Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 565: Climbing the Wall
Melody Monroe put down her phone and looked up at Evan Fairchild.
Evan Fairchild sat there casually, yet possessed a unique, captivating presence. Melody Monroe felt that even in a room full of stars, he was still the most dazzling sight.
"Are you planning to just sit here all night?" she asked with a smile.
’Who knows how many people want to use this opportunity to connect with him tonight.’
She had seen people trying to approach their table earlier, only to be bluntly driven away by Evan Fairchild’s stare.
Since returning to the country, Evan Fairchild hadn’t attended any social functions. The industry was full of legends about him, but he hadn’t truly integrated into the domestic market yet.
Aside from the major conflict between Starfall and Stellaris, it seemed he had no other collaborations.
Evan Fairchild raised his hand, and a waiter came over. He took a glass of juice and handed it to Melody Monroe.
"I rarely attend events like this."
Melody Monroe was a little surprised. She thought attending events like this would be routine for Evan Fairchild.
"From now on, I might be attending more often."
"Why?"
"Because you come to events like this, I have to accompany you."
"You make it sound like such a chore. You don’t have to come, you know."
"If I didn’t come, what would I do if someone asked you to dance?"
"I don’t know how."
"Someone else could teach you."
Melody Monroe suddenly stood up and extended a hand toward Evan Fairchild. "Mr. Fairchild, might I have the honor of this dance?"
"I don’t know how either."
Melody Monroe...
’She thought Evan Fairchild would offer to teach her! That’s how it always happens in novels!’
"See? This is why I feel more at ease being here with you."
Melody Monroe suddenly leaned closer to Evan Fairchild and whispered, "So, the great President Fairchild is afraid of someone stealing his girl?"
"I’m afraid a certain woman might be the one to stray."
Melody Monroe...
"I would never," she muttered under her breath before picking up her juice and taking a sip.
Seeing her reaction, Evan Fairchild couldn’t help but laugh.
"Well then, I suppose I should thank President Fairchild for being so concerned about me."
"I’ve told you before. Don’t just say it. Actions are the only way to show your sincerity."
"You..." In her head, Melody Monroe silently cursed him with one word: ’Shameless!’
"How much longer until this banquet is over?"
"You want to leave?"
’She noticed many pairs of eyes darting in their direction, and she could only guess how much resentment was behind them.’
"A lot of people are watching you eagerly."
"Aren’t you doing the same?"
"I’m the target of everyone’s criticism now." Melody Monroe smiled. "Cheryl Rhodes is probably hoping that by exposing the truth about Ian, not only will my ’sponsor’ abandon me, but you’ll no longer be under my spell either."
"I’m already completely bewitched. So, I’ll just have to prove with my actions that I’m your most die-hard fan."
Melody Monroe...
’What an interesting choice of words...’
"Were you just chatting with your fans?"
"Mhm."
"About Ian?"
"Yes. I was surprised, actually. They really like Ian."
"Of course. Just look whose son he is." Evan felt that, apart from his own feelings, the little brat was actually quite likable to others.
’Even if my popularity plummets because of this, it’s to be expected.’
’This issue has been weighing on my heart; it’s what I care about most.’
’Ian isn’t some shameful secret, an illegitimate child who has to be hidden from the world.’
’If my relationship with Evan Fairchild weren’t what it is now, I would have found an opportunity to go public about Ian and myself anyway.’
’It’s better to get this over with sooner rather than later.’
