Too Late For Regrets: I Sold My Soul To The New Intern
Chapter 97: Pages Of A Book
Corrine watched as Alve typed in the passcode to the door.
It was strange when she realised the passcode was eerily similar to her name...
7 A 18 N 9 A 13 I S.
Corrine blinked and grew suspicious when the door opened with a soft automated sound.
Did I just read my name among those numbers?
Her eyes widened in horror.
Corrine wanted to believe that she was just overthinking things.
He couldn’t have dared...
’’The passcode is very easy to miss. It’s just a bunch of simple numbers and alphabets moved in between. I will write it down for you later so that whenever you need something and I am not there to assist you, you won’t feel...stranded.’’
Corrine listened as the incubus told her.
’’You would be able to get them yourself quickly and I’m letting you know also in case of emergencies.’’
Corrine nodded her head while trying to match her smile and friendly nature.
’’Though I wonder why His Highness changed the passcode all of a sudden. I heard from one of the maids that it wasn’t like this before I started working here.’’
’’Before you...started working here?’’
Alve nodded her head and told Corrine a bit about her experience getting to work for one of Hell’s top and most elite demons you can think of as they entered the room.
She spoke about her first day working here. How she felt overwhelmed by the imposing structure alone and walked on the tip of her toes her first few hours in this building.
Corrine learned more about the night she had been resurrected and brought into the room.
’’His Highness was very worried. He almost burned down the whole room for your sake.’’
Corrine’s mouth parted in disbelief and something else.
Was it in cringe?
She settled on the edge of the bed of the room. Apparently, the demons that made her escape possible were no longer in the building. Only two were left, cleaning the mess she made in the bathroom when she saw that thing for the first time.
Merely thinking about it gave her chills and goosebumps.
’’He was there when we treated the wounds and scars on your body...’’
Corrine eased more on the soft bed, her palms placed on her thigh as she heard the heavy sound of the rain pouring outside. Even if she decided to keep walking down that road, it would be a miracle if she managed to survive the night all by herself. And she wasn’t really sure if her faithful employees would be waiting around somewhere to receive her. Even if they did, what was the possibility that they would meet.
Corrine sighed more and tried to be more reasonable.
She would wait until morning. This creature talking nonstop in front of her would give her access to the passcode of this place so she can leave whenever she wants to right after he provided answers to the four mysteries that plagued her mind.
But for now, she would simply try not to get killed by...him or any other forms of nightmare that lurked in this building until dawn.
She can’t really tell if her faithful employees would make it down here again tomorrow. This time, she would be fully awake and leave with them without having to put up a pretense or be afraid to.
Corrine nodded inwardly.
Until sunrise, she would just have to get the answers to all her questions then prepare for her final departure.
And she hoped that would be the last time she would ever have to see or be worried about him ever again.
’’...And His Highness was there when we placed you in the bathtub and scrub all the dirt from your skin...’’
It took three seconds until she reacted to it.
’’He was so caring and protective of you the entire time—’’
’’Wait, what?’’
Corrine sat upright this time, looking tense and beyond horrified. Alve stared down at the human, her eyes moving right and left trying to figure out what she said wrong.
’’I said, His Highness was there the entire time being so caring and protective of you...’’
Corrine closed her eyes and tried not to sigh deeply. She shook her head and demonstrated with an index finger that it was what she said before that she was most concerned with. Alve’s lips mushed together in realization. Her cheeks reddening as had a mischievous thought to tease the human a bit and did.
’’I said that he was there when we placed you inside the bathtub the entire time we scrubbed all the dirt off your body.’’
The more Corrine thought about it, the more disgusted and uncomfortable she was about everything. But Alve wasn’t done teasing her. The mischievous incubus who was now being more at ease with this human than the people of her kind smirked and poked further.
’’He even helped scrub some parts of your body and held you the entire time while you were...’’
That sneaky pervert–ish demonic snake-freak!
Corrine jumped to her feet, scaring Alve a bit. The tension in the room rose enough to make multiple hearts race. Her hands balled into tight fist as she glared venom at the wall, putting Alve and other living things in the room ill at ease.
Alve moved close enough to see what she was glaring at and beside the wall was the study chair and table of His Royal Highness with the golden table lamps still turned on over an opened book.
’’That...creepy...obsessive...demonic...slithering slime.’’
Alve’s gaze widened in horror. The maids working in the bathroom peeked from the door to see who just dared to insult the ancient beast of Eden and remained untouched.
Her dark green gaze moved like burning coals, as if looking for any trace that crawling thing left behind. She thought she saw him slithering up the wall to her left but realized she was just imagining it.
How did I really get so entangled with you?!
’’Cold-blooded worm. Mutated freak.’’
She spat out in bullets, feeling her anger surge without even fully uncovering all of his dirty deeds and sin.
He could kidnap her, bring her back to life or whatever. Hell, he could force her to live among his mutated friends as well and bar all entrances and exit of this fancy prison.
He could even...
Corrine shivered and gulped. Her eyes closed as she remembered the feel of his lips on hers again . The memory of that heated night was indeed sinful. Devilish and hard to resist...or maybe she wasn’t that disciplined enough!
Well, whatever!
She licked her bottom lips before biting down on the plump flesh hard enough to get that memory far away from her. Preferably to the ends of the earth!
He could do all those things and be slapped multiple times across the face by her.
But not...this.
This was unacceptable.
’’Where is he?’’ she asked with no room for argument. Her blood burned hot and cold at the same time to get back at him for daring to look and even touch her while she was helpless and vulnerable under the pretense of cleaning her up.
Corrine scoffed, ready to clean him up as well right after she murdered him for real this time.
’’Uh...’’ Alve stuttered out, having no idea. She turned to the maids peeking from the bathroom and stared at them to talk if they had any clue of His Royal Highness’s whereabouts.
Both maids turned to each other as Corrine slowly walked towards the study table to choose her murder weapon.
Her fingers moved over the cup of writing materials before pausing on a pen she was sure was sharp enough to blind one eye, if not both.
She picked it up but paused at the file and books sprawled neatly on the table.
’’Well, the last time we saw His Highness was...’’ One of the demons lurking in the bathroom began after being pressured by Alve’s stares to say something.
He has been working here all day and night the entire time.
Corrine leaned closer to pick up the file before her eyes flickered over to the contents of the book. She moved closer until she was able to read the contents. Her fingers moving over the words scribbled down in a familiar handwriting. The pages of the book felt soft and cold beneath her fingers, just like his lips...
Something within her softened the more as she realized what this was about.
Her eyes moved away from the book as she tried to make perfect sense of what this was about.
’’...he came in here a while ago and vanished. B–b-but the demons that worked and left before us said something about him visiting the rooftop again when it rains.’’
’’The...rooftop?’’ Alve asked the demons to ensure she heard them both correctly. The demons bobbed their heads at her at the same time.
Why would he go to the rooftop—-ah!
Alve jumped and followed quickly behind the human who was already marching out of the room towards the rooftop.
A place she might eventually find after getting lost a million times.
