The Mirror Master
Chapter 226: Chen Shihu
Han Fei’s attention was fixed on the drunkard in the corner, so he never imagined that the corpse at his feet would suddenly reanimate!
Jiao Ping’s corpse suddenly flew up, smashing straight for his face!
“You seek death!”
Han Fei reacted in a flash. With a great shout, he swung his blade in a backhanded slash, chopping down to meet it.
His Sword Technique was sharp and decisive—simple, direct, and without a single flashy, wasted motion.
This was a Sword Technique purely honed on the battlefield.
In the clash of two armies, there are few opportunities to spare.
Use a single feint, and you might be cut down by your opponent before you could even test their reaction.
Battlefield Sword Technique was all about being clean and decisive, with absolutely no room for hesitation.
SQUELCH!
Blood gushed forth.
With a single slash, Han Fei sliced Jiao Ping in two at the waist. Internal Organs spilled across the ground, and the stench of blood filled the air.
‘Something’s wrong!’
The moment Han Fei sliced Jiao Ping in two, he felt an intense wave of danger!
Jiao Ping hadn’t reacted at all. He was just a corpse.
‘It wasn’t him that reanimated!’
‘It was… Lu Bai!’
As the thought flashed through Han Fei’s mind, his scalp tingled and a chill ran through his entire body.
He was holding his blade with both hands. In the instant he sliced Jiao Ping in two, his chest was left wide open, exposing a fatal flaw.
In a flash, the glint of a sword appeared in his pupils, arriving in an instant!
WHOOSH!
Han Fei subconsciously circulated his Blood Qi, trying to pull back and retreat, but it was too late.
PFFT!
Han Fei suddenly felt a chill in his throat.
The next moment, he felt like a punctured wineskin as his Blood Qi gushed from his throat. A wave of dizziness washed over him, and his vision began to blur.
“You… you… how dare you… kill a general of the Wu Dynasty!”
Han Fei’s eyes widened as he stared at the tall, sturdy figure nearby. His face was filled with rage as he spoke, one hand clutching his throat.
Han Fei never dreamed that he, a True Master Martial Dao, would fall at the hands of a mere Innate Martial Artist.
His attention had been entirely focused on that drunkard.
He had completely let his guard down regarding the area at his feet.
If not for that drunkard, his battlefield habits would have compelled him to carefully inspect every corpse on the scene.
But alas, there were no “what ifs.”
Lu Bai had given him no chance.
A single, fatal sword strike.
“Leader Han!”
The four soldiers noticed the commotion and turned to look, only to see that Han Fei had already been run through the throat by Lu Bai’s sword.
“How dare you!”
“Kill!”
With a furious roar, the four men drew their blades and charged at Lu Bai.
Lu Bai’s gaze was icy and his face expressionless as he met their charge, sword in hand.
Without the threat of Han Fei, four Innate Martial Artists were nothing to fear.
But as they clashed, Lu Bai clearly felt something was off.
All four were Innate Martial Artists, but taken individually, their combat prowess was no match for Jiao Ping and his two companions.
And they were even weaker compared to him.
But their Sword Technique was incredibly sharp and filled with a grim, killing intent.
Every single move was a life-for-a-life exchange!
Moreover, all four of them wore Armor.
A Treasure Artifact that could channel Blood Qi would have no problem piercing their Armor.
But Lü Chen’s Flying Sword couldn’t channel Lu Bai’s Blood Qi Power. With its sharpness alone, it couldn’t even pierce the men’s Armor.
In a one-on-one fight, Lu Bai could have killed any of them with ease.
Even against two of them, the pressure on Lu Bai wouldn’t be too great.
But these four Border Soldiers fought with a complete disregard for their own lives, and for a moment, Lu Bai was thrown into disarray.
‘It’s a good thing I played dead and ambushed Han Fei when he was off guard.’
‘If Han Fei were still here, I definitely wouldn’t be able to hold them off.’
Out of the corner of his eye, Lu Bai noticed a bundle next to Han Fei.
Fighting and retreating, Lu Bai moved toward the bundle and flicked it into the air with the tip of his foot.
