Too Late For Regrets: I Sold My Soul To The New Intern
Chapter 105: Serve Me
Corrine decided on one thing after that.
She turned on the taps and washed her face and rinsed her mouth with some of the water.
She heard the door of the room opening and stilled to listen to who just barged in.
For a moment she wondered why she thought it was him.
Maybe he had come to check on her since it seemed as though he couldn’t breathe properly without knowing whether she was all right.
But she was disappointed when she knew who it was.
’’Miss?’’
Corrine sighed and turned off the tap before stepping out of the restroom.
’’Miss? Miss Corrine?’’
Corrine walked over to the demon she had saved from being harassed further yesterday and tapped her gently from behind.
Alve jumped but relaxed when it was just the person she had been looking everywhere for.
Corrine noticed how the demon eased into a smile. It made her feel like they were less terrified or wary of each other and becoming close.
’’What are you doing here? And how are you feeling after...’’
’’Oh, I feel great! Thank you once again for saving my life yesterday! Alveerah is eternally grateful to you and she is ready to serve you during your stay here.’’
Alve bowed her head, feeling too enthusiastic about serving and being close to her.
Corrine wondered what her name meant and if it was a name with a single e or a double.
’’Serve...me?’’
Alve raised her head quickly enough for the long strands of her hair to move and become a mess all over her face.
’’Yes, miss! Fortunately, His Royal Highness met with the head of staff this morning and assigned me to be your personal maid throughout your stay here!’’
She said as if it was the best thing in the world to her.
’’He said and I quote, My Anais deserves the best but at the same time someone I can trust not to hold any evil intentions towards her.’’
’’He said that?’’ Corrine asked with a slight raise of her eyebrow before moving over to the bed slowly.
Alve blinked and smiled sheepishly, ’’Well...it sounded something like that. But we were all examined by him earlier today...,’’ she said with pride and Corrine watched the demon with quiet interest. No one would believe she was also a monster like the rest of the things that lurked in this building.
Corrine instantly loved her energy. It reminded her so much about Berry.
’’He asked and I quote,’’ she cleared her throat as if trying to mimic the voice of Grim. ’’What makes you think I wouldn’t separate your head from your body once I trust you with the wellbeing of my Anais?’’
She paused, smiling as if reliving the very moment. Corrine got more comfortable on the bed as she listened to the lively demon speak. Strangely, hearing her talk and just being around her was enough to take her mind off a lot of things and feel strangely at rest.
Hell, she even had a small smile on her face.
’’Others gave ridiculous and shallow answers that cost them their heads within minutes. Well, I have got to experience firsthand how important you are to His Majesty so I answered correctly. I used my wisdom and gave him a satisfying answer and he stared at me so intently enough for me to nearly pass out a few times within before he finally made me the head of every servant now assigned to take care of all your needs,’’ she concluded with a proud smile, moving to stand on the tip of her toes briefly in excitement.
Corrine took a while to observe her. She was adorable. Too adorable to be living in a place like this.
No wonder those hell rats seek to bully and take advantage of her.
’’I am so happy that I found a way to brag about it to the other maids here,’’ she continued before turning to the trolley she brought with her.
Corrine instantly sat up at the mouth watering smell of food that warmed her nostrils. The trolley had three sections. The top contained breakfast and the other two had essentials for her to clean up and fresh clothes to change into.
’’They were so mad they tried to make me fall several times. But I am already sharp enough to see through all their evil schemes.’’
Corrine returned her smile when she faced her with one.
’’Now, since I am in charge of making sure you are comfortable...no, perfectly comfortable here and I have a head to preserve just in case I mess up.’’
’’I made a very light breakfast for you. Though I wasn’t too sure what is the most edible to a freshly recovered human like you so I made everything that I researched about all morning.’’
’’Oh.’’ Corrine said.
’’Also, I brought new clothes and undies for you to change into today. I want to give you a bubble bath since I heard it’s one of your kind’s favourite ways to relax.’’
Corrine was too overwhelmed by her diligence to say anything but to nod and smile at her.
’’Don’t worry, His Royal Highness has already prepared an entire wardrobe for you and it’s on its way.’’
A new wardrobe of clothes...?
Does he think I have agreed to stay here with him?
’’How did he know my sizes or anything?’’ She asked, freezing Alve in place. An awkward or tense silence issued between them. Alve looked the most lost as she tried to think of a reasonable excuse. Her lips mushed together as she thought hard about it.
’’I’m not sure...but His Highness is very smart and unlike the rest of us. I figured he probably guessed it all with a single glance at you?’’
It was harder to even fake a smile.
He knew my size from a single glance?
Another chill rattled her spine, freezing her in place as she sat on the bed looking tense.
’’I will get you changed and cleaned up then we have breakfast together!’’
’’Breakfast...together?’’
’’Hmm,’’ Alve smiled with an assuring nod.
’’Oh, before I forget, I have scribbled down all the passcodes leading in and out of this place like I promised,’’ the incubus turned to pull out a neat piece of folded paper before handling it over to her.
Corrine collected the piece and opened it slowly as she read all the scribbled down passcodes and numbers.
But one particular passcode stood out the most to her. The one that opened the front door of this place.
7 A 18 N 9 A 13 I S.
She stared at the code and felt a hard lump form at the back of her throat.
A N A I S
Corrine put the paper away quickly and gulped.
