Chapter 737: Chapter 737: Unmasking Her (Part 1)
Although Laura White still felt resentful toward Vera Xavier, she couldn’t help but feel that her defeat was inevitable. Recalling their interactions, she had to admit Vera was gentle, intelligent, and magnanimous. In both vision and bearing, Laura knew she was a step below.
Vera Xavier was perfectly composed. She looked at Crystal Quinn and said, "The eyes of justice? Let me see... which of your eyes is the righteous one?"
Crystal Quinn froze. ’She’s going completely off-script! Anyone else faced with this kind of accusation would be flustered or nervous, but Vera Xavier is asking me this bizarre question!’
Vera Xavier sighed and said, "I don’t see any eyes of justice. What I do see is a pair of eyes belonging to someone who’s been deceived and used as a pawn."
At this, she shouted, "Susan Caldwell, you witnessed the entire incident in the cafeteria. Why don’t you come tell us what happened? Don’t let your roommate be the only one to stick her neck out!"
Her voice sounded quite gentle, and there was a hint of a smile on her lips. She didn’t show the slightest bit of anger from being cornered by Crystal Quinn and the others.
Before pushing Crystal Quinn forward, Susan Caldwell had brainwashed her. After suffering a loss at Vera Xavier’s hands last time, she was unwilling to stick her neck out again over that incident. So now, when Vera called her name, she desperately wanted to pretend she hadn’t heard.
However, Vera Xavier wasn’t about to let her get her wish. She shouted again, "Susan Caldwell saw everything that day! She can prove I was only trying to save someone! Susan Caldwell, come on out and say it!"
By calling out Susan Caldwell’s full name several times, Vera made it impossible for her to keep pretending she hadn’t heard.
And Crystal Quinn, being the airhead she was, yelled to Susan, "Susan, get over here and say something, otherwise she’ll just deny it to the bitter end!"
Susan Caldwell’s plan to control things from behind the scenes had utterly failed. She stood up reluctantly, mentally cursing Crystal Quinn and her entire family tree. ’That idiot!’
Seeing her expression, the corners of Vera Xavier’s mouth lifted slightly. ’Susan Caldwell thinks she can stay out of this? Not a chance in hell!’
Vera Xavier looked at Susan Caldwell with a pleasant smile and said, "Besides my roommates, Fiona Wright and Shirley Ewing, you were the sole witness to the entire incident. Please, tell us what happened that day."
Susan Caldwell saw Laura White standing nearby and said coolly, "Your roommate Laura White also witnessed the whole thing that day. Why don’t you ask her to speak first!"
Laura White cursed inwardly. ’Son of a bitch!’ She had no desire to get dragged into this mess again. She said coolly, "I wasn’t in the cafeteria that day. I was in my dorm, reading. I have no idea what happened."
With that, she turned, her expression cold, and walked toward the drill instructor with her written apology in hand.
Susan Caldwell was taken aback by Laura White’s response. They had formed an alliance, so this was completely unexpected.
In her grand scheme, Laura White was supposed to be one of her pawns. Now that pawn had gone rogue. Something must have gone wrong, but she had no idea what.
Susan Caldwell called out to Laura White again, but this time, it was Laura’s turn to play deaf.
Laura White wasn’t stupid. After seeing Vera Xavier’s methods—and the powerful backing she had—the day before, she wasn’t about to carelessly pick the wrong side again.
