the young man’s composure.
As a criminal police captain, he had traveled all over the country for years and seen all sorts of people. He’d met vicious fugitives, cunning con artists, and even powerful bosses who had lost their way.
