Chapter 511: Chapter 476
“So she really did have kittens.”
Hearing the faint sound of kittens meowing from the alley, both of them started to smile.
They didn’t get any closer to look, afraid the calico mother cat would get defensive.
Yun Jiao placed the two remaining sausages she had on the ground, waiting for the calico to come out and eat on her own.
Just as they were about to leave, the calico cat unexpectedly came out.
She was carrying a tiny kitten in her mouth.
Its eyes were already open. It was a Little Sanhua, with a beautifully distributed pattern.
Dangling by the scruff of its neck, it had its four little paws and tail curled up, mewing softly.
The mother cat dropped it at Yun Jiao and Fu Mingyu’s feet, nudged it with her paw, and meowed at them twice.
Yun Jiao & Fu Mingyu: “…”
“Is she… giving it to us?”
Fu Mingyu nodded, crouching down to pick up the beautiful, bewildered, and mewing Little Sanhua.
“Are you really giving your baby to us?”
The calico cat looked at Little Sanhua with reluctance in her eyes.
‘This is the prettiest of all my kittens. One of these humans often feeds me, and I like the other’s aura. They’re also generous with food. They must be able to find a lot to eat every day. The little one will never go hungry with them.’
She had four kittens in her litter in total, and it was a bit difficult for her to raise them all.
Fu Mingyu seemed to really like it, so Yun Jiao told him to take it home and raise it.
Fu Mingyu shook his head. “You know my family situation. Besides, I spend most of my time in the lab with my professor. I don’t have time to take care of her.”
Yun Jiao said, “I’m living in the dorms right now, too.”
The two looked at each other. This Little Sanhua was just too beautiful; they really wanted to keep her.
So, after a brief discussion, they came up with a plan. Fu Mingyu had an apartment off-campus, not far from the university.
They would keep Little Sanhua at the apartment for now. Yun Jiao could go over to keep her company when she didn’t have classes. Fu Mingyu was at school during the day but could go back at night, so he would be with Little Sanhua in the evenings.
And just like that, the happy decision was made. They high-fived after settling on the plan.
Yun Jiao said to the mother cat, “As payment for taking your child, I’ll come feed you for a while.”
After saying goodbye to the mother cat, the two of them took the meowing Little Sanhua to go shopping.
There were already dedicated pet shops in the Capital now. You could get pets bathed and groomed there, and they also sold special pet food, toys, and other things.
Neither of them was short on money, so they bought Little Sanhua some special kitten food, goat milk powder, a cat bed, toys, and so on.
They also got her vaccinated and dewormed…
After everything was done, Little Sanhua stared up with her big, watery, smoke-gray eyes, nestled obediently in Yun Jiao’s arms.
“This calico seems to be a long-haired cat. She’ll be gorgeous when she grows up.”
The two thanked the vet and then headed to Fu Mingyu’s apartment.
The apartment was a hundred square meters, more than big enough for him to live in alone, and it was simply decorated.
As soon as Little Sanhua arrived at the new place, she was very cautious at first, hiding under the sofa and refusing to come out for a long time.
So, Yun Jiao and Fu Mingyu found places to set up all the kitten’s things.
After they were done, Little Sanhua cautiously crept out from under the sofa.
Tomorrow was Saturday, and she had no classes in the afternoon, so Yun Jiao could stay here and keep her company.
But she was worried her brothers might come looking for her, so she still had to make a trip back to campus.
Fu Mingyu said, “I’ll go with you. If you’re not going to be on campus today and tomorrow, you can take Little Sanhua back with you.”
Yun Jiao thought for a moment and nodded. She put the little one in a cat carrier, packed some milk powder, a bottle, and kitten food, and then the two of them headed to campus with the kitten.
Yun Xiaowu, who had been looking everywhere for Yun Jiao, returned to the school gate. He was happy at first to see Fu Mingyu and Yun Jiao, but the longer he looked, the more something felt off.
‘That’s my sister. Why are you standing so close?’
Especially when he heard someone say they looked good together.
‘Like hell they do.’
He walked over with a dark expression on his face.
“Jiaojiao, where did you run off to? I went to your classroom and your dorm, but you weren’t in either place.”
Yun Jiao replied, “I didn’t have class this afternoon. I went out for a bit.”
“Fifth Brother.”
Fu Mingyu greeted him.
Yun Xiaowu’s tone was dripping with sarcasm when he spoke.
“Fu Mingyu, when did you get back? Didn’t even bother to tell us. And the first thing you do is find my sister, huh?”
This ‘brother’ who he used to find agreeable was now suddenly an eyesore, especially after seeing him walking with his sister.
Yun Jiao gave him a strange look.
“What’s wrong, Brother? Who made you mad?”
