"Old Wang, how’s the harvest recently?" The middle-aged man carrying a hoe on his back asked as he passed by a field.

The man wading through the mud wiped his sweat and replied with a smile, "How can it be? The same as always, but the heavens have been kind this year. The harvest should be a bit better than last year’s and it’s enough to eat."

"That’s good to hear. I’ll trade some of my sweet potatoes for some of your rice later, okay?"

"Of course, we’ve been brothers for so many years, no need to talk about trading. I’ll give you thirty pounds." The old man replied cheerfully.

The middle-aged man laughed heartily and was just about to leave when he seemed to remember something: "I heard from the passing Taoist that things haven’t been peaceful lately. That thing has come out from the mountain, you better be careful and hurry home once it’s dark."

The old man’s expression turned serious, "Could it be a demon..."

"Don’t speak recklessly. Just make sure to head back early. I’m leaving now." The middle-aged man hurriedly said.

The old man pondered for a moment, nodded, and the middle-aged man left reassured.

"Kiddies, stop playing, let’s go have our meal!" The old man washed his feet with the water in the field and then shouted toward the nearby ridge.

"Okay, grandpa!" The little girl with two braids, holding a little flower, ran wobbly to the old man’s side, "Grandpa, look at the flower I picked."

"So pretty," the old man praised, then looked around again, "Kiddie, where’s your brother? Where did he run off to?"

The little girl turned her head, "I don’t know, brother was just here a moment ago."

A bad premonition suddenly surfaced in the old man’s heart. Without caring whether he had grass shoes on, he rushed to the ridge and shouted, "Ye Zi, Ye Zi! Where are you?"

But there was no one around, no response could be heard.

The old man started to panic, picked up the little girl, and began looking for his little grandson nearby.

"Ye Zi!" The old man continued to shout, his voice growing more anxious, but around him, there was only the "whoosh" of the mountain wind blowing down from above.

"Grandpa, grandpa, I’m here!" Suddenly, a tender voice came from the nearby bushes.

A chubby little boy ran out, and upon seeing it was his own grandson, the old man gently pinched his cheek and then picked him up, scolding, "You little rascal, you almost scared your grandpa to death!"

The child named Little Yezi, however, was unaware that he had nearly frightened the old man to death and simply pointed to the forest, saying, "Grandpa, I saw an immortal fall over there, and there was a light like the Sun Lord!"

"You’re just making things up, there are no immortals in this world." The old man brushed his beard against the little grandson’s face.

The little grandson shook his head stubbornly, "Grandpa, I’m not making it up, there really were immortals falling from the sky!"

Only then did the old man feel puzzled, his little grandson wasn’t one to lie, could it really be someone?

So the old man looked at the still not yet dark sky and decided to carry his two grandkids into the forest. He couldn’t bear to leave them even a step behind.

Entering the forest, the old man was shocked, his eyes widening.

There truly was a young man in black lying on the ground.

"Oh," the old man exclaimed in surprise, "This is clearly a young man from the city, how did he end up in the mountains?"

The young man was, of course, Ling Feng. The clothes he wore did not belong to this world, so the old man naturally assumed he was from the city.

The old man went over, patted Ling Feng’s face, and softly called, "Child, child, wake up, why are you here?"

Ling Feng slowly regained consciousness, looking at the unfamiliar face before him with some confusion.

"Who are you?"

"Oh, I’m Old Wang from this village, how did you end up lying here in the forest?" The old man inquired with concern.

Ling Feng got up from the ground, patted his aching head, and suddenly remembered.

He was traveling with Ah Mei when they encountered a spatial storm. The entire Ling Yun was sucked into it.

Ling Feng scanned his surroundings but didn’t find any sign of Ah Mei.

Ling Feng immediately realized something was wrong; the spatial storm was bizarrely powerful. Ah Mei and he were probably separated within the storm, and now he had no idea where she’d been swept away to.

Old Wang came forward to support the seemingly weak and disoriented Ling Feng: "Child, let’s leave here first, go to my house, and I’ll take you to see a doctor."

Although Ling Feng was not injured, he was accompanied by a persistent feeling of dizziness, so he decided to first restore his condition and look for Ah Mei’s whereabouts later.

"Thank you, old man." Ling Feng didn’t forget to thank the old man.

"No need for thanks," the old man said nonchalantly.

And so, the two adults and two children left the forest. Just as they walked out, the sunset finally disappeared over the horizon, the last sliver of sunlight vanished,

and darkness suddenly enveloped the earth!

The old man noticed the sky had darkened and his uneasy foreboding resurfaced: "Young man, we need to hurry; it’s already dark!"

The old man didn’t plan to explain further, just supported Ling Feng, held his grandson, and carried his granddaughter on his back, quickly headed towards the now lantern-lit village.

"Ho—— wo——" a chilling screech came from the forest behind them.

The old man’s face changed: "This isn’t good, hurry up!"

But it was too late; a dark shadow lunged from the dim forest, snatching the granddaughter from Old Wang’s back in an instant.

"My child! My granddaughter!" Old Wang turned back and cried out.

Ling Feng also slowly looked up at the creature before him.

A Black Panther devil beast held the crying girl in its claw and then, standing upright, transformed into human form.

Finally, it grinned and spat out human words: "Hahaha, that damned Taoist has been patrolling around here, keeping me from coming out,"

"Tonight, I’ll feast well!"

Old Wang, remarkably, still maintained his composure at this moment and immediately whispered to Ling Feng beside him: "Young man, you must go, get to the village and you’ll be safe, go tell others that the monster has descended from the mountain!"

Ling Feng looked at the suddenly imposing farmer old man and was stunned, "What about you, old man?"

"Me? Heh, my child and daughter-in-law were killed by these monsters. Now they are after me and my grandchildren. What else can I do?"

Ling Feng couldn’t believe this elder, likely past his prime, still had such courage.

Old Wang roared at the devil beast: "Monster! Don’t harm my grandchildren, let them go, and you can have me to eat!"

Ling Feng noticed Old Wang’s hand had moved towards his hoe. Ling Feng was shocked, was this old man really planning to fight the monster to the death?

The Black Panther devil beast sneered, "Don’t joke, old man. None of you are going anywhere!"

The devil beast lifted the child in its hand, about to put her in its mouth.

"Grandpa save me! Grandpa save me!"

"Monster, don’t hurt my grandchild!" Old Wang was nearly about to pounce, his mouth still crying out.

A red gleam flashed, exceptionally conspicuous in the dark night.

The next moment, the Blade of the Apocalypse was already at the devil beast’s throat, nearly an inch deep.

Ling Feng, who had been weak and frail just a moment ago, had already freed himself from Old Wang’s support, and slowly stepped forward to stand in front of the common people.

"Devil beast, I advise you not to move, or I’ll make you regret ever being born into this world!"

A domineering aura emanated from Ling Feng, and Old Wang dumbly watched as this young man, whom he’d just seen as a helpless youngster, suddenly exhibited such a divine demeanour.

It was truly astonishing!