The bundle flew into the air.
As blades flashed and crisscrossed, the cloth was instantly shredded, revealing the Cyan Cloud Sword within!
Lu Bai dropped the Flying Sword and smoothly snatched the Cyan Cloud Sword from the air.
VMMMM!
The sword left its sheath, letting out a clear, ringing cry.
His Blood Qi surged, and the sword’s light flared.
Five layers of a blood-red halo bloomed from the blade, instantly illuminating the dim hall.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Wherever the sword’s light passed, it was accompanied by a series of sharp, metallic clashes.
Amidst the shifting light and shadows, figures blurred and crisscrossed with incredible speed.
Soon, the main hall fell silent once more.
Five figures stood motionless.
A moment later, the four Border Soldiers went limp and collapsed to the ground, dead.
Having killed Han Fei and his four men, Lu Bai finally let out a sigh of relief.
Gazing at the corpses in the main hall, Lu Bai’s expression was grim.
‘Whether it’s Longxiang Town or Huben Town, I definitely can’t go to either of them now.’
‘If I’d only killed Lü Chen, Jiao Ping, and those other four, it would have been one thing.’
‘But now, I’ve gone and killed a general from the Longxiang Army.’
Lu Bai recalled what Mo Tang had told him just before he departed.
She had told him to bear with things once he got to the military camp and, no matter what, not to cause any more trouble.
And now, before he had even reached the camp, he’d caused a huge disaster.
‘Still, even if I had to choose again, I would still kill Han Fei and his men!’
‘Since they took part in this scheme and were already plotting against me, I don’t give a damn if you’re a Wu Dynasty general or anyone else. I’ll kill you first and deal with the consequences later!’
‘Even if I had endured it for now, I would have been targeted by Han Fei and his ilk in the military camp. Nothing good would have come of it.’
‘Looks like I can’t stay in the Wu Country any longer.’
‘This place isn’t far from the Great Li. If I can cross the border, I’ll be safe.’
Lu Bai gathered his bundle and checked it. Nothing was missing.
He started searching the bodies of Han Fei, Lü Chen, and the others.
He found three more Storage Pouches on the three Foundation Establishment Great Cultivators.
However, he still couldn’t open them, so he stuffed them all into his bundle.
Han Fei and the four soldiers didn’t have many silver taels on them.
On the bodies of Jiao Ping, Yan Fu, and Miao Yuanshan, however, he managed to scrounge up silver notes worth over five thousand silver taels.
Just then, Lu Bai sensed something and instinctively looked up.
But what he saw made him jump.
At some point, the drunkard had woken up. He was now sitting imposingly on the long bench, calmly watching him.
At this moment, there wasn’t the slightest hint of drunkenness on the big man’s face. He had thick brows, large eyes, and a gaze as sharp as a torch. His chest was bare, and he radiated a bold, heroic aura.
“You…”
Lu Bai froze, feeling as if he’d been caught red-handed.
“Young man, you’re quite skilled at that,” the big man said with a grin.
Lu Bai coughed lightly. “It’s a habit.”
Lu Bai asked tentatively, “Sir, did you see everything just now?”
“I did.”
The big man nodded and laughed heartily. “You’ve certainly got guts, daring to kill men from the Longxiang Army. Black Hand Yama… your reputation is well-earned! Haha!”
Lu Bai muttered, “Am I that famous?”
The big man said, “Young man, now that you’ve killed men from the Longxiang Army, you can’t stay in the Wu Dynasty. What are your plans now?”
“I haven’t decided yet.”
Lu Bai shook his head slightly.
Although the man didn’t seem hostile, Lu Bai remained cautious and didn’t say much more.
“If you’ve got nowhere else to go, why not come with me?” the big man offered.
“May I ask your name, sir…?”
Lu Bai didn’t agree, merely cupping his fist as he asked.
“My name is Chen Shihu,” the big man said with a laugh.
‘Chen Shihu… That’s a powerful name.’
Lu Bai’s gaze lingered on the man’s face. ‘This man has a full beard and a commanding presence,’ he thought. ‘He really does have the powerful spirit of a lion and a tiger.’