Yun Xiaowu: “…”
He couldn’t just say he suspected that brat Fu Mingyu had ill intentions, could he?
“It’s nothing.”
He looked at Yun Jiao. “Where were you two?”
Yun Jiao immediately and excitedly took Little Sanhua out to show him, explaining where she came from and how she and Fu Mingyu were going to raise her together.
“What?!”
Hearing that she was going to raise a cat with Fu Mingyu, Yun Xiaowu’s voice boomed.
“You’re going to raise it with him? Why can’t you just raise it yourself, or he raises it himself? Are you two really that close?”
Yun Jiao looked at him, completely puzzled.
“Fifth Brother, what’s gotten into you? Haven’t we always been on great terms? You and Brother Mingyu get along really well too. Wait, when did you two have a fight?”
Fu Mingyu said, “We haven’t.”
Yun Xiaowu scratched his head, looking completely antsy.
“This isn’t about whether you’re on good terms or not! It’s… a guy and a girl, seen together all the time… people will get the wrong idea about your relationship. Jiaojiao, you’re only sixteen! No puppy love!”
Yun Jiao: “…”
Fu Mingyu’s eyes flickered slightly, and he pressed his lips together without saying a word.
“Brother, what are you thinking?”
She was a bit speechless. “I live in a dorm. As much as I’d love to keep the cat there, I have roommates, okay? It just so happens that Fu Mingyu bought an apartment here. He’s in the lab during the day and goes back at night, and I can go look after her when I don’t have class. Where is your mind going?”
Yun Xiaowu said, “Then you can bring her to our place to raise her.”
“I’d like to, but that’s a bit far. We only go back during holidays. Are you suggesting we let her take care of herself all alone?”
Yun Xiaowu scratched his head, at a loss.
He glanced at the beautiful Little Sanhua being held in her arms.
‘Fine.’ He couldn’t bring himself to say they shouldn’t keep her.
“Whatever, just be careful. Even if there’s nothing going on between you, there are so many mouths and eyes at this school. If people get the wrong idea, the rumors will fly.”
Anyway, he just had a feeling that this Fu Mingyu kid had ulterior motives.
“I know, I know. Stop overthinking things.”
She said goodbye to Fu Mingyu and headed back with Fifth Brother, carrying Little Sanhua.
Little Sanhua was in another new environment, but she was somewhat familiar with Yun Jiao now, so she was a little bolder and began to cautiously explore this new world.
But the break was only for two days.
Yun Jiao used these two days to get completely comfortable with Little Sanhua.
She named her Hua Hua.
When it was time to go back to school, she took her to Fu Mingyu’s apartment.
And because of this little cat, their relationship did indeed seem very close to outsiders.
When Yun Jiao returned to her classroom, her roommates all asked her about it.
“What’s the deal between you and the great Campus Prince Fu?”
“A lot of people are saying you two are dating.”
‘Fifth Brother was right,’ Yun Jiao thought.
“No, we’ve known each other since we were kids. We’re old acquaintances.”
Hong Yan cooed, “Ooh~ Childhood sweethearts.”
Yun Jiao nodded openly. “I guess you could say that.”
She had quite a few childhood friends, actually.
‘But not in the way they’re thinking.’
Yun Jiao really had no plans to date right now anyway.
Peng Lele pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose.
“Jiaojiao, you’d better be careful. I heard a very pretty sophomore has been pursuing Fu Mingyu. Her family is pretty well-connected. As far as we know, Senior Brother Fu is cold to everyone, including her. But now, you’re the only one he treats differently. That senior will probably cause trouble for you.”
Yun Jiao frowned.
She wasn’t scared, but she thought it would be really annoying if that happened.
“It’s fine. I’m no pushover.”
Yun Jiao didn’t expect to run into the person Peng Lele mentioned on the third day.
“You’re Yun Jiao? Stay away from Fu Mingyu.”
She crossed her arms, looking Yun Jiao up and down with a flash of jealousy in her eyes as she gave her a stern warning.
Yun Jiao said, “Excuse me, you’re in my way.”
“Did you hear what I said? Fu Mingyu is not someone a country bumpkin like you can social climb to. I suggest you know your place. My family is already discussing an engagement with his. It’s impossible for him to be with you.”
Yun Jiao laughed. “When you say ‘his family,’ you don’t mean his deadbeat dad who only bothered to have him but not raise him, and his stepmom, do you?”
“You… So! You know that much about Fu Mingyu’s family situation. You really are a shameless bitch trying to social climb!”
Just as Yun Jiao was about to slap her, Fu Mingyu appeared.
His expression was ugly, and he looked even colder than before.
“It seems my previous warnings were useless. In that case, I’ll have my grandfather speak with your family personally.”
