This Heroine's Friend Has the Power of Botany
Chapter 61: The Number One Troublemaker
Chapter 61
The Number One Troublemaker
"The weapon that the eldest young lord is currently developing is still in the confidential stage. Only a few people know about the eldest young lord’s condition. Therefore, mass production of the weapon is not possible at the moment. Moreover, the family head has decided to keep the eldest young lord’s abilities a secret. Otherwise, the royal family might do everything in their power to turn the eldest young lord into one of their own."
Koross provided additional information. The fact that their eldest young lord possessed such immense power was certainly a boon for the Setter family. However, would this be considered a good thing for others? Perhaps they might view the eldest young lord as someone from whom they could extract the most benefit, or worse, as someone who needed to be eliminated quickly.
Although the Setter family was indeed a large family, their eldest young lord was not yet strong enough to reveal all his abilities. The mere fact that the eldest young lord possessed the element of pure lightning already drew a lot of attention. Even when news spread that he was gravely ill and might die at any moment, there were still many enemies who wanted to attack him to death. So, if it became known that the eldest young lord had recovered, who knew how many would want to take action against him?
If the Setter family were to gain the support of the eldest young lord, other families would become nothing but specks of dust, unable to ever catch up!
"Those selfish royals! It’s obvious they still have a young princess. As long as my brother recovers or can provide some benefit, they will certainly force this marriage to happen," Aman sneered as he spoke about it.
While his brother was gravely ill, the royal family extorted many of their treasures. If it weren’t for their father’s and the entire family’s high hopes for Brother Owen, he might have been left to die.
Luckily, and even more fortunately, his brother met the young girl, Ellie, just in time...
"In fact, my brother wants to give you a weapon to protect you from demonic beasts. However, possessing such a weapon might attract the attention of those hiding in the shadows. Therefore, we, the Setter family, decided to inform you of this and to advise you to be very cautious. Even though you don’t possess a special weapon, the Lightning Shield my brother gave you should be enough to keep you safe."
"Above all, I will secretly protect you as well, as long as you don’t try to hide from me," Aman said seriously. After the unexpected events earlier, Aman was determined to stay closer to Ellie and not let her face danger alone again.
The young girl looked at Aman with suspicion. Being more cautious was indeed necessary. Today, she had been careless. If she had used the power of the purple mushroom to check the area around the tent, she would have detected the abnormality. However, her complacency arose from trusting the novel’s storyline too much. Who would have thought that the hidden demonic beast would leap into the camp and cause such trouble?
Demonic beasts, though not very intelligent, must know which places were safe or not. According to the original storyline, it took the heroine a long time to find and track down the hiding demonic beast. Ellie never thought that such an event would occur within the first 2 days of their arrival here.
However, Aman saying he would follow her more closely was the real problem. Nowadays, many people were already gossiping about her and Aman. Some even claimed she had become Aman’s lover, thus attracting considerable attention from the Setter family. Being the focal attention wouldn’t be an issue if Aman wasn’t someone with more enemies than friends!
"Just having Koross help from a distance is enough. Lord Aman, please continue with your duties," Ellie immediately refused his good intentions.
"Do you still expect anything from Koross? Last time, he almost put you in danger, and this time he was too foolish to act correctly. If it weren’t for my intervention, he might have let the demonic beast escape, causing even more trouble for you later," Aman interjected, unwilling to relent.
Why should he let a woman important to his brother be under someone else’s care!?
"I won’t make the same mistake next time," Koross, too, showed no signs of giving up, even though the person in front of him was Lord Aman. He had direct orders from the family head and the eldest young lord to perform this duty. True, he hadn’t acted in time, but Koross believed that if the demonic beast appeared again, he could handle it for sure.
The two young men stared at each other intensely. If this were an anime, Ellie might have seen sparks flying between them.
"Sigh, go ahead and settle this between yourselves. I need to go help the apothecary now." Ellie, not wanting to listen to their quarrel any longer, stood up and prepared to leave, letting the two men bicker on their own.
However, Aman still had one more thing to discuss with Ellie, so he quickly blocked her path.
"Wait, I still have something to say to you."
"?" Seeing Ellie stop to listen, Aman got straight to the point.
"I think you should stay away from the man of the Femon family."
"You mean “Wint”?" Ellie raised her eyebrows. How did the knight suddenly come into this conversation? It didn’t seem like Wint and Aman would even know each other.
"Yes, that fool. You shouldn’t be around the fool too much, or you might catch their stupidity." Aman’s analysis about Wint nearly made Ellie burst out laughing.
"I don’t think I could get close to someone like that either."
"Is that so? Didn’t he say he wanted to be your partner for life?... Even though those words came from a fool, he’s still a fool from the Femon family. Your status is no longer just a girl from a rural village. You’re someone the Setter family is interested in now."
