Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 545: Go on a Blind Date
Melody Monroe described the man as a wanderer because she felt he wasn’t like a real beggar. Even though his clothes were tattered, his eyes were unusually sharp.
She remembered it with perfect clarity.
“And that was it?”
Melody Monroe nodded. “He ate my bun and said he’d teach me a skill. I brought him a bun every day for three months. By the time I’d learned it, he was gone. I think ‘mental suppression’ and ‘mental suggestion’ are probably more accurate descriptions. I’ve looked into real hypnotism, and it’s still not quite the same as what I do.”
“I’ve heard of such things! But this is the first time I’ve seen it in person. I thought you were going to announce Ian’s identity today. That way, President Fairchild could finally make an appearance in the open.”
“It’s not the right time. Keith Coleman, do you think Evan’s parents could ever accept me and Ian?”
“To be honest, I don’t know President Fairchild’s family very well. But I don’t think he’d let things get that melodramatic. He has probably already made plans for how to handle his parents.”
“I still want to wait a little longer.”
Keith Coleman nodded in understanding. He’d read Melody Monroe’s file, after all.
“Is what they say about Jedediah Scott true?”
“Yes,” Melody Monroe nodded.
Keith Coleman fell silent.
…
In Argent, inside a villa ward at a private sanatorium, Evan Fairchild stood before a bed, holding a bowl.
Mr. Fairchild was in the bed on the left, and Mrs. Fairchild was in the bed on the right.
“Evan, why don’t you let me?” Zoe Quinn stepped forward, ready to take the bowl from Evan Fairchild’s hands.
“No! Let him do it,” Mrs. Fairchild said at once.
Zoe Quinn had no choice but to step back. The old woman was clearly still fuming.
Evan Fairchild sat on the edge of the bed with the bowl and continued feeding her.
“Blow on it, it’s too hot. Look at you, you don’t even know how to take care of someone. What are you going to do when you have a wife and children?” As soon as Mrs. Fairchild mentioned this, her breathing became labored.
“Mom, don’t worry about it,” Elliot Fairchild said deliberately. “Maybe once he has a wife, he’ll finally get a clue. Being good to your wife isn’t something you need to be taught.”
Bowl in hand, Evan Fairchild turned and shot Elliot Fairchild a glare, warning him to shut up. He turned back, blew on the soup, and went back to feeding his mother.
“It seems the only way for your father and me to see you is to end up in the hospital. We never saw you when you were abroad, and we still don’t see you now that you’re back.” Mrs. Fairchild finished with a fit of coughing.
“Mom, the doctor said you mustn’t get too agitated.” Zoe Quinn rushed forward to support Mrs. Fairchild, gently rubbing her chest to soothe her.
“Zoe, have you been looking into the matter I asked you about? It’s impossible for a boy like him to find a girlfriend on his own. It’s time to arrange some blind dates for him.”
“Mom, you can’t rush these things.”
“I think that girl from the Langdon family is a good match. I met her last year. Shouldn’t she be coming back home this year?”
Zoe Quinn glanced up at Evan Fairchild. “Evan, you’ve met the Langdon girl before. Her parents mentioned to me that they’re… amenable to the idea. What do you think…?”
“Zoe, there’s no need,” Evan Fairchild refused point-blank.
“COUGH! COUGH!” Mrs. Fairchild broke into another violent coughing fit.
Evan Fairchild simply stepped back with the bowl, letting Zoe Quinn take over.
“Fine! If you won’t go on blind dates, then give me your word. Can you find a girlfriend and get married within a year? Can you give me a grandchild to hold within three?”
