The Greatest Village Doctor In The World
Chapter 2679 - 2678: Spatial Storm
Ling Feng saw the cage and immediately realized the problem; it was obviously a hostage locked up by bandits.
Little Fei’s sharp claws immediately tore the cage apart. Ling Feng walked in and picked up the cat-eared girl. Then, before the surrounding ship equipment exploded, he jumped onto Little Fei’s back and left the area.
More than a dozen bandit ships were already completely destroyed, and none of the bandits survived; they were all lost in space, equating to death.
If they’re lucky, they might be teleported to some small world; if not, they could wander in space eternally, going insane as they fail to find a way out.
But none of this concerned Ling Feng. After all, he was the "victim."
Ling Feng brought the cat-eared girl back to the Ling Yun and carefully examined her injuries, finding no surface wounds.
She had only inhaled a lot of smoke, which had caused her to pass out. Ling Feng immediately infused his Spiritual Power into the cat girl’s body. After a while, she suddenly coughed violently.
Ling Feng removed his hand from above the cat girl’s chest, and the infusion of Spiritual Power ceased.
Wisps of thick smoke were coughed out by the cat girl, and her consciousness gradually returned as she opened her eyes.
Ling Feng stared into the cat girl’s eyes, discovering that they were one blue and one green, giving her an exotic look.
Just after waking up, the cat girl saw Ling Feng’s smiling face and immediately went pale with fright, clutching her clothes and stepping back several steps.
"Who... who are you?" The cat girl asked cautiously, though fear lingered in her eyes, and the fur on her ears stood on end.
Ling Feng waved his hand. "I’m not a bad person. You were kidnapped by the space bandits earlier, right? I took them down and rescued you."
The cat girl’s face showed a look of reminiscence, and then she suddenly realized, "Oh oh oh, I remember now," she immediately lowered her guard and ran over to grab Ling Feng’s arm:
"Thank you! You saved me; otherwise, I would have been in great danger!" the cat girl said with a delighted smile, her cat ears twitching with happiness.
Ling Feng looked at the cat girl’s delicate skin and her bright, watery eyes, and an instinctive part of him caused him to swallow.
This cat girl truly possesses nation-toppling beauty.
Ling Feng came to his senses, realizing he’s a gentleman. Having saved a young lady, he shouldn’t entertain inappropriate thoughts.
Ling Feng extricated his arm from the cat girl’s grasp. "Ahem, you must be hungry. Let me get you something to eat."
Ling Feng retrieved some bread, meat, and milk from the storage. He watched as the cat girl devoured everything voraciously, leaving no crumbs behind.
Ling Feng swallowed again, this time in surprise at the speed of her eating.
"No need to rush, take your time. I have plenty more food..." Ling Feng hurriedly presented food one by one, but as he watched the cat girl instantly devour everything countless times,
Ling Feng was utterly flabbergasted...
"Uh... go ahead and finish eating. This is the last bag of bread," Ling Feng shakily offered the final bag of milk bread.
The cat girl snatched it, poured the entire bag into her mouth, and swallowed it without much chewing.
"Ah, this..." Ling Feng gazed blankly at the cat girl’s astonishing appetite, recalling that cats weren’t supposed to eat so much.
Ling Feng once had a fat cat at home, which was quite gluttonous and lazy, but not this terrifyingly so.
How long has this cat girl been starving...
"Thank you very much for the food!" The cat girl stood and bowed deeply to Ling Fengshen.
"It’s fine, it’s fine. I guess you still aren’t full?" Ling Feng muttered.
"About seventy to eighty percent full..." the cat girl said uncertainly, patting her belly.
"Alright, if you’re not full, there’s nothing I can do. We don’t have any more food," Ling Feng anticipated the journey wouldn’t be long and knew he could survive without food for many days, so he hadn’t prepared much.
"Now..." Ling Feng organized his thoughts, "Tell me why you were captured by the space bandits."
The cat girl then vividly recounted her capture to Ling Feng.
She was a cat slave on a passing merchant ship. After the ship was attacked, the bandits captured her. They had intended to return but spotted Ling Feng’s ship and thought to score another hit, but ended up biting off more than they could chew.