"It wouldn’t be surprising if the Femon family tried to use this opportunity to pair you with their illegitimate son. After all, he’s not of much significance to their family anyway," Aman reasoned logically.
"I won’t let that happen." It wasn’t clear if Ellie was addressing Aman or herself. She knew she couldn’t be with someone like Wint; otherwise, she’d lose her sanity one day.
A man like Wint, with a fighting spirit, wasn’t bad, but his bluntness was rather unsettling. Even so...Ellie felt that none of the main characters in the story were people she wanted to be around.
Thinking about this, she casted a skeptical glance at Aman, as if to say that...not only Wint but also Aman was someone she didn’t want to build a relationship with!
That look made Aman pause for a moment. He sneered, as if mocking Ellie’s dirty thoughts.
"You don’t need to look at me like that. I don’t intend to make you my wife either. You’re useful to my brother. If you need a partner, it should only be him." Hearing this, Ellie’s skin crawled even more.
"I don’t want that either. Your brother attracts too much danger. If I marry him, he might die before we even get to the wedding night." Ellie recalled the storyline where Owen received the Tezetrons flower from the heroine, only to die shortly afterward. It was a tragic, but true, event that would occur.
"That’s why you’re perfect for him. With your ability to make the Tezetrons tree grow, do you think you’re not dangerous?" Aman glanced at Ellie, as if he wanted to return that harsh remark to her.
"I think it’s better if we let the eldest young lord himself discusses these matters with Lady Ellie..." Koross interjected, seeing that the conversation had veered off track. He believed it’s no longer related to their original purpose of visiting Lady Ellie since Aman started talking about the eldest young lord’s fiancée.
Though Lady Ellie seemed suitable for the eldest young lord, the eldest young lord wasn’t someone interested in marriage or having a partner. For him...just spending time with the family took up all his time; where would he find time to concern himself with such matters?
"You’re right. The issue of your engagement to my brother should be discussed directly with him. However...you should also heed my warning...Stay away from the illegitimate son of the Femon family before any trouble arises," Aman warned one last time before he and Koross left.
Ellie could sense the concern from this Setter family demon. Thus, she took his well-meaning advice to heart. But who would have thought that the fool from the Femon family would cause Ellie more trouble than expected!
"Ellie, have you finished today’s work?" The young man with a smiling face waited for her at the entrance of Head Apothecary Celey’s tent for the 3rd day in a row. Since he declared he wanted her as his partner, he had been pestering her like this.
"I told you not to talk to me unless necessary, didn’t I?" Ellie glared at him with displeasure. Wint’s body was covered in dirty stains. His punishment wasn’t over yet, so he still had to continue working with Nara.
But after finishing his work, instead of cleaning himself up, Wint waited for Ellie every day. This behavior over the past 3 days had caused rumors to spread about Wint pursuing Ellie.
On the first day he arrived, Wint was entangled with his bed partner, Nara, a Light Element scholarship student, causing a commotion. Just one day later...he shifted his attention to chasing after Ellie, another Botanic Element scholarship student[PL1] . Consequently, many people began talking about Wint’s strange preferences. Some said he liked poor students, while others claimed he deceived rural girls. Regardless...Aria and other women’s attitudes towards Ellie had noticeably changed. Although they hadn’t caused her trouble yet, Ellie believed it wouldn’t be long before she faced attacks similar to what Nara had experienced!
"I’ve already told you, for the rest of my life, I will follow you everywhere," Wint declared confidently, but his words created huge trouble!
"What was that! Was that a marriage proposal?"
"Is the Femon family’s young lord asking that scholarship student to be his wife?"
"What about the girl he took to sleep in the same tent before? What does this mean?"
"These scholarship students have high ambitions these days. She probably wants to change her status from lower class to upper class. How bold."
"Are we going to see two scholarship students fighting each other?"
"Isn’t Wint already engaged? He hasn’t officially canceled the engagement, yet he’s asking someone else to marry him? How could he do such a shameless thing!"
"I thought this scholarship student wouldn’t be like her friend, but it turns out..."
"Isn’t she getting attention from the Setter family too? Now she’s casting her charm on the young lord of the Femon family. Is it because she couldn’t manipulate the Setter family that she turned to the Femon family?"
Many people, especially the students at the institution, were talking about this. Ellie felt a headache coming on. She had made it clear many times that she didn’t want to be involved with Wint, but this stubborn man didn’t realize that his thoughtless actions were causing problems for others!
Ellie wasn’t his heroine, nor was she Nara, who would endure these things because she admired him. She was a former office worker and knew that attracting too much attention was a path to disaster! Now, disaster was coming in the form of “Wint.”
"Oh! Did I hear that correctly? The illegitimate son of the esteemed Femon family is proposing to a girl from the countryside?" Aria’s arrogant and disdainful voice rang out from the side, making Ellie realize immediately that she was about to face major trouble.
