And now, she had no choice but to deal with all the consequences of her predecessor’s life.
"Aren’t you angry?"
"I was, but I’m over it."
"Over... it?" Melody Monroe looked at him, confused.
"I already got angry once when I first learned about the situation."
Melody Monroe figured as much. Since he’d known about Ian’s existence for so long, it was obvious that nothing about her predecessor could be hidden from him. All it would take was a simple investigation.
Still, she had decided it was best to bring the matter up with him again, face-to-face.
"What does this have to do with attending the full moon banquet for Christopher Sterling’s son?"
"A while ago, I saw Yasmine Scott at a restaurant, and the look she gave me was unsettling. On top of that, Lana Sheffield is inviting so many media outlets this time. I’m worried she’s plotting something. If Lana is planning to pull a stunt at the banquet, I can at least react accordingly if I’m there. If I don’t go, I’ll just be a sitting duck for whatever accusations they throw at me."
"Have Keith Coleman go with you."
"Okay." Melody Monroe nodded immediately.
Evan Fairchild stared at the red invitation, his gaze frighteningly dark.
Later that night, Melody Monroe was fast asleep.
Evan Fairchild quietly stepped out of the room, took out his phone, and called Tommy.
"President Fairchild."
"Go find out which media outlets Lana Sheffield has invited to the full moon banquet."
"I’ll get on it right away."
"Report back to me as soon as you find out."
"Yes, sir."
...
The full moon banquet hosted by the Sheffield family for their grandson was so grand it became a major event in Rockwellburg.
Everyone was talking about it. There hadn’t been nearly this much fanfare when Lana Sheffield and Christopher Sterling got married, yet they were making a huge spectacle for the birth of their child.
Rumor had it that Christopher Sterling had already taken over the Sheffield family’s businesses. After the Fairchilds terminated their partnership with the Sheffields, it was Christopher’s efforts alone that recouped the family’s massive losses, allowing them to find their footing again despite the blow from the Fairchild family.
Although Christopher Sterling lacked a powerful background, his capabilities were not to be underestimated.
As if afraid people wouldn’t notice, Lana Sheffield had booked out the most luxurious hotel in Rockwellburg. The first floor was decorated to create a whimsical atmosphere, resembling a fantastical amusement park.
Elijah Sterling, now discharged from the hospital, lay in a crib under the personal care of Mrs. Sheffield.
In the banquet hall, Lana Sheffield was greeting guests by herself; Christopher Sterling was nowhere in sight.
Lana Sheffield herself wasn’t sure if Christopher Sterling would even show up.
She mentally prepared herself. ’Even if Christopher really doesn’t come, it doesn’t matter anymore.’
When Melody Monroe arrived at the banquet hall, people nearby recognized her at once.
"Melody Monroe! It’s Melody Monroe."
"Melody, can we get a picture with you?"
Melody Monroe’s appearance at this full moon banquet took everyone by surprise.
Lana Sheffield noticed the commotion at the entrance and thought Christopher Sterling had arrived. When she saw it was Melody Monroe, her expression chilled slightly.
"Sis, I can’t believe Melody Monroe actually dared to show up."
"I was worried she wouldn’t."
Eileen Scott watched as people crowded around Melody Monroe, a flash of resentment in her eyes. "Let’s see how long she can keep that smug look on her face."
Lana Sheffield walked toward the entrance. "Melody, you made it."
Hearing Lana Sheffield’s voice, the crowd immediately parted to make way.
"Mrs. Sterling, congratulations." Melody Monroe walked toward Lana Sheffield.
Lana Sheffield immediately looped her arm through Melody Monroe’s. "I was afraid you’d be too busy to make it!"
Everyone was stunned.
’What in the world is going on?’
’Weren’t there rumors that Mrs. Sterling and Melody Monroe couldn’t stand each other? How are they acting so friendly all of a sudden? Are we all seeing things?’
