Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 537: I Looked Into It
Melody Monroe opened her mouth, but held back. She suddenly changed her mind. “Rose, I think I’ll go after all.”
“Why? Do you think this is aimed at us?”
“I just suspect it might be targeting me. But then again, it’s the full moon banquet for Lana Sheffield’s son. Maybe I’m just overthinking it.”
“You’ll be attending the Golden Orchid Award ceremony soon. Do you have enough time?”
“There’s enough time.”
…
Ever since seeing Yasmine Scott that day, Melody Monroe had been feeling uneasy.
It seemed Yasmine Scott and Eileen Scott were distantly related.
Yasmine Scott hated the body’s original owner to the core. There was no way she’d let her have a good life.
Besides, Yasmine Scott had some evidence.
After all, the original owner had once spent time at a villa arranged by Jedediah Scott while she was pregnant.
Although in the original story, these plot points were only exposed by Yasmine Scott much later, she still felt uneasy.
When Evan Fairchild arrived home, he saw Melody Monroe sitting in the living room, staring into space. She seemed completely lost in thought, though he had no idea what was on her mind.
He took off his jacket, handed it to Auntie Lana, and walked toward Melody Monroe.
Melody Monroe hadn’t noticed Evan Fairchild yet when, suddenly, she felt a weight on her shoulder as he pulled her into his embrace.
“How come you’re back so early today?”
“My scenes finished up quickly. I didn’t have many with a scene partner.”
“I have to go back to Argent tomorrow. I might be there for a few days.”
“What are you going to Argent for?”
“The weather in Argent has been bad lately. My parents are getting older and aren’t in the best of health. They’ve both been hospitalized.”
“Is it serious?”
“It’s not serious, but they won’t be discharged for a little while.”
“Then you should go back and see them.”
“Actually, I should take you with me.”
“I’d love to go see your parents, but the timing isn’t right just yet.”
“I understand.” Evan Fairchild hadn’t gone public with their relationship or told his family because he understood Melody’s predicament. He could see that she lacked self-confidence.
‘But in his eyes, she was the best—the only girl in the world who could move his heart.’
“What’s this?” Evan Fairchild suddenly noticed the red invitation on the table.
“It’s an invitation from the Sheffield family, for Christopher Sterling and Lana Sheffield’s baby’s full moon banquet.”
“Why was something like this brought into the house?” Evan Fairchild picked it up, preparing to throw it away.
“Don’t throw it away.” Melody Monroe grabbed his arm and took the invitation back. “I was about to talk to you about this. I want to go.”
“Why do you want to go?”
“Evan, I don’t know how to tell you this… but when I was pregnant with Ian, I stayed at the Scott family’s home for a while.”
“Jedediah Scott?”
“You know?” Melody Monroe was surprised.
“I’ve looked into it. How does Jedediah Scott fit into this?”
“I knew his daughter, Yasmine Scott. We were… friends, I suppose. I thought I was pregnant with her dad’s child, so…” Melody Monroe stammered.
“You used to like Jedediah Scott?”
“No! Absolutely not!” Melody Monroe denied hurriedly.
“I know about that too.”
“Huh?”
“I’ve looked into it,” Evan Fairchild replied calmly.
Melody Monroe had spent ages psyching herself up to haltingly bring up a past that had nothing to do with her, and she never expected Evan Fairchild’s reaction to be like this.
‘The original owner’s past was a long and complicated story.’
‘Good thing she’d transmigrated when she did. If it had been any later, “tragic” wouldn’t have even begun to describe it.’
