Chapter 55: Chapter 55 - 7 more left

I went back and waited until the healing slowly fixed me up.

Nyx now healed a little. Pain still remained, but she can use her arm now.

I didn’t wait. I pushed my body forward, clutched one of the swords I have, and plunged my sword into the other eye.

Nyx used ice spears and attacked the wolf. Not normal ones. She poured lots of mana into them.

The ice spears pierced through the wolf.

I let go of the sword that hit the eye of the wolf, summoned my other sword, and plunged it through its head.

And finally the wolf disappeared into thin air.

I fell to the ground and exhaled. "What kind of trials are these?"

Nyx nodded. "Hmm. But we can’t give up. This is the only path we have."

I smiled a wry smile. "Yeah. Only path, huh."

"Okay. Let’s go to the next floor and rest. It’s a good and bad thing this place doesn’t have time."

Nyx looked at me in confusion. "What do you mean?"

I just said, "Look at the people on the lower floors and the person we took the information from."

"Do they look new to this?"

I dragged out the wording and said in a grave voice, "Who knows when they came to this place. Look all around. We can’t see if it’s day or night. We sleep when we feel like it and get up the same way."

"No time. No deadline. Just a task we need to do no matter how much time it costs."

"Didn’t you notice that man when we arrived? He asked for our food like it was routine and said he got tired of the food the tower gives out."

Nyx thought about this a lot. She too understood there’s no concept of time here. It’s like a prison more than a mission.

Keep the prisoners indefinitely while giving them a task for freedom.

Her eyes narrowed and she thought to herself, Why didn’t I figure this out sooner?

I tapped her forehead. "Don’t think too much into it, Nyx. The less we know, the more freedom we have. We have a goal."

"Strive for it. Don’t just think about how we are held down and captured."

"If you go think about those things deeply, it only makes you weaker."

"Just achieve everything you can. Don’t think about other things."

"If we think about all of those, there are countless things you can compare. So just live your life."

"Let’s go and defeat those ugly monsters and get out from here. Don’t think too much into things."

She nodded, and we went to the upper floor. I took out another high healing potion and drank it.

Nyx did the same as me, and I went to her side and shamelessly put my head on her lap.

She got extremely surprised and instantly pushed me away.

I looked at her with a wounded expression and said, "Ah, how can you push away a pitiful injured person like me?"

I brushed off an imaginary tear.

She glared at me. She is flustered and amused at the same time. Her face is flushed.

"You scoundrel. Who is the pitiful one? I can’t see one."

Then I thought for a moment and nodded. "Hmm. That’s true."

She blinked, caught off guard, and asked, "What do you mean?"

I smirked at her and said, "Exactly what you said."

"I’m not pitiful. I’m such an amazing person, so how could I possibly be a pitiful person?"

Her eyes twitched, but I continued as if I didn’t see her reaction.

"I’m a man of many qualities, so how can I be a pitiful person? I’m a well-mannered, courageous person who is very dependable."

I looked at her twitching face and said, "See? Even you are amazed by my greatness."

She just looked at me speechlessly, then sighed and muttered under her breath, "More like I’m amazed by your shamelessness."

I grinned, looked at her, and asked, "What did you say, Nyx?"

She just said, "Nothing. Nothing at all."

I smiled brightly.

And she began, "So what do you have to say about shamelessly coming to my lap to sleep?"

Her face is red, but she still said it.

I looked at her innocently and said, "I’m just sleepy. That’s all."

"You are supposed to be my girlfriend, aren’t you?"

Her eyes twitched and she said, "Ahh, only in name..."

Then I looked at her and asked, "So that means you hate me?"

She just looked at me with a deadpan expression.

I laughed and said, "Okay, okay. You sleep first. Then I can sleep as well."

She thought for a moment and said, "No. You sleep. You seem to be more sleepy."

I felt myself, and I’m really sleepy, so I didn’t refuse. "Then thank you."

She nodded, so I asked, "That means I can sleep on your lap, right?"

She glared at me. I just raised my hand. "Oh, can’t you take a joke? It’s a joke."

Then I went to sleep. She keeps watch over me until I wake up. After a while I finally woke up, and she nodded.

"Okay. I’m going to sleep then."

I nodded. "Okay. Sleep well. I won’t let even a mosquito close. I’m the only one allowed to come close to you."

She just rolled her eyes and went to sleep.

I watched over her while practicing, because no one knows what happens in this kind of place. Someone can come from lower floors, or what kind of things are in this place is unknown.

And I just looked at the peaceful face of Nyx. It’s very relaxing to watch her face.

I’m falling deeper into this endless pit called love. I’m cooked. But I don’t hate this feeling.

Then finally she woke up as well, and we ate our meal. We didn’t know if this is breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

We just ate what was left from our food reserves.

"Are you ready for the next floor, Nyx?"

She nodded. "I’m ready. What about you?"

"I’m born ready."

She nodded and smiled. "Okay. Let’s go."

Then we entered the 43rd floor.

For a few moments nothing happened. I prepared my dark threads for the boss.

Then we heard a "buzz" sound.

And thousands of bees appeared, and in the middle the queen bee appeared.

"Omg. This is a bee boss. Can we get a honey pot for going?"

Nyx laughed at that. "What nonsense are you talking about? Be careful. Those bees might have paralysis."

I nodded and said, "Coat yourself with aura."

Nyx nodded. "Good idea."

Then I used a water boom at them.

And looked at Nyx. "Now."

She understood immediately. "Okay. Understood."

Then she used her ice fire in the air.

And all the water drops froze and hit all surrounding and killed the normal bees.

And it affected the bee queen as well.

I didn’t wait. I used raw black flame at them. Nyx used with me, and our flames combined and hit them.

Bees fell like flies. Then I thought, In seconds, though, they are some kind of flies, right?

Ah, what do I know. Just die.

Then we directly went to the bee queen.

Other bees died by our attack, but even so the remaining ones came forward with determination and defended the queen.

I felt like a villain, so I used every attack on the queen. Why waste time on individuals when they come and take my whole attack and die?

The queen was furious, but she can’t do shit.

Nyx used her sword with ice and cut a clear line on the queen.

The queen tried to avoid her attack by coming this way. I just placed a hand on her and burned her to a crisp.

And the queen disappeared.

I blinked. "Hey, is this for real? This is way easier than the previous one."

Nyx just waved her head. "We had perfect elemental powers to deal with them. That’s why it feels easy."

I sat down for a moment and let the new power settle. The water element still felt a little foreign in my hands, but combined with darkness and fire it was starting to feel natural.

Nyx wiped sweat from her forehead and sat across from me. Neither of us spoke for a while. The quiet of the empty floor felt heavier after the bee swarm.

I took out two water bottles and tossed one to her. She caught it without looking.

"Thanks."

"Don’t mention it. Saving my future meal ticket is important business."

She rolled her eyes, but the corner of her mouth lifted.

We rested a little longer, checked our wounds one more time, and stood up again.

Seven floors left. Including this one we just finished, the path was still long, but the goal felt closer than before.

I looked at the sealed door leading upward and grinned.

"Ready for the next ugly monster, Nyx?"

She nodded, already gripping her sword.

"As always."
