Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 570: Master of Awkward Silences
Melody Monroe felt a little flustered.
She quickly changed the subject.
"Are you still going to visit your parents today?"
"Mhm. If their condition is stable today, I can head back with you tomorrow."
"You don’t have to be in such a hurry to go back. You should spend more time with them. It’s not easy for them to see you."
Evan Fairchild looked at Melody Monroe, his gaze seeming to pierce through everything.
Melody suddenly grew nervous. ’Did I say something wrong?’ Lately, she always felt as if his eyes could see past her physical shell and straight into her soul.
"If they knew they had a daughter-in-law as wonderful as you, they’d probably be very pleased."
"Wouldn’t they be angry?"
"So little confidence?"
"Yeah, confidence has never been my strong suit," Melody Monroe admitted candidly.
Especially after transmigrating into this book, she was living a completely different life. She had gone from being an ordinary person to a famous star under the constant scrutiny of the public, and deep down, she still felt a little anxious.
"Being Evan Fairchild’s wife isn’t enough to help you find your confidence?"
"Of course. You’re my strongest shield and my greatest comfort."
"That’s more like it. Actually, if you’re willing, I can take you to see my parents right now."
"Let’s not. Their health isn’t good, and I don’t want to upset them at a time like this. Let’s wait a bit longer. There’s no rush."
"Okay." Evan Fairchild nodded. "Wait for me at the hotel. I shouldn’t be long. My sisters-in-law are there looking after them."
"Alright. I might go out for a little while later to buy a gift for Ian."
"You’re really always thinking about that kid."
...
Evan Fairchild arrived at the nursing home. After he parked, he noticed an eye-catching Maserati in one of the five adjoining spaces reserved for his family.
It was white, and from the model, it looked like a car a woman would drive.
’Did my second sister-in-law get a new car?’
’This style doesn’t seem like something my older sister-in-law would like.’
He straightened his clothes and walked toward the villa-style nursing home in front of him.
As soon as he pushed the door open, he heard a burst of cheerful laughter coming from the living room.
The moment Evan Fairchild walked in, all the sounds stopped abruptly.
Zoe Quinn and Noelle Grant were both there, along with another person.
The eldest daughter of the Langdon family, Megan Langdon.
She was dressed in a chic, high-society outfit that perfectly accentuated her refined, ladylike demeanor. With her oval face, which still had a touch of baby fat, she looked just like the sweet little sister from next door.
In fact, the Langdon family and the Fairchild family could indeed have been considered neighbors in the past.
The Langdon family of three had lived abroad for over a decade. Mr. and Mrs. Langdon had returned to the country a few years ago, while Megan Langdon was still abroad pursuing advanced studies.
She had studied music and art, held solo concerts in internationally renowned theaters, and hosted numerous art exhibitions. In her professional fields, she had already achieved considerable success.
Most importantly, she was very young—only twenty-four years old.
The Langdons were a scholarly family, and they had raised Megan Langdon from a young age to be exceptionally cultured and graceful. She was the very template of a perfect wife for a prestigious family.
"Evan, you’re here. Do you remember her? This is Megan."
"I don’t," Evan Fairchild replied coldly.
The atmosphere in the room instantly dropped to a freezing point.
"Well, it has been many years. It’s natural you wouldn’t have much of an impression," Zoe Quinn immediately said, trying to ease the tension.
Mr. Langdon and their father were friends, despite a large age gap.
In fact, Mr. Langdon was about the same age as Zoe’s husband.
