The Smiling Death
Chapter 587: I’M ANGRY RIGHT NOW
"So... you have a System."
Amon tried to calm himself down, but his voice carried a strange tension.
"Yes."
Arnold nodded. "But... how do you know about it?"
"That’s not important." Amon shook his head and looked away.
He was shocked. He was beyond shocked. Of all things, it had to be a System.
Amon had lived another life before this one. He had read countless stories about reincarnation, transmigration, and people being transported into other worlds.
And almost every protagonist had something special. A System, a cheat ability. Some ridiculous power that allowed them to grow stronger at an absurd rate.
And now, after coming to this world himself, Amon had secretly wondered countless times whether he would receive one too. But no, not him, Arnold had gotten the System.
Meanwhile, Amon had been forced to struggle for every bit of his strength. He had fought monsters, nearly died countless times, trained until his body ached, and risked his life to obtain the power he possessed today.
And this bastard had a System?
’This is injustice.’
Amon clenched his fists. He took a deep breath.
"Sigh..."
He tried to suppress his irritation. "Okay. So you have a System..."
He looked back at Arnold. "And why are you telling me thi—"
Amon suddenly stopped. His expression changed. The playful look disappeared from his face. His eyes slowly narrowed. Something had clicked inside his mind.
His thoughts began moving faster and faster. ’Wait.’
A good-for-nothing young master of the Bigod family. For years, Arnold had been considered practically useless. He had possessed neither remarkable talent nor ambition.
Yet suddenly he had changed. His abilities had improved. His behavior had changed. His growth had become far too rapid.
Amon had actually considered this possibility before. ’What if he possesses some kind of hidden treasure?’
Or perhaps what if he has a System? At the time, Amon had dismissed the thought as nothing more than speculation.
But now? He had the answer.
Amon’s eyes became colder. His memories began resurfacing one after another.
The first request Arnold had ever made of him. He had asked Amon to travel to Mistvale Town with Selena in his place. At the time, Amon hadn’t thought much of it.
But after arriving there. Everything had gone wrong. People had died. Countless innocent people. Children and families, people Amon couldn’t save.
And, most painfully of all, his two seniors, Vixra and Jareth, had died in front of him.
Amon’s fists tightened. Then there was the second time. The academy airship had been attacked. They had been chasing an enemy when Arnold had thrown him into the portal.
At the time, Amon had thought it was simply a desperate decision during a chaotic situation.
But now he wondered, ’Was that really a coincidence?’
Amon slowly raised his head. His eyes locked onto Arnold.
"Huh?"
Arnold noticed the sudden change in his expression.
"Amon...?"
Amon didn’t answer. He simply stared at him. The shadow beneath his feet began to move. It crawled upward like living liquid, wrapping around his legs before flowing toward his right hand.
Darkness gathered. The black substance condensed. It solidified and slowly formed the shape of a sword.
A blade of pure darkness emerged in Amon’s hand. Its surface seemed to swallow the surrounding light, while a dense layer of shadow coiled around it.
Arnold’s eyes widened.
"Amon—!"
He barely had time to react.
Amon swung the sword.
SHING!
The blade tore through the air.
Arnold’s mana exploded outward. He immediately lunged backward, narrowly avoiding the strike.
BOOM!
The ground where he had been standing shattered. Cracks spread across the earth as chunks of stone and dirt were blasted into the air.
A cloud of dust erupted around them.
Arnold landed several meters away and stared at Amon in disbelief.
"What the fuck?!" His expression twisted with confusion. "Why are you attacking me?!"
Amon slowly raised his head through the dust. His eyes were filled with anger.
"You!"
His voice echoed through the forest. "You sent me to Mistvale Town because the System told you to, didn’t you?!"
Arnold froze. His eyes trembled. He couldn’t say anything. That hesitation was enough. Amon’s expression darkened further.
"And another thing..." His grip tightened around the black sword. "Last year, when our academy airship was attacked..."
He took a step forward. "We were chasing an enemy at the time."
Amon’s eyes became cold. "Did you deliberately throw me into that portal?"
Arnold remained silent. "So that I would end up going through the portal the enemy had opened?"
The forest became eerily quiet. Arnold stood completely still like a statue.
Then, slowly he nodded.
"Yes."
Amon’s teeth clenched.
"I did it because of the System." Arnold admitted.
Amon’s breathing became heavier. Every memory from the past several months collided inside his mind.
Everything he had endured. Every suffering he went through. And now he knew that Arnold had played a part in it.
Amon’s anger surged. But there was something else. Something that made him even angrier.
Darkness suddenly erupted from beneath Arnold’s feet.Several black spikes shot toward him.
"Tch!"
Arnold clicked his tongue and immediately jumped backward. The spikes tore through the ground where he had been standing.
At the same time, Arnold reached into his storage ring. A sword appeared in his hand. Silver mana immediately surged across the blade.
The weapon began glowing brilliantly.
Arnold’s eyes slowly changed color. Their usual color faded, replaced by a brilliant silver radiance.
"Amon, listen!"
Arnold raised his sword.
"I know what I did was wrong, but—"
Amon vanished. Shadow flickered beneath his feet. In the next instant, he appeared directly in front of Arnold.
Clang!
Their swords collided. A burst of sparks exploded between them. The impact sent a shockwave through the surrounding trees, violently shaking the branches.
Amon’s face was twisted with rage.
"Well..."
He pushed his blade harder against Arnold’s.
"I’M ANGRY RIGHT NOW!"
With a powerful shove, Amon forced Arnold backward. Then he swung his sword horizontally.
A massive black arc of darkness tore through the air, spreading across the forest like a crescent-shaped blade.
Arnold’s expression sharpened. His silver mana surged. He raised his sword and brought it down in a powerful vertical strike.
