’’I had it burned down a while ago.’’

He said just when she believed he couldn’t be much worse than marking her without her consent.

But what did he mean by, ’’I had it burned down a while ago?’’

What did he mean?

Was it my apartment that he had burned down, or...?

’’You won’t ever see me again in your life after that. I want to make this life better than the previous one you had.’’

He paused when he said nothing but to give him that look.

’’Until then...’’

He left.

He left her in the middle of nowhere, standing on the roadside in the dead of night, soaking wet and vulnerable.

The prince of hell walked inside looking drained, heartbroken and in slight shock to hear her say he suffocated her.

’’Your Majesty!’’ Azazel approached him quickly after he was a few steps away from the main entrance. Inside was cold but his heart was freezing. He replayed everything in his mind. His actions from the moment he met her until now.

’’How exactly have I...suffocated her?’’

Azazel still bowed respectfully beside the serpent blinked and stared up at his prince not catching the words he was mumbling to himself.

’’Did you say something, Your Highness?’’ he asked in concern but the demonlord already has a knowing feeling that it had to do with that seductress!

He stared at the main door. She was nowhere in sight.

He scoffed within.

Women.

So very expected of her.

She had used him, discarded him after getting everything she wanted, and left him with a bleeding heart.

He would not be surprised if he found out that the mortal was without any moral decency or conscience to be able to do whatever she must have done to break his prince like that.

I must do something quickly about this.

Or else...

’’Azazel.’’

His heart sank immediately when the prince of hell called out to him. The demonlord’s face softened as he stared up at the demon prince once more and answered, ’’Yes, Your Royal Highness.’’

Grim hesitated for a while. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to be feeling this way. But his Anais has been tempting him, pushing all his red buttons and teasing him so many times with her disappearance.

She looked so eager to be done with him.

Or maybe she never truly wanted anything to do with him from the start.

The mere thought of it pained him and he thought what else was he supposed to do to keep the woman he loved by his side?

Just until he had done everything he wanted to do for her and then she would be able to leave freely and continue her life.

Without him.

Stab.

His hands curled slowly into tight fists.

’’What will you do if you have a favourite thing in the world,’’ he began slowly, turning his head until he faced his loyal sidekick with tears moving in his eyes. ’’And the favourite thing keeps trying to leave.’’

Azazel gave him a puzzling look.

’’You’ve tried...everything you could possibly do and even things you thought you couldn’t do, but...’’ A tear slipped as it ached so much with what he wanted to say next.

’’It never stays or realizes how much you cherish it.’’

It was then clear to Azazel who or what the favourite thing was.

’’What will you do to ensure it stays by your side no matter what?’’

The demonlord blinked and rose to his full height beside the ancient being troubled by a one sided feeling. One that shouldn’t have happened in the first place if he was much more observant and has gotten rid of that witch a long time ago.

Azazel’s green gaze darkened and turned seriously towards the prince.

This was his moment.

A rare chance for him to talk freely and ensure they never got back together ever again.

He would stir up a fire between them that can never be quenched by his obsession for her or the witch’s cunning and seductive ways.

He was ready. Finally, he would save his master from being looked down on and hurt further by the mortal witch.

If he doesn’t succeed at first, there will be many chances to cause their parting. And he would be that essential roadblock that will make reunion impossible ever again.

’’Your Royal Highness,’’ he began in a confident tone as he made his face unreadable before the serpent.

’’If I ever had a favourite thing in this world, that I cherish more than my life and my love for it surpasses all reason and understanding or thought,’’ he continued in a bland tone, feigning ignorance at the underlying meaning to Grim’s words. ’’I would either get rid of it because my attachment to it would come at the cost of my peace of mind...’’

Grim’s gaze darkened at the demonlord. It made a trickle of sweet slide down the demonlord’s face as he remained rigid and composed under that burning look.

Then with so much bravery that needed to be studied... ’’Or...’’

Azazel looked up and locked eyes with the serpent.

’’I give it no other reason to want to ever leave me.’’

He said in a way that caused dark ripples over the still water. The demonlord might look cold and detached at times but he could sometimes be that deadly green snake hidden beneath the tall grass. All you just needed was to give that snake an opportunity to bite. He would bite so hard it would leave you gaping in awe and pain.

’’Meaning?’’ Grim moved around completely until he faced the demon lord giving him wrong and terrible advice. But the advice wasn’t wrong when it could be the only way to keep her safe and to himself long enough until...

’’Your Majesty,’’ Azazel sighed before deciding to be more direct. He would love to see his master hurt that seductress in ways he was one hundred percent sure would hurt and she would never step foot in his life ever again.

’’What I am trying to say is that...I love that thing very much but it refuses to love me back,’’ those green eyes flickered around briefly until it returned mischievously on Grim.

’’I would simply just take everything else she loves instead. And if that seemed too harsh or inconvenient. If staying by my side is what matters the most, there can be other things around that can compete with me for its attention, then, I would just ensure that whenever it tries to run from me...it has no where else in this world to hide or run to.’’

A low rumble of thunder made his answer sound more diabolical than it should. Azazel slowly raised his eyes towards the demon before him. Watching him closely to see what his response will be.

He only hoped his obsession for her run that deeply like he imagined it was to consider his reply and act on it.

Nothing hurts more than watching something you have spent so long trying to control suddenly break free from its leash to bite back in a way no one will expect. In a way that will forever sever the ill bond and relationship between them.

Maybe then his master wouldn’t be compelled to give up his life wing to save nobody.

’’...no where to hide or run to...’’ Grim repeated as he turned the other way slowly.

Grim smirked.

He loved the idea.

Not that he would ever dare burn down her very world he wanted to make a better.

But...

His eyes gleamed as he thought of something else that was brilliant. He thought about it deeply and decided.

There was no harm in making her believe there was really nothing waiting out there for her to run to, was there?

He would make her believe until she stays.

A look of satisfaction lit up his face and Azazel was ready to do whatever it takes to burn that witch and everything else that she loves and holds dear.

He would only get rid of the bad things and protect her from the worst, but to ensure her stay here with him and where he could love and protect her the most, he has to be convincing enough that the good things she left behind was no more.
