"I don’t need a wife like you," Christopher Sterling said suddenly, his tone icy and devoid of emotion.

The lenses of his gold-framed glasses reflected the city lights, masking his true emotions.

Lana Sheffield thought his voice and his very presence were terrifyingly cold.

"I really had nothing to do with this! You have to believe me." Lana Sheffield hurriedly grabbed Christopher Sterling’s arm. "Are you going to divorce me? Think about it, our child was just born! For our son’s sake, just forgive me this one time! Please?"

"So you *do* know you have a son! You *do* know you’re a mother!" Christopher Sterling turned to look at Lana Sheffield.

His gaze terrified Lana Sheffield.

The man before her was nothing like the person she knew.

He was so sinister and terrifying.

"I really didn’t do it. Today is our son’s full-moon banquet. On such an important day, why would I do something like this? I didn’t know anything about it beforehand." Lana Sheffield was starting to panic. She couldn’t admit to this, no matter what.

’Otherwise, Christopher Sterling might actually divorce me!’

"I don’t want to see Eileen Scott ever again."

"But... she..." Lana Sheffield tried to argue, but one look from Christopher Sterling and she quickly relented. "I’ll have her leave the company immediately. She’ll never appear in front of you again."

"Get out of the car. I have things to do."

"I..." Lana Sheffield started to say something but stopped herself.

She had wanted to say she would bring the baby home later instead of staying with the Sheffield Family. But Christopher was furious right now. She figured he wouldn’t treat her well if she went back, so it was better to just stay at her family’s home for a while longer.

"Well, don’t work too hard. Make sure you get some rest. I’ll bring the baby home in a few days."

Christopher Sterling remained silent.

The moment Lana Sheffield got out, he started the car and drove away.

Lana Sheffield watched the car drive away, a bitter taste in her mouth.

’Today’s little drama... I really shot myself in the foot!’

"Sis!" Eileen Scott cried, running out after her. "Auntie sent me to check on you. You didn’t fight with your husband, did you?"

"Fight?"

"Oh, good. I’m glad you didn’t fight."

"We didn’t fight. We nearly got a divorce."

"What?!" Eileen Scott exclaimed, startled. "So what happens now...?"

"Find a new career. Stop acting."

"I..."

"That’s final. No more excuses!" Lana Sheffield snapped before walking back toward the banquet hall.

Eileen Scott pointed at herself, the words caught in her throat. She felt like she was going to burst from holding it all in!

Wayne Payne hadn’t dared to leave. There were only a few people left in the hall, which made him stick out like a sore thumb. The moment he saw Lana Sheffield walk in from outside, he shot to his feet.

Lana Sheffield glanced in Wayne Payne’s direction. "Go find out what’s going on with the media. Why isn’t there a single story online about Melody Monroe’s illegitimate child?"

"Right! I’ll get on it right away."

...

Keith Coleman drove, occasionally glancing over at Melody Monroe.

He was still stunned by Melody Monroe’s performance at the banquet.

"Ma’am, do you really know hypnotism? Is that what you used on Eileen Scott?"

"Yes, but it’s not ordinary hypnotism. It’s hard to explain."

"That’s incredible! How did you learn it? Where?"

"What if I told you I learned it in exchange for a steamed bun? Would you believe me?"

"I’d believe you! How did you trade a steamed bun for it?"

"When I was little, I met an old homeless man. I felt sorry for him, so I gave him a steamed bun."
