Chapter 453 - 451: Is This an Exchange of Conditions?

Mrs. Hughes had just sat back down when she saw her son apologizing. She shot back up, rushed over, and yanked Felix Hughes to his feet.

"What’s the big deal? So what if she’s pregnant? Our Rose Shaw will give the Hughes Family a big, healthy grandson next year. We’ll be aiming for two in three years!"

"Mom! Stop!" Felix Hughes tried to stop her, but it was too late.

He quickly looked toward Rose Shaw.

There was no expression on Rose Shaw’s face.

Melody Monroe was startled when she heard this. ’What’s going on? Didn’t Rose say that Director Hughes didn’t care about the issue of children?’

’He clearly hadn’t communicated properly with his own parents! Or rather, he hadn’t communicated with them about this at all.’

’Judging by Director Hughes’s mother’s behavior, she wants him and Rose to have a baby as soon as they’re married.’

"Rose Shaw, my mom has no filter, please don’t take it to heart. Can we talk about this when we get home? I’ll explain everything clearly."

"No, there’s no need to explain." Rose Shaw shook her head, looking at Felix Hughes. "The engagement is off. And I won’t be marrying you."

Keith Coleman was stunned.

"What? The engagement is off? You’re not getting married? Rose Shaw, how could you do this? Do you have any idea what you’re saying?" Mrs. Hughes instantly blew up. "Marriage isn’t a game! How can you just call it off whenever you feel like it?"

"I’ve made myself clear. That’s my decision." Rose Shaw turned to change her clothes and leave.

"Rose Shaw!" Felix Hughes grabbed her arm and said urgently, "Give me a few minutes. Can we please talk?"

"There’s no need. I don’t think there’s anything left for us to talk about." Rose Shaw looked at Felix Hughes. She couldn’t say she was heartbroken, but she felt suffocated.

’Even though there was no love between her and Felix Hughes, she had been serious about it.’

’She had even imagined what their future together would be like.’

’She knew it was still unfair to Felix Hughes, but she would have tried her best to be a good wife.’

’It had taken all her courage to tell him she was infertile.’

’He was the Hughes Family’s only son. While she didn’t know his parents perfectly, she had impressions of them from her childhood. That was why she had been worried and had asked Felix Hughes to tell his parents about it with great care.’

"Just a few minutes, Rose Shaw. Is our relationship really this fragile?"

"Fine." Rose Shaw nodded.

Felix Hughes followed Rose Shaw into the lounge.

The people outside were all completely bewildered. They didn’t even know what had happened. How did things suddenly turn out like this? A moment ago, everything had been fine, full of festive cheer.

Keith Coleman kept glancing toward the room Rose Shaw had entered.

’This seems to be related to children. Does Rose Shaw not want to have kids?’

’No, it can’t be that simple.’

Mr. Hughes held Mrs. Hughes back, stopping her from interfering. If he hadn’t been holding on tight, she probably would have stormed into the room.

"Rose Shaw, I’m sorry. I really didn’t tell my parents about this. It’s true they can’t accept the idea of not having grandchildren, but I feel that marriage is a matter for the two of us. The person I love is you."

"If your mom comes to me demanding a child, what will you do?"

"They won’t be living with us. And when the time comes, we can adopt a child. It just won’t be our own."
