Grim had no choice but to see them off.

Leaving behind his love unprotected.

He felt like if he could lead them to the elevator and bid them goodbye once they reached the ground floor, he could materialize back here in time to prevent anything from happening.

He agreed.

He met with Lin and raised an eyebrow at how exhausted and sweaty he was.

Did they really climb the stairs all the way up here or something else happened along the way?

’’Very bad of you for not even checking up on your boss as well. What kind of employee are you?’’ Berry teased along the way and Lin almost broke down in tears for his sassy fruit to have mercy on him.

’’I just took a bunch of stairs from the ground to the top floor of this building,’’ Lin cried out in defense. ’’I’m sure Boss would want me to rest well here before I pass out.’’

’’She is not heartless.’’

Berry’s eyes blazed with fire at his indirect insult.

’’What did you just say?’’

Stylie stared back at the door in worry as they exited the penthouse and walked towards one of the elevators.

Berry and Lin’s bickering continued in the background while Grim stood silently behind them, trying his best to keep his expression neutral. All he wanted was to see them off quickly so he could return. He had this lingering feeling that something bad was going to happen, leaving her all by herself without anyone there to watch over her. This was a building filled with demons. And unfortunately, not all the demons here he has full control over. The ones he has control over have made it clear one way or the other that they do not approve of his obsession for a mere human.

His hand tightened at his side as he waited patiently to get rid of them all quickly and return where he was most needed.

Soon after, the doors of the elevator responded with a light ding and opened, allowing them to step in one after another.

’’You are just so ridiculously petty, honestly, get a boyfriend soon.’’

Berry stared at him in disbelief, blinking at when he had become bold enough to remind her of her single life.

’’A boyfriend?’

She entered after Grim did, her eyes locked heatedly on the hardworking jerk!

Lin smirked and nodded boldly, not minding the consequences as he enjoyed teasing and getting a reaction from her.

’’Or a girlfriend. Any. And just stop noticing and picking up on every single thing that I do or don’t do.’’

Berry gasped loudly at him, stepping close enough to burn him with the heat of her flaring nostrils.

’’You are being quiet talkative today, aren’t you?’’ She gritted out. ’’Mind if I shut you up by pulling your tongue right out of your mouth?!’’

For the first time, since the beginning of their little feud, Grim moved his eyes slowly in surprise at Berry. This was the first time he saw her threaten anybody or lose her cool.

His eyes softened as they settled on her. He found it slightly attractive when she got offended. Lin looked away, hiding his blush at her words. Stylie only shook her head as she entered and pressed the command to have the door closed.

Before it did, she stared briefly at the direction leading towards the penthouse.

I hope this would buy her enough time to at least make a move and leave that place.

We would be waiting for you outside, Boss.

Take care.

The door closed with Berry rolling her eyes and turning away from Lin in anger.

Suddenly, everywhere became awfully still and quiet.

Did he leave with them?

Corrine was unsure and did not want to risk opening her eyes for him to notice that she had been awake all this time and pretending to still be unconscious for hours now to avoid him.

She decided not to risk it but when it became so eerily still that she couldn’t even feel his burning eyes on her anymore, she opened one eye and observed first.

Thankfully, there was enough lightning to see clearly some parts of the room. She slowly rolled onto her other side and waited just enough to open her other eyes and observed again.

Corrine jumped up, taking in a deep breath of surprise when the entire room was empty.

There were no signs of him or any of those demons that came to wash, clean and feed her.

Her gaze swept around the room to find where he had been sitting to write all day empty too.

Corrine almost burst into tears of relief before making her way out of the bed quickly.

But then she paused and her eyes flickered over to the door that led to the bathroom and her heart stopped.

What if he was just...in there and he would be out anytime soon?

She thought about it for a while and...well, fuck it.

She scrambled out of the bed quickly, and began to move and plan her way to escape this madness at once.

If she wasn’t that deep in her dreams enough to imagine Stylie and Berry’s voice moments ago, then she had to leave this place quickly and find them somehow for them to help her.

How did they even become close enough to know about this place before her?

Could it be that they all knew what he was and all secretly agreed and planned to keep it from her?

She thought about it deeply but shook her head quickly not to assume things yet.

There was probably a reasonable explanation to how they all seemed to locate where he lived so easily. And if she was hearing correctly, they all treated him like he was normal when he wasn’t...

Corrine froze in her tracks when she stumbled out of the living room and heard footsteps approaching the door.