"Hmm..." Ling Feng pondered for a while and said, "Where was your original home before being captured as a cat slave? I can send you back first."
Hearing this, the cat girl lowered her head. "Ah Mei doesn’t know where her original home is. Since I can remember, I’ve been serving in those merchants’ homes, doing the lowest work... Now that the master and others are dead, I truly have no home."
Ling Feng hesitated; this made things difficult. Without a past home or memories, what could be done?
After a long silence, Ling Feng finally made up his mind. "Alright then, Ah Mei, you can stay with me for now. We can travel together along this journey, and at least, you’ll have some company."
"My name is Ling Feng."
Ah Mei’s eyes lit up as she delightedly said, "Then Master, let Ah Mei take care of your daily life! I’m very skilled at caring for people; my previous master wasn’t very kind, but he still let me babysit."
Ling Feng shook his head seriously. "There’s no need to call me Master. I rescued you; I did not buy you. You are now free. You don’t need to call anyone Master ever again; you are your own master."
"Do whatever you want, go wherever you want, with no more restrictions."
Ling Feng clearly understood that saving Ah Mei was not enough. To truly set her free, he needed to eliminate her internal slave mentality, to stop obeying and become her own sovereign.
"Ah?" Ah Mei hesitated. "But I always used to call others Master. If I don’t call you Master, what should I call you?"
"Just call me Ling Feng, or whatever other name you prefer. Just not Master."
Ah Mei nodded somewhat understandingly. "Then, I’ll call you Ah Feng."
"Whatever." Ling Feng nodded, then stood at the bow of the Ling Yun, gazing at the expanse ahead.
Ling Feng didn’t notice Ah Mei’s look of gratitude, delight, and a hint of surprise. He was also unaware that Ah Mei had developed unusual feelings for someone who insisted on not being called Master.
A warm feeling gradually emerged in Ah Mei’s heart.
Ah Mei walked over to Ling Feng’s side and also stared ahead, asking, "Ah... Ah Feng, where are we heading?"
Just as Ling Feng was about to respond, he suddenly furrowed his brow, his eyes reflecting dazzling light. A powerful storm was forming ahead, with immense suction and intense light.
Ling Feng exclaimed, "Spatial Storm! Ah Mei, get inside!"
Ah Mei also seemed to sense the terror of the storm, nodded her head, and quickly turned back inside but left a small gap in the door to peek at Ling Feng.
"Damn it, why now of all times!" Ling Feng cursed.
A spatial storm was an extremely rare catastrophic event during space travel. Space channels are inherently unstable, prone to violent energy oscillations, triggering spatial storms.
If space bandits were the second most feared catastrophe for travelers, then a spatial storm held the undisputed first place.
Because encountering a spatial storm meant a ninety percent chance of:
Death!
This was the worst scenario anyone could face. If Ling Yun was swallowed by the storm, the violent energy would instantly crush the ship and everything inside!
Ling Feng shouted at the bow, "Activate the strongest defense shield and engage the engines at maximum power! We must escape the storm’s range!"
"Yes!" Ling Yun responded mechanically, channeling almost all of the ship’s energy to combat the storm.
Ling Feng watched with a heavy expression as Ling Yun slowly approached the expanding storm, furrowing his brows. He then stood directly at the bow, attempting to control Ling Yun with his own strength.
The storm fully expanded until a loud bang echoed from within, with massive ripples spreading out and striking the body of the Ling Yun.
"Master, seventy percent of the hull is nearing damage!" Ling Yun reported.
Ling Feng did not respond; he kept his eyes locked onto the storm’s eye.
Then another wave hit, shattering three defense shields. The strongest wave’s impact caused Ling Feng to lose consciousness, collapsing onto the ship’s surface.
In his daze, Ling Feng heard Ah Mei’s exclamation, then saw a brilliant white light before completely losing consciousness.
Without power and defense, Ling Yun was directly engulfed by the storm’s eye. After a violent flash of white light, the entire ship vanished.
