Chapter 749: Chapter 749: Public Apology (3)
Julian Caldwell hanging up on her was a huge blow to Susan Caldwell. She had thought he would stick up for her, since he was a man who cared so much about his image. But she’d forgotten something: while he was prideful, he also played by his own set of rules.
Susan Caldwell was absolutely furious. She cursed Julian Caldwell in her mind. She knew he was good to her, but he had never been the type to spoil her rotten. It was a fact she found incredibly frustrating.
’This is the most humiliating day of my life!’ she fumed. ’Not only did Vera Xavier set me up, but I was also beaten up by the very people I’d incited! I was just thinking about how to get my revenge on her, and now I’m being ordered to apologize to her in front of the entire university!’
’I’m the one who got beaten up, and I have to apologize? This is outrageous! I can’t stand it!’
But Susan Caldwell had no other choice. If she didn’t apologize, she would be expelled from Veridia University.
Susan Caldwell gritted her teeth and finally came up with a plan: she would simply faint right there in the phone booth.
The phone booth’s owner was startled and quickly called for help to send her to the infirmary again.
The dean of students also received news that she had fainted. He had a good idea of what was really going on and immediately reported it to Lane Yancey.
Lane Yancey’s brow furrowed slightly. "Since Susan Caldwell has fainted, she won’t be able to apologize to Vera Xavier in front of the university today," he said calmly. "However, the incident will still be announced to everyone. Have her apologize to Vera Xavier privately once she’s recovered."
The dean of students gave a slight nod. By now, Laura White had already finished reading her apology letter in front of the entire university. After she was done, the dean took the microphone and announced, "Student Susan Caldwell was also scheduled to make a public self-criticism at this assembly, but she has suddenly fainted. We will postpone her apology for now..."
Hearing this from her spot in the audience, Vera Xavier wasn’t the least bit surprised. ’If Susan Caldwell were the type to meekly apologize in front of the entire university,’ she thought, ’she wouldn’t be Susan Caldwell.’
Her supposed fainting spell was just an excuse, and not an important one at that.
She stood there quietly, a hint of coldness in her eyes. Regardless, after this, Susan Caldwell’s reputation at Veridia University was completely ruined. The story had already spread across campus. Even with her powerful connections, they would be useless this time.
Standing in the crowd, Autumn Rhodes was utterly shocked. She never imagined that Susan Caldwell, of all people, would be taken down by Vera Xavier. ’Even with her powerful connections, Susan couldn’t quash this!’
She instinctively looked in Vera Xavier’s direction, but with so many people on the athletic field, she couldn’t find her.
A sense of unease crept into her heart. ’If even Susan Caldwell couldn’t handle her, what chance do I have? Could it be that Vera Xavier has powerful connections too?’
For a moment, Autumn Rhodes felt uncertain. She glanced toward Damian Yale, who wasn’t far away. A faint smile was playing on his lips as he tilted his head, looking at something. When she followed his gaze, she realized he was looking directly where Vera Xavier was standing!
A wave of frustration washed over Autumn Rhodes. She truly couldn’t understand what was so special about Vera Xavier to make Damian Yale look at her that way. After all, Damian Yale had never once looked at *her* like that!
