Too Late For Regrets: I Sold My Soul To The New Intern
Chapter 115: Red Flags 1
’’Your Royal Highness, they haven’t given up on their purpose here, as you suspected.’’
’’Yesterday, my demons reported some suspicious movements a few miles from the demon tower.’’
’’They were demons like us, and we traced them back to where they came from and we found out that they were one of the many demonic spies sent out by this man,’’ Azazel handed Grim a photo of Neal Ashworth.
’’And it looks more like they are interested in knowing more about the human in this building.’’
Grim stared down at the photo. The resemblance struck him immediately, and he wondered if the creature had ever possessed any shame.
’’We dug further into the closest family members and friends of the human. We found out that this man in the photo is her father.’’ Azazel pulled out more photos and handed it over to Grim.
He stared at the other images and he couldn’t have been surprised since he had seen each one of them in his love memories. Their faces had all been deeply engraved in his memory. Sitting and waiting till when the opportunity comes for him to take out his anger on them.
Azazel watched as the pictures crumbled and folded in Grim’s tight grip. It burned and curled, reducing to ash beneath their feat.
It was already nighttime, and Grim had decided on one thing.
He turned toward the world twinkling below beneath the starless sky.
’’We found out that the miss rarely had any friends who gave her trouble. Most of her opposition in life seemed to have come from her immediate family and some members of her extended family as well.’’
Grim said nothing as he slowly pulled his hands behind him. Standing on his bare feet beside the transparent walls. His hair, now loose, fell over his shoulders, its length extending past his waist. His face was cold and dead serious.
His lips tight as he recalled the pieces of her memories he was fortunate enough to see and know.
Azazel didn’t know how to say the next thing but it was part of his job and mission to report every single detail of his investigation to him.
’’During our investigation of her past and family ties with our systems, magic and other useful demon artifacts, we discovered that her family weren’t that kind to her.’’
’’I know.’’ The prince of hell said, breaking the ice.
Azazel blinked in confusion. If His Royal Highness had known about this, then why did he bother them with digging deep into her past and identifying every close or distant member that shared the same blood with the human.
Azazel’s eyes furrowed a bit at the prince. He looked to be deep in thought.
Why was he even carrying out a secret investigation on her past and family life?
The human was alive and healthy again.
He could have just asked her all about her past and miserable existence.
Though, why does his prince care anyway in knowing every single form of life that has hurt that seductress in the past and present and taking notes of them?
Could he be planning to...?
’’I just wanted to know if I am not being played with by the divine being,’’ Grim confessed and turned slowly to face his loyal hell hound. Azazel found himself straightening the moment his golden eyes fell on him.
He looked exhausted. It was evident in the way the light in his eyes seemed to dim with every passing moment.
And he has never seen that look on his face before until that seductress made her way into his life.
He was doing so much for her yet getting little to nothing in return from her.
The image of her walking out on him this afternoon when he asked if she was interested in seeing how he avenged all those involved in her death still made him furious.
He so much wanted to cut her head off right when she stood up and made his prince feel foolish for even asking that much from her.
Azazel wanted so badly...his knuckles whitened the more pressure he applied on his curled fingers.
He wanted so badly to teach her a lesson and make her understand that his prince and master was definitely not a pushover.
’’I received a memory pill from that divine being during Anais resurrection.’’
Azazel stared briefly, nodding his head as he remembered that moment.
’’I can’t just fully believe whatever that pill showed me of how her life was before and after I came in until I checked. The suspicious movements of those demons you detected in the compound since her rebirth also confirms a lot that my Anais isn’t safe until I get rid of all these external factors.’’
Even if his head fell a bit in understanding, Azazel’s heart remained cold and his mind hostile towards that seductress.
Why?
He asked himself once again.
Why her?
What exactly does she have that the other incubi in Hell don’t have, something worth all this stress and sarcrifice?
Azazel stared up at his prince again and blinked at his perfect appearance even while looking slightly dishevealed.
No one could get over his appearance.
And to think that this lowly mortal from nowhere, with at most sixty more years left in this world would get to have all this to herself.
His good looks and charms.
His pure heart and nature.
His loyalty and soft-heartedness....
No...
Azazel shook his head.
She doesn’t deserve any of this.
’’She isn’t safe as long as those demons are still out there. And very much interested in using and tearing her into pieces. I won’t let them have their way with her ever again.’’
His face hardened with determination.
’’They all won’t be alive anymore to bother her ever again.’’
Azazel’s forest green gaze lit up in alarm.
’’Where she exists, they don’t deserve to be.’’
His eyes widened in horror at what his young prince had in mind to do.
’’This second chance would only be worth living for after I get rid of them.’’
’’They hunt her down day and night as if she is just a mere prey they are waiting to consume. They gave her an abnormal childhood and she had always been lonely from the beginning.’’
Azazel parted his lips as he had something to say to this before his royal highness committed a great sin.
His own words resonated deeply within him. Her unfortunate background and the ill-fated relationship he had with his own parents looked so similar to his.
He felt like he was the best person to understand her pain and struggle the most. What it means to have your own flesh and blood become your enemy.
She didn’t get to choose which kind of parents she wished to have.
And neither did he.
But it was an awful experience they both had to deal with.
They were both left with two choices to either accept the ill treatments from them and slowly die within or choose life, fight back and win.
He has decided to be the one who was going to fight back on her behalf.
In his eyes, she would not truly be free to live again as long as those monsters remained a threat to her existence.
’’Not anymore,’’ he said and Azazel quickly tried to warn him of the consequences of going up against beings who had direct ties to his own father.
They dug deeper into the background and ancestry ties the human’s father had with the early set of reptilians sent on earth a long time ago by the devil himself to kill and destroy.
It was a perfect bloody match.
It surprised him that the human turned out to be...well, fully human like her mother and have no trace of reptilian blood within her.
’’But, Your Royal Highness. I would advise you not doing anything that will stir up trouble with your father, my liege.’’
The word father annoyed Grim the most. He turned slowly to Azazel who stumbled back by a step, not faring if he crossed a line or said something he shouldn’t have.
Anything that will include the wrath or backlash of the devil himself, it was his job to keep the young prince from offending the devil.
A job bestowed onto him by his mother.
Azazel stared at him, eyes wide and pleading for his prince to consider himself for once.
’’The word father to me died when he tried to kill me on the day that I was born.’’
’’B–b–but, Your Highness. This man, her father, is a direct descendant of the group of reptiles the red dragon sent to earth on a special mission. He is in charge of ruining this generation of mankind and that human in your bedroom is being groomed for the next one!’’ Azazel pleaded back. Grim stared back at the demon in disbelief.
’’Hell, we aren’t even sure if she is fully human like the rest of the world out there!’’ he argued back, trying his best to knock some sense into him.
But his cries and pleas all fell on deaf ears. Love and his obsession had taken over, clouding all reasonable thoughts and throwing caution to the wind.
Azazel couldn’t imagine what the devil would do to him if he found out that his son was interfering with his business.
Hell, it could even be misinterpreted as an act of rebellion or war against the great and terrible red dragon.
Why am I the only one seeing the red flags in all of this?! Azazel cried out within.
’’Anais is human.’’
Grim argued back with firm affirmation. As if he had run all the possible tests and strongly debunked all theories that might argue otherwise.
’’But your royal highness...’’
Grim pushed forward with a step. Azazel fell back as the serpent’s expression changed into a look of crazed possessiveness.
’’Anais...is...human.’’
Azazel gasped out loud in disbelief.
This is it.
She already has an unbreakable grip on him now.
He was already in too deep.
There was no coming out of her wicked web of destruction.
