Chapter 413: Chapter 413 Silver and Fury 1

Kaelen’s POV

I was frozen in my wolf form, and Malachai’s voice held me in place.

His words hung in the air like a blade, and I did not move.

I could not move because if I did, Talia would die. So I stayed where I was, with my paws planted on the dead earth, and I watched Serena and Vivienne walk toward her.

They moved slowly, and deliberately, like they had all the time in the world. Like they knew I could not stop them.

I watched them go, and I felt the distance between us grow with every step they took.

Every instinct in my body screamed at me to run after them. My muscles bunched, and my claws dug into the dead earth. But I could not move.

The bond between us stretched and pulled. I could feel her fear. It was sharp and cold, like a blade pressed against my spine. My jaw tightened until my teeth ached. My hands clenched into fists, and my claws dug into my palms.

I wanted to tear the world apart with my bare hands.

My chest ached. It was not a physical pain. It was something deeper. It was the bond screaming at me to move, to fight, to save her.

I could not reach Talia, and I could not protect her. And that was the worst feeling in the world.

I had promised to protect her. I had promised to keep her safe. And now I was frozen, and helpless, watching her enemies walk toward her.

Bane slammed against my ribs from the inside. His voice was a snarl in my skull. "Save our mate! Move! Now!"

I pushed against the invisible weight that held me. My muscles strained, and my bones creaked, but nothing moved.

"It is no use," Bane growled. "He is too strong."

"No," I said. "I will not give up. I will not."

I pushed harder. My vision blurred, and my breath came in ragged gasps. Sweat dripped into my eyes, and my muscles screamed in protest. But I did not break free.

My body was not my own. Malachai held me like a puppet on strings, and I could do nothing but watch.

I stopped pushing because I could not break free. But I could still fight.

I knew I had to warn the others.

"I cannot help her," I thought to myself. "But they can."

I reached for the mind link.

"Jax, Silas, Cain. Listen to me," I said. "Serena and Vivienne are heading for Talia. They are possessed and corrupted. Get to her now. Protect her with your lives."

Jax responded first, and his voice was sharp with shock. "Serena? Vivienne? What are you talking about? Serena was banished, and Vivienne disappeared during the battle with Viktor. How are they here?"

Silas responded, and his voice was calm, but I could hear the surprise beneath it. "That is not possible. We saw Serena dragged to the border, and we saw Vivienne run. They cannot be here."

"They are here," I said. "I am looking at them right now. Serena is possessed, and her eyes are black. Vivienne has a dark energy around her. Malachai brought them back."

Cain responded, with his voice cold and steady. "We should have executed them from the start." he said. "I am coming, but I may not make it in time."

Silas spoke again. "We are too far, Kaelen. I am on the east side. Cain is on the west, and Jax is on the south. We cannot reach her in time."

My heart slammed against my ribs. I could hear it in my ears, loud and fast, drowning out the sounds of the battle around me. "Find another way. Just get to her."

Jax’s voice was urgent. "We are trying. We are cutting through as fast as we can."

The sounds of weapons clashing echoed loudly around me. I could hear Jax grunting, and Silas shouting. I also knew that Cain was moving in silence.

"Go faster," I said. "Please." but the link went quiet.

I waited for a response.

"Jax? Silas? Cain?" I called through the link.

There was still no response.

The silence stretched. It was heavy and cold, and it pressed against my chest.

I called for them again. Nothing.

I was alone.

"Trust them," I told myself. "They will reach her. They have to."

I had no choice. I had to believe they would make it.

I turned my attention back to Malachai, and the fury boiled over inside me.

"He will pay," Bane growled. "He will pay for what he has done."

"Yes," I said. "He will."

My Alpha aura exploded out of me like a wave. It rolled off my skin in visible ripples, and the air grew thick and heavy.

The ground beneath my feet trembled. The corrupted wolves nearest to me stumbled back. Their black eyes widened, and some of them fell to their knees. Even Malachai paused, and his smile faltered.

For a moment, the battlefield was still.

"Now," Bane growled. "Strike now."

"Not yet," I said. "I want him to see me coming."

I shifted back into my human form, and my body contorted and changed. My bones cracked and reformed, and my muscles stretched and shifted. I stood tall, and I drew my swords.

I looked at Malachai, and my voice was cold and steady, but it was laced with fury.

"I, Kaelen Blackthorn Frost, Alpha of Shadowfang Pack, will destroy you, Malachai."

Malachai laughed. "You think you can destroy me? You are nothing but a boy with a weakness."

I charged at him, my swords raised.

We met in a deadlock. My sword pressed against his bare hand, and the steel should have cut through his skin, but it did not. It was like pressing my blade against stone. We pushed against each other, and neither of us gave ground.

I pushed harder. I shifted between wolf and human form, attacking him mercilessly. I clawed at his chest, and I cut him again and again. I gave him so many wounds that he began to defend. His arms came up to block my strikes, and his feet moved backward.

He was retreating.

Malachai stumbled back, and he was losing ground.

His breath came in ragged gasps. His eyes were wide. He had not expected this.

I pressed the advantage, and I was winning.

Malachai’s eyes widened, because he did not expect this.

Then, just at the slight chance, he reached into his cloak and pulled out a handful of powder substance, then he threw it into my face.

His hand moved faster than I could track. I did not see it coming, and I did not have time to react.

The pain was instant, and that was when I realized that the substance Malachai had thrown was SILVER.
