The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 1050 - Defend Yourself
After entering the labyrinth, Han Wu discovered he couldn’t move. He was pinned in place as a series of rules belonging to this civilization scrolled before his eyes.
[Rule 1: The host cannot move, attack, recover, or take any defensive action on their own.]
[Rule 2: Every day, a wave of random creatures will enter the labyrinth and follow a set path to attack the host. The host must build a defensive line to protect themselves.]
[Rule 3: Killing invading creatures grants Energy Points and treasures. Energy Points can be used to draw units and establish a defensive line. Once a unit is placed, it cannot be moved, but it can attack or defend against any invading creature within its range. Treasures can be used to strengthen units.]
After reading every rule, Han Wu felt numb. Previously, he had been brimming with confidence. He had been certain that he could handle any challenge, but he wasn’t so sure now. The main problem was that he couldn’t move, attack, defend, or recover. He was nothing but a target waiting to be hit. It was humiliating. His units were his only hope.
He started with 100 Energy Points, which was enough to draw units and set up his defense. Every ten Energy Points granted him one draw, so he immediately pulled for ten units.
Luck wasn’t on his side this time. Eight of the ten draws were Common locusts. The other two were a Bomber Locust and a Bloodfang Bat.
Since this civilization was different, Han Wu checked the units’ attributes through the local civilization’s Will.
[Locust: Common life form. Attack method: Gnaw (single target). Range: 1. Damage: 1. Attack interval: 1 second]
[Bomber Locust: Elite life form. Attack method: Self-Detonate (multi-target). Range: 5. Damage: 10. Attack interval: 1 minute. After Self-Detonating, it will regenerate one minute later and attack again.]
[Bloodfang Bat: Heroic life form. Attack method: Corrupted Blood Arrow (single target). Range: 10. Damage: 20. Attack interval: 2 seconds. Skill: Crimson Halo. Absorbs blood within the halo’s range to heal the host.]
Among the three, only the Bloodfang Bat had a decent rank.
Han Wu was considering how to arrange his defensive layout when a warning sounded.
[Creatures invading in three minutes. Species: Goblins. Quantity: 100.]
[Goblin: Common life form. HP: 100. Movement speed: 2. Attack method: Wooden Club Strike (single target). Range: 2. Damage: 4. Attack interval: 1 second. Invading creatures will only target the host.]
After the warning, Han Wu received another notification.
[Based on the host’s base attributes, HP has been set at 589,000.]
A long health bar appeared above Han Wu’s head representing his total life. Once it hit 0, the exam would be over.
Han Wu looked at his 589,000 HP, then at the goblins’ pathetic four points of damage. Even if he stood still and let them wail on him, it would take them forever to kill him. Besides, he had his units. Although most of his draws were garbage, they could still handle goblins.
Han Wu carefully started constructing his defensive line. He considered the labyrinth’s layout and his own safety, then positioned the Bloodfang Bat close to him so that it could attack enemies while healing him. He placed the Bomber Locust next to him as well. If enemies swarmed him, it could clear the area with a Self-Detonate.
As for his weakest and most numerous units, the Common locusts, he arranged them at the portal entrance. That way, they could attack the invading creatures the moment they appeared.
While stationing the locusts, his consciousness touched two of them simultaneously, and the word Merge appeared above both.
Han Wu thought he was seeing things. He focused his consciousness on another pair, only for the same word to appear again.
This civilization didn’t fully seal my abilities. At least Merge still works, he thought.
He then tested his consciousness on the Bomber Locust and the Bloodfang Bat, but the Merge prompt didn’t appear. Apparently, different species couldn’t be merged in this civilization.
Han Wu turned his attention to the eight locusts. When his consciousness touched two at once, the prompt appeared again. This time, he went through with it. The two locusts merged into a single, slightly larger locust. It was now an Elite locust, and its Damage had increased from 1 to 2, but its other attributes stayed the same.
Han Wu refused to accept such a meager result. He merged the remaining three pairs, but the outcome was the same every time: each merged locust grew slightly larger, and its Damage increased to 2, while nothing else changed.
He selected two merged locusts and performed a second Merge. This time, the change was noticeable. The resulting locust was now a Unique life form, and its body was twice the size of the Elite ones. Its Damage climbed to 4, but everything else remained the same.
Still unsatisfied, Han Wu took the two Unique locusts and merged them a third time. The resulting unit was a Heroic locust with a Damage attribute of 8. Although that number didn’t sound particularly impressive, this Heroic locust was the final product of merging the eight original locusts into one.
After some deliberation, Han Wu placed it at the portal entrance. When the invading creatures emerged, this Heroic locust would be the first to strike.
Soon, the countdown hit zero, and the first wave of invaders marched through the portal. Goblins strode in without a care in the world, their stubby wooden clubs held high.
