The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend

Chapter 1049 - Dark Locust’s Ascension

  • Next Chapter

Another year passed within the divine realm. With Han Wu’s unlimited supply of Dark Stones, Dark Locust had finally developed his Dark Jurisdiction to completion.

The newly unlocked ability was Dark Clone. Dark Locust could use Dark Energy to make clones that possessed half of his original strength and had the ability to Self-Detonate.

The difference was that, unlike Dark Locust himself, the clones couldn’t revive after detonating. The ability had one major advantage: as long as there was enough energy, Dark Locust could create an unlimited number of clones. He could stockpile a batch of Dark Clones within his own Microcosm and release them all during battle.

However, Han Wu had higher expectations for Dark Locust. He took out the Rulebreaker Stone and used it on Dark Locust. The latter endured the Rulebreaker Stone’s power and gained the opportunity to ascend, becoming the Dark God King. He didn’t disappoint Han Wu’s expectations and chose to ascend.

Han Wu immediately felt a massive wave of Dark Energy rush toward him from beyond his divine realm. The sheer density of the energy dyed the sky itself black.

Han Wu was currently at his dormitory at Imperial College, so the anomaly drew the attention of the students and lecturers alike. They followed the flow of Dark Energy to its source and traced it to Han Wu’s dormitory. A Do Not Disturb sign hung on the door, so no one dared to enter.

Based on the energy flow’s direction, they concluded that Han Wu was ascending to become the Dark God King. What they didn’t know was that Dark Locust was the one truly ascending, not Han Wu. The enormous stream of Dark Energy merely passed through Han Wu’s body before flowing into Dark Locust within his divine realm.

Under the power of that massive influx, Dark Locust finally ascended from a Major God to a God King. His strength surged to the Subcosm rank in one go, making him the ninth Subcosm fighter under Han Wu’s command.

Han Wu was ecstatic. He hadn’t become a God King himself, but having one of his units do so was just as good.

After completing his transformation, Dark Locust shifted into a humanoid form and knelt reverently before Han Wu. Even now that he was a God King, Han Wu remained the most revered being in his heart.

Han Wu nodded in satisfaction and helped him to his feet. As one of Han Wu’s earliest units, Dark Locust’s growth to this level was nothing short of extraordinary.

“Keep working hard from now on,” Han Wu said.

“I obey, my God.” Dark Locust spoke with deep deference.

As the Dark Energy dissipated, the students and lecturers outside assumed that Han Wu had completed his ascension and offered their congratulations.

Han Wu was too focused on what was happening within his divine realm to hear any of it, so he never came out.

Before long, the Wisdom God King arrived, thanked everyone on his student’s behalf, and dispersed the crowd. He then entered Han Wu’s dormitory.

After receiving Xu Hai’s message, Han Wu hurried out to greet him. The moment Xu Hai saw him, confusion crossed his face. The earlier aura had unmistakably signaled a God King’s ascension, yet Han Wu showed no trace of a God King’s aura. What had happened?

When he voiced his confusion, Han Wu laughed and explained that he wasn’t the one who had ascended. It was his unit, Dark Locust, who had ascended to become the Dark God King.

Xu Hai didn’t know whether to praise Han Wu for his generosity toward his units or scold him for being wasteful.

To think he gave a Dark Jurisdiction of that caliber to a unit instead of using it himself! Then again, Xu Hai had witnessed the strength of Han Wu’s units firsthand. He couldn’t exactly call it a mistake. As long as the Dark Jurisdiction didn’t go to waste, I suppose it’s fine.

After passing along the congratulations from the students and lecturers, Xu Hai revealed the real reason for his visit. The first semester of the third year was about to end. Han Wu had barely attended any classes all semester. Finals were approaching, and Xu Hai’s colleagues had asked him to personally persuade Han Wu to take the exam. They wanted Han Wu to set a good example for the other students.

Han Wu had no objections. With his current strength, taking the final exam was practically the same as being handed first place. As long as his classmates didn’t mind, he was more than happy to earn some extra resources.

Xu Hai chuckled at that and told Han Wu that this exam wouldn’t be what he expected. This time, students wouldn’t enter a single civilization to compete against each other. Instead, a special civilization would be duplicated for each student. Everyone would tackle the challenge alone, and the rankings would be determined by completion time.

Han Wu shrugged. No matter the format, he was confident that he could take first place.

Xu Hai liked that confidence. His student was powerful and ambitious. What was wrong with a little confidence?

Having confirmed Han Wu’s participation, Xu Hai left to prepare the exam grounds for the third-year students.

Han Wu returned to his divine realm and continued fine-tuning his forces to squeeze out every last bit of strength he could.

Three more days passed in the Divine Civilization, and Han Wu welcomed his second Manifestation, True Martial.

The instant the True Martial Manifestation separated from Han Wu’s body, it revealed its true nature as an absolute combat junkie. Its first act was to head straight for the Underworld and scour the soul information archives for more martial techniques to study. This was its form of cultivation, and it would further the development of the True Martial Jurisdiction.

Han Wu let it do as it pleased.

Soon, the day of the final exam arrived.

Following the class notice, Han Wu showed up to class on time for the first time that semester.

Qin Shuang and Sun Qingnian arrived shortly afterward. On the other hand, Jing Jing simply skipped the exam on account of her God King status.

Imperial College accepted her absence. She was already a God King, so a test like that wouldn’t benefit her as much as training within her own divine realm.

Han Wu sat in his seat and noticed several classmates looking at him. Whenever he turned to look back, they quickly averted their eyes and pretended they hadn’t been staring. He found their behavior strange.

Sun Qingnian leaned over and explained, “It’s because of the rumor that you ascended and became the Dark God King. A lot of them assumed that someone of your status wouldn’t bother showing up for an exam like this.”

“They’re right. I don’t think much of it,” Han Wu said. “But my mentor asked me to come, so how could I refuse?”

Sun Qingnian smiled bitterly. “Xu Hai is using you to pressure the rest of the class. With you sitting at the top, every student in our year is going to feel like there’s a mountain hanging over their heads.”

While they chatted, Saliya arrived and read out the exam rules. Every student would be teleported into an identical labyrinth. What awaited them was a defense battle!
