Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year

Chapter 390 - 388: It’s All Thanks to Mr. Fairchild

Keith Coleman brought the glass of water to his nose and sniffed it.

"Such a crude substance!" He could already tell what kind of drug it was by the smell.

He’d cut his teeth in these kinds of environments; there wasn’t a scheme he hadn’t seen before!

When dissolved in water, you could still faintly smell this kind of drug. If it were added to a mixed drink, the average person probably wouldn’t smell a thing.

But Keith Coleman was no average person.

...

Rhona Hughes was anxiously waiting for news. Half an hour had passed, and Chester Johnson still hadn’t gotten back to her.

She had been watching the livestream as well. She’d only caught a fleeting glimpse of Chester Johnson, and while she saw Melody Monroe ask for a glass of water, she never saw her drink it.

Then the camera had cut away to somewhere else.

She was certain that Chester Johnson must have put something in that glass of water.

But she couldn’t be sure whether Melody Monroe had actually drunk it.

There was no way she was going to let Melody Monroe stand in her way again!

’First, humiliate Melody, then I’ll deal with her for good!’

"Give him a call and see what his status is!" Rhona Hughes ordered Wendy, who was standing to the side.

Wendy took out her phone and dialed Chester Johnson’s number.

"What’s the situation on your end?"

"Melody Monroe didn’t drink the water. I’m looking for another opportunity," came Chester Johnson’s reply.

"Okay, got it."

Rhona Hughes, who had overheard, slammed her fist on the table in frustration.

...

The moment Melody Monroe stood up and walked into the crowd, people immediately approached to exchange pleasantries. In the blink of an eye, she was surrounded.

Whether they genuinely wanted to befriend her or were just trying to use her, she had become the center of attention.

Melody Monroe grumbled to herself, ’This is all Evan Fairchild’s doing.’

"Melody, I don’t think I have your contact info. Can we exchange it?"

"Sure," Melody Monroe nodded, taking out her phone and pulling up her QR code. A few more people immediately rushed over to scan it.

Watching this scene, Eileen Scott felt a sour knot form in her stomach.

She knew why everyone was fawning over Melody Monroe.

’It’s all because of Evan Fairchild.’

’It’s not like Evan Fairchild is actually interested in Melody. He just gave her a business card. Is all this buzz really necessary?’

’She’s dominating the trending topics! Melody Monroe is hogging the spotlight!’

After a round of toasts from several people, the cocktail in Melody Monroe’s glass was nearly empty.

"Melody, I remember you have allergies. You can’t drink, can you?" Shannon Paxton said considerately, hesitant to offer her another toast.

"Thank you, but my allergies have gotten much better."

"Really? That’s great! Allergies are just awful."

Of everyone there, Shannon Paxton was the most effusive toward Melody Monroe. Though not a big star, she was a veteran of sorts, having debuted three years ago. She had appeared in a few dramas, but always in insignificant roles, just a small step above being an extra.

Now, with her contract at her current agency about to expire, she had been hesitant to accept the invitation to this show, predicting it would be grueling.

But now, she was privately patting herself on the back for deciding to participate.

So she wasn’t about to pass up any opportunity to ride on someone else’s fame.

While Melody Monroe was exchanging pleasantries, Eileen Scott was sulking by herself. Suddenly, her eyes landed on Chester Johnson’s figure again, and she immediately frowned.

’This guy is so infuriating!’

’Didn’t I tell him to stay out of conspicuous places?’

’And he’s actually snuck his way back over here!’
