Too Late For Regrets: I Sold My Soul To The New Intern
Chapter 98: Rooftop 1
Corrine’s hold around the pen tightened as the elevator slowed to a stop.
Alve standing beside her gave her a worried look as she said nothing throughout their entire journey here.
What was currently going on in her mind?
Her eyes wandered to the pen in her hands before slowly moving up to observe the solemn look on the human’s face.
Who was going to get stabbed tonight? And that too with a...pen?
Alve chuckled nervously. ’’Miss, are you going to the rooftop hoping to see His Royal Highness there?’’
Silence.
’’Perhaps to enjoy the lovely weather together?’’
Corrine’s eyes shifted over to the demon.
The burning look in them made Alve gulp as they stared at each other.
What’s happening?
Why does she look so...mad?
Was it something I said?
Should I apologise or not?
Before Alve got the chance to apologise for whatever she might have done to upset the human, her glossy eyes moved as the elevator doors slid open and the human got out of it without uttering a word, leaving her behind in the tube.
Alve said nothing as she stepped aside to give the human enough space to leave the elevator. Or perhaps she was simply afraid of doing something wrong again and offending her.
’’Do not follow me.’’
Alve blinked as her back touched the cool surface of the metal walls of the elevator.
The human said outside of the entrance without looking back.
’’I can find him on my own from here.’’
The doors moved sideways until they met. Trapping the poor incubus in the tubes with her thoughts.
Him?
It took a while for Alve to understand who was and with the way the human spoke of him so coldly...
Alve couldn’t hold back the shiver that took over her body. Her palms went over the length of her arms repeatedly and it didn’t take long for Alve to realize...the human might not be romantically interested in His Royal Highness at all.
Hell, she isn’t like the rest of them who are deeply enthralled by His Majesty’s beauty and glory.
Alve gasped as she tried to understand things better.
If that’s the case, then why is the serpent so obsessed with her and unwilling to let her go even after death?
Alve’s brow creased in confusion at the startling mystery.
Even those willing to offer themselves to the serpent and worship at his feet because of what he was wouldn’t dare demand so much as a single glance from him.
Why her?
What makes her different from the others willing to use and be used?
Hmm.
I must observe them both closely and figure out what exactly is going on between them.
Alve nodded her head and triggered the command back to the ground floor to attend to her other duties for the night.
☆
She could hear the rain with every step she took beside the see-through walls.
It showed a gorgeous view of the large rooftop overlooking the hills, mountains and the world below.
Corrine kept moving still without any shoes on. Her clothes were partly dry, and her hair was still a mess. Her eyes sharp for any sign of him.
Her heart throbbed when she saw him casually waiting very close to the edge. His eyes fixed on something far beyond his reach in the sky as she moved. Her eyes pinned on him, her hold around her murder weapon tightened. Though she wasn’t that delusional to think this would be enough to fight the biggest monster there was in this place but it should be enough to cause fatal injuries to him if she proved to be smarter and stealth about it.
He was so calm and innocent but she refused to be swayed by such a look ever again.
He was dangerous.
Hell, the humans she had been unfortunate to have in her life didn’t have fangs or venom before they ruined her life completely.
Now, she was smarter and sharp. She wouldn’t let the worse slither into her life again. Not this one or the next.
The door leading to the rooftop loomed before her. But at some point, it felt like it drifted farther with every step she took.
No matter what, she was ready and prepared to face him again. To be in control once again. Once he provided the answers to the questions that she had, she would leave and make sure he never had any access to him ever again.
But what bothered Anais the most wasn’t her resurrection, death or his puzzling confession of wanting to give her a better life this time.
It was...
Corrine pushed the door open and stepped out of the building to see he was gone.
A gasp escaped her mouth as the breeze from the pouring rain gave her a cold greeting.
Goosebumps took over her skin like tiny anthills, her hands remained on the door as she stared at the large and empty space.
No sight of him anywhere.
What?!
Corrine let go of the door and stepped out further in bewilderment.
Did I just imagine him standing right there until I reached the door?
The poor girl stood in the middle feeling lost and overwhelmed by it all at once.
She stared up and her lips parted in awe at the sound of the heavy rain pouring but not a single drop made its way down on her or anywhere around her.
Corrine moved, turning three sixty degrees just to be sure she wasn’t imagining things.
What was this?
She turned left.
Did I get so angry that my brain became extraordinary enough to be imaging things? Unreal moments.
She moved right and paused, feeling like the only sheep lost in a field that stretched on forever.
Her eyes twitched and narrowed as she took in the beautiful space of the rooftop. It felt like she had stepped into a magical world that glows only in the dark and in chaos.
Either way she likes to describe it...Her chest rose and fell as she felt safe not taking any step further or back.
Corrine was genuinely scared by everything.
Ever since she woke...or they like to call it resurrect...nothing has ever felt the same before.
Am I even still the real me?
He thought she was beautiful no matter which direction she looked and searched for him. He was close, just an inch away from her all the time.
Every time she turned and met with his eyes briefly enough to look away...he would just find himself smiling and wondering how lucky he was to deserve such a perfect creature.
One he could call his forever and no one dares tell him not to.
His eyes followed her no matter where she turned.
When he saw how scared and overwhelmed she was by everything...
’’There are three things my father said was capable of ending the world one day.’’
He said as he made himself visible again just for her.
Corrine paused as she felt him standing right behind her.
His eyes lowered until they rested on top of her softly as he told her something honest.
Something she was the first and the last person to ever know about.
’’The deep blue blankets of water surrounding your world.’’
Corrine heard him say one of his nonsense again but chose to remain calm and get it right this time.
’’Sin...’’
Grim whispered as he fought the urge to move close enough to wrap his arms around her from behind. To hold her, to love her and remind her again who she belonged to.
’’And me.’’