Her heart pounded as the eerie silence around her became overwhelming. Hell, she moved on the tip of her toes with a very transparent and armless nightwear, looking so disheveled and confused she didn’t know what to do next. Corrine whimpered when the footsteps paused behind the main door and someone began to swipe in the passcode to open it.

Corrine gulped, her hair swaying behind her as she looked for the best place to hide.

She dashed across the length of the large living room, almost slipping on the polished floors and ducked quickly behind a giant, golden flower vase with large golden leaves and held her breath.

’’Sir Azazel is very kind but I prefer Sir Luc. He is so dreamy and hot, I sometimes envision us both naked in the bathtub, doing dirty things in the water until nightfall.’’

One female demon chuckled as they filed into the room in groups. Corrine peeked from the giant flower vase in the dark and was able to make a quick head count.

Phew. They were just the caretakers of this place.

Corrine sighed, while being careful not to be seen by any of them. She stared at each of their weird appearances, taking note of their different dialects and composure and wondered if all of them were demons as well...or..something else.

One even had a dark pink skin for crying out loud!

One had snakes crawling like worms on her head and hissing silently in the dark. Thankfully, they were so engrossed in their lewd fantasies to realize that they didn’t bother closing the door.

It was wide open!

As if calling out to her to run through the wide opening and embrace freedom.

God must be feeling kind to me today.

She noticed and waited patiently until the group of demons had disappeared completely down a corridor that must lead to one of the many rooms in this big place. One demon even carried a silver laundry basket in her arms as she moved silently behind the group with a smile on her face.

When she was patient enough that their laughter and voice faded into mere distant echoes, Corrine made her move. This time, she wasn’t being stealthy about it. She ran past the chairs and table, not minding if she would be so loud enough to alert the monsters in the same space with her.

Who would have thought her creepy intern also turned out to be a freak like them?!

A mutant that made even breathing in the same space as him so difficult.

’’Ah!’

Corrine stumbled several feet behind when she collided with something hard as she ran down the corridor toward her freedom. She moved while staring back to make sure she wasn’t being followed or anything.

Corrine moaned in pain and rubbed her forehead gently the moment she regained her balance before looking up quickly to see what she had just bumped into.

Her entire world stilled and tilted at an awkward angle when she locked eyes with him.

Beside her, lightning tore the sky apart, raising her fears to the peak to realize she had been caught by...him.

For a moment, she took slow cautious steps back, her feet trembling as she did and her eyes widened at the danger before her then paused when he did nothing but to stare at her.

Like he was once again surprised to see her running.

As if she would have learned to behave and lie on his bed forever and be his captive.

He looked even more dangerous with the way he stared at her calmly, his golden eyes pinned on her like a dart at the center of a board and like a patient predator waiting for the right moment to strike.

How did she even leave...had she been awake this whole time?

Grim’s golden eyes moved gently on her, looking impressed by her intelligence and brave acting skills. She was so good enough to convince him that she was still unwell.

His eyes narrowed ever so slightly. The space between them wasn’t enough to guarantee that he wouldn’t catch her if she turned back and ran in the opposite direction. But at this point, she didn’t care anymore.

She wanted to leave and she would do just that.

And as if luck itself was also on board with her plan, her eyes moved to notice the single elevator staying calmly by her right, calling her and giving her another chance to escape.

When she stared at him again, looking much more nervous than before...Grim cast her an amused eyebrow.

She was too adorable when she tried to make sure it wasn’t obvious what she thought next.

So, he played along.

She had been in that room for quite some time now. It was only normal for her to want to move about and have her fun.

He owned this place afterall. So, she could move freely around without having to sneak around like a cat or anything.

When she saw he remained on that spot just calmly watching her without doing anything...Corrine only grew more indecisive about what she wanted to do.

Was he seeing her and letting her escape just like this?

What was wrong with him?

What was he doing?

Will he chase if I make a move or turn into that scary thing again and devour me whole?

Well...fuck it, again!

She gasped, turning on her heels and ran quickly towards the elevator. His eyes followed her every move before turning around slowly on that same spot.

The elevator answered her call even though she assaulted the button with multiple slaps of her finger. It opened and she stepped inside calmly, without looking back, she pressed another button. And the door slid closed gently after a second.

Grim did nothing but to flash her an adoring smile, tilting his head a bit. He stood before the elevator long enough to decide whether he should go after her or not.
