Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 389 - 387: I Do Have a Good Idea
Keith Coleman hurried to follow her.
"What’s going on?" she asked Keith Coleman.
"Someone drugged the water."
"Who did it?" Melody Monroe was shocked, but one look at Keith Coleman told her he wasn’t joking.
"Chester Johnson."
"He’s here too?" Melody Monroe was stunned. She started to look toward the banquet hall, but then realized how abrupt that would be and stopped herself.
No one paid them any mind as she spoke with Keith Coleman.
Everyone just assumed she was giving him some instructions.
Chester Johnson was standing in a corner. Eileen Scott found his appearance unpleasant and had told him to stay out of sight. Seeing him lurking in the shadows, she felt a surge of annoyance.
She had no idea what Wayne Payne had been thinking, assigning her such an assistant.
Most of the time, she was even a little afraid to talk to him.
The production team had a rule that each celebrity could bring no more than four people. He was already taking up one of those slots, and now here was Chester Johnson too.
The worst part was that this Chester Johnson never did anything. Whenever she actually needed him, he was nowhere to be found!
It was a miracle he even showed up today!
’Doesn’t he know what kind of place this is? Does he really think he belongs at an event like this?!’
Eileen Scott fumed as she marched over to Chester Johnson and demanded, "What are you doing here? I didn’t tell you to come."
"I’m your assistant," Chester Johnson replied coldly.
Eileen Scott was at a loss for words. ’Nowhere to be found when I actually need help! And now he remembers he’s my assistant?’
"Go back. You’re not needed here!" Eileen Scott said, waving her hand as if shooing away a fly.
"Wayne Payne said I have to be here today," Chester Johnson said, invoking Wayne Payne’s name.
Eileen Scott choked on her words, not daring to argue back.
"Fine. But don’t stand here. Go stand somewhere far away, and don’t you dare come near me. Do you hear me?"
"Understood."
Having lectured Chester Johnson, Eileen Scott returned to her seat.
...
"I want to see what he’s really up to. I don’t know what he put in that glass. Should we just restrain him now?"
"There’s no point. We have no evidence. He’s only following Eileen Scott so he can make a move on me. Since that’s the case, let’s make sure his crime is undeniable!"
"Undeniable?" An idea sparked in Keith Coleman’s mind.
Melody Monroe nodded.
’If Rhona Hughes is behind this, it definitely won’t be as simple as just slipping something in my drink.’
’She probably just wants to embarrass me today.’
Melody Monroe started walking toward the buffet table.
"Melody, are you sure you’re done eating?"
"Yeah, you’ve barely touched your food."
"Of course I’m going to eat more! Who cares about dieting in the face of such a feast? I think I’ll have a couple of drinks, too."
"This wine is great! Let’s have a drink, let’s have a drink!"
Melody Monroe stood up and waved over a server. "Excuse me, could you please get me a cocktail instead? Thank you."
"Of course, Miss Monroe."
Chester Johnson watched as the glass of plain water was taken away, his hands clenching into tight fists.
’That woman, Rhona Hughes... She wouldn’t let me take direct action, insisting on this complicated plan to make Melody Monroe embarrass herself. What a pain!’
’Now that Melody Monroe didn’t drink the water, what am I supposed to do?’
’Good thing I have more of the drug. I can still find another way.’
The glass of water was carried away, and the server was just about to pour it out when someone tapped him on the shoulder.
"I’m dying of thirst. Let me have that water." Keith Coleman took the glass from him.
"Would you like me to get you a fresh glass?"
"No need, this one’s fine. Thanks." Holding the glass, Keith Coleman walked off in another direction.
