Chapter 227: Slaying a True Master Again

“You’re very cautious, little brother.”

Chen Shihu laughed. “I’ve heard about you. I wanted to see for myself if this Black Hand Yama of the Wu Country was just an empty title, all talk and no substance. Seeing you today, I can say this trip wasn’t a waste!”

Lu Bai’s heart stirred. He asked, “Did you come looking for me specifically?”

“That’s right.”

Chen Shihu said, “What you did in Jing State was great, but the Wu Dynasty Monarch exiled you to the border and conscripted you into the army. Why should you stay in the Wu Country and suffer such injustice?”

“Besides, you just killed men from the Longxiang Army. Now there’s even less reason for you to stay in the Wu Country.”

Lu Bai fell silent, pondering.

He indeed had no intention of staying in the Wu Country any longer.

‘Now that this ambush has failed, Marquis Jingzhong will probably cause more trouble down the line.’

However, he had only just met this man by chance and knew nothing of his origins. Lu Bai was naturally a little suspicious.

Lu Bai asked, “Do you have a good destination in mind?”

“Head south.”

Chen Shihu pointed south.

Lu Bai was lost in thought, giving a noncommittal response.

‘That idea actually coincides with my own.’

Just then, Chen Shihu slapped his forehead and laughed. “I almost forgot something.”

Before his voice had faded, Chen Shihu suddenly reached out, making a grabbing motion in the air toward the second floor.

CRACK!

The door and window of a room on the second floor suddenly shattered, and three figures were violently dragged out by an invisible force, tumbling to the ground before the two of them.

‘Such power… This man’s Realm is probably even higher than the Golden Core Realm!’

Lu Bai was secretly alarmed and looked toward the three men.

Their faces were filled with terror. They stared at Chen Shihu, trembling with fear.

The three seemed to want to say something, but they were bound by a powerful force, unable to even speak.

“They are…”

Lu Bai asked with a frown.

“Why don’t you tell him yourselves.”

Chen Shihu waved his hand, and the force binding the three men suddenly vanished.

“Senior, spare us!”

The moment they could speak, the three men immediately scrambled to beg for their lives.

“My little brother here is asking who you are.”

Chen Shihu’s smile vanished. His gaze was as sharp as a blade, and though his tone was casual, it made the three men shudder.

“I am True Master Wu Ying of the Xuanjian Sect.”

“I am True Master Yu Ding of Danding Temple.”

“I am Kong Yiyang, not very famous in the Jianghu.”

The three quickly answered.

Lu Bai’s eye twitched.

‘Two True Master Golden Cores, and that Kong Yiyang fellow is probably a True Master Martial Dao.’

A sliver of doubt had crossed his mind earlier.

‘Wu Lan’s plan to intercept and kill me was thorough, but it wasn’t a massive effort. It couldn’t be called foolproof.’

After all, there was no Golden Core Realm expert presiding over it.

Only now did he realize that there were indeed three Golden Core Realm experts in the posthouse.

The only reason they hadn’t appeared from start to finish was because Chen Shihu had subdued them.

They couldn’t even move, let alone make a sound!

If these three Golden Core Realm experts had attacked, Lu Bai would have been unable to stop them on his own. He would have certainly had to use a Dust Silk to summon Yu Daoxuan.

However, he wasn’t sure if Yu Daoxuan would have arrived in time.

After all, he had never used it before.

Yu Daoxuan had only said to call his name, but he hadn’t mentioned how long it would take for him to arrive.

“Senior, thank you.”

Lu Bai bowed deeply to Chen Shihu and clasped his hands in a formal salute.

“It was nothing.”

Chen Shihu waved his hand and smiled. “I won’t say anything about ganging up on someone, but sending three True Master Golden Cores after you is just bullying.”

Chen Shihu then asked, “So what should we do with these three?”

Lu Bai subconsciously tightened his grip on the Cyan Cloud Sword.

‘Since they came to kill me, there’s no need for mercy.’

‘What’s more, they’ve seen Chen Shihu. Leaving them alive will only cause trouble in the future!’

At that exact moment, the three seemed to sense the danger. They each activated their Magical Power and Blood Qi, leaped up, and suddenly scattered in three different directions, fleeing into the distance.

A flash of sword light!

The Cyan Cloud Sword slashed through empty air, a step too slow.

With their lives on the line, the three Golden Core Realm experts unleashed their full potential to escape, their Body Technique several degrees faster than usual.

“Heh heh!”

Chen Shihu gave a strange laugh. Unhurried, he reached out and snatched a waist saber from the ground, which landed in his palm.

Chen Shihu’s arm seemed to move.

Or perhaps it didn’t.

Lu Bai blinked and couldn’t see clearly.

“Let’s go.”

Chen Shihu suddenly tossed the waist saber in his hand aside.

“Those three…”

Lu Bai was momentarily stunned. He had just started to speak when he witnessed a truly shocking scene!

In the air, three bursts of saber light suddenly materialized, instantly burying themselves in the bodies of the three men!

Lu Bai’s Heart and Spirit trembled, and his scalp went numb.

Chen Shihu had only just picked up that waist saber and had casually tossed it away just as quickly.

From beginning to end, he hadn’t seen how Chen Shihu attacked, yet three bursts of saber light had suddenly appeared in mid-air.

Such a fast Sword Technique!

So fast it surpassed Lu Bai’s visual perception!

‘If I were to face such a Sword Technique, I probably wouldn’t even know how I died.’

The three Golden Core Realm experts had just escaped the posthouse when their bodies suddenly froze, and they plummeted from the sky, motionless.

“This…”

Lu Bai swallowed and asked tentatively, “Are they dead?”

“Couldn’t be deader.”

Chen Shihu said with a smile. He strode over to the three, circled them once, then dragged their bodies back and threw them in front of Lu Bai.

Lu Bai looked down and inspected the three bodies.

All three had died with their eyes open, their faces frozen in terror, and all signs of life extinguished from their bodies.

Lu Bai fumbled around for a while but couldn’t find any Storage Pouches.

“I’ve got them.”

Chen Shihu grinned, and with a flip of his hand, two Storage Pouches appeared in his palm.

Lu Bai coughed lightly to hide his embarrassment. “I was just planning to retrieve them for you, Senior…”

‘This big fellow seems so boisterous and carefree, yet he loots bodies too. I wonder who he learned that from.’

Lu Bai had originally been suspicious and wary of Chen Shihu, but now, he let down much of his guard.

‘If Chen Shihu wanted to harm me, there’d be no need to go through all this trouble.’

‘Regardless, I need to leave this place first.’

Lu Bai said, “Senior…”

“All this ‘Senior, Senior’ business is so boring.”

Before Lu Bai could finish, Chen Shihu cut him off. “I call you little brother, so you can just call me big brother.”

“Alright, Brother Chen!”

Seeing that Chen Shihu was so frank and paid little mind to formalities, Lu Bai didn’t insist. He continued, “We’ve been delayed here for a while. We should get moving quickly, before the Border Army arrives and makes it hard to escape.”

“Right.”

Chen Shihu nodded. “Find a horse and follow me.”

The two left the posthouse.

Several warhorses were kept in the stables.

They each picked one at random and headed south.

“Brother Chen, are you from Great Li?”

Lu Bai asked on the road.

“No.”

Chen Shihu smiled but didn’t say more.

The two spurred their horses, and after galloping along the main road for a while, they saw a town in the distance.

Chen Shihu changed direction, leaving the main road to bypass the town and head off to one side.

Lu Bai followed close behind.
