The Billionaire Who Stole His Wife
Chapter 52: Pier Seventeen
Rain lashed against Boston Harbor hard enough to blur the city skyline into silver and black smears.
The convoy tore through the industrial district at reckless speed.
SUV engines roared.
Tires screamed across soaked pavement.
Sirens echoed somewhere in the distance.
Inside the lead vehicle, tension sat so thick it felt alive.
Anthony Morrison was shaking beside the door.
Not dramatic shaking.
Not manipulative trembling.
Real fear.
The kind that hollowed people out from the inside.
Blood still streaked down the side of his face from the warehouse fight while his hands twisted together hard enough to turn his knuckles white.
Across from him, Theo watched quietly.
That somehow made Anthony more nervous.
Because Theo smiling was dangerous.
Theo going quiet?
Terrifying.
Anthony swallowed hard and looked toward Lucian in the front passenger seat.
"You really think they’ll keep her alive?"
Lucian didn’t turn around.
"Yes."
Anthony blinked.
"That confident?"
Lucian’s voice came out cold and precise.
"They’re using Clara strategically. Which means she’s more valuable alive."
Anthony let out a breath.
Then Lucian added—
"For now."
Anthony looked sick again.
Allison sat beside Lucian, one hand gripping the overhead handle as the SUV whipped around another corner.
Her forehead still hurt from headbutting a grown man earlier.
Which honestly felt unfair.
She glanced sideways at Lucian.
He had gone still again.
Too still.
His jaw was locked tight enough to crack teeth.
His eyes remained fixed on the storm outside.
Focused.
Calculating.
Furious.
But underneath all of it—
Scared.
Allison saw it anyway.
Even when he hid it.
She reached over slowly and touched the side of his hand resting against his thigh.
Lucian’s fingers immediately turned, intertwining with hers automatically.
Like instinct.
Like grounding himself.
He still didn’t look at her.
But his grip tightened slightly.
Allison leaned closer.
"We’re getting her back."
His voice lowered.
"I know."
"You don’t sound convinced."
Finally, Lucian looked at her.
And God.
That expression hurt.
Because underneath the control and strategy—
He blamed himself.
Allison understood it instantly.
"You couldn’t stop this."
His jaw flexed.
"I should’ve."
"No."
The word came out sharper than she intended.
Lucian stared at her.
Allison held his gaze steadily.
"You are not responsible for every terrible person in the world."
A humorless smile almost appeared.
"That sounds optimistic."
"It sounds sane."
Theo’s voice came from the back.
"Honestly, I vote we unpack the emotionally devastating guilt complex after the armed hostage rescue."
Simone, seated beside Elias in the second row, pointed dramatically.
"See? Growth. He’s learning emotional vocabulary."
Theo looked offended.
"I’ve always had emotional vocabulary."
"You threatened three people in the warehouse with a smile."
"That is emotional expression."
Anthony muttered weakly, "You people are insane."
Simone looked at him.
"Anthony, respectfully, nobody asked the hostage supplier."
Anthony winced.
Fair.
Very fair.
Adrian sat in the third SUV coordinating security routes through encrypted calls while Susanna remained back at the estate after nearly tearing apart three staff members trying to follow the convoy herself.
Allison could still hear her mother yelling before they left.
"If anything happens to her again, Adrian, I swear to God—"
Honestly?
Valid.
Elias’s laptop suddenly beeped sharply.
Everyone looked over instantly.
"We found the ship," Elias said.
Lucian straightened immediately.
"Name."
Elias typed rapidly.
"Cargo vessel registered under a shell company. Docked at Pier Seventeen thirty-two minutes ago." He frowned slightly. "Manifest says it’s transporting medical supplies."
Theo snorted.
"That’s never true."
Elias nodded.
"It’s definitely not true."
Anthony swallowed hard.
"Pier Seventeen has restricted access after midnight."
Lucian looked back at him finally.
"Can you get us through?"
Anthony hesitated.
Then nodded once.
"...Yeah."
Theo leaned forward slightly.
"Be honest. Is this a trap?"
Anthony looked exhausted.
"I genuinely don’t know anymore."
That answer felt real.
Which was somehow worse.
⸻
Pier Seventeen
The harbor looked like war.
Massive cranes loomed over dark water while shipping containers towered in endless rows beneath violent rain and flickering dock lights.
Cargo ships groaned against the docks.
Fog rolled low across the harbor.
And somewhere out there—
Clara was trapped inside a moving container.
Allison’s stomach twisted.
Lucian exited the SUV first again, black coat already soaked within seconds.
Anthony stumbled out after him and immediately froze.
"Oh no."
Lucian turned sharply.
"What."
Anthony pointed shakily toward the security checkpoint ahead.
Morrison security guards.
Not normal guards.
Armed.
And waiting.
Theo stepped beside Lucian.
"That’s not suspicious at all."
One of the guards noticed Anthony instantly.
His hand moved toward his earpiece.
Wrong move.
Theo moved before anyone else.
Fast.
He crossed the distance through pouring rain and slammed the guard against the checkpoint wall hard enough to knock the radio loose before the man could speak.
The second guard reached for his weapon.
Lucian intercepted him midway.
One brutal strike to the wrist.
The gun clattered across wet pavement.
Lucian grabbed the man’s jacket and drove him face-first into the security gate hard enough to dent metal.
Anthony stared.
"...Jesus Christ."
Simone blinked from beside Elias.
"Okay. Lucian fights like a man who absolutely had private military tutors as a child."
Theo called back casually while zip-tying the first guard.
"He did."
Lucian shot him a look.
Theo grinned.
"What? Rich people lore is fascinating."
Allison moved toward the security panel quickly.
"Can we focus on the kidnapped child before the trauma backstories?"
"Fair," Theo admitted.
Anthony swiped his old executive access card through the checkpoint scanner with shaking hands.
For one horrible second—
Nothing happened.
Then the gate buzzed green.
Anthony exhaled sharply.
"Oh thank God."
Lucian looked toward the massive cargo ship docked near the far end of the pier.
Black hull.
Minimal markings.
Too quiet.
"Move."
The team spread out immediately.
Adrian’s security split into flanking positions while Elias tracked the container feed bouncing through harbor signals.
"Container is moving internally," Elias called through comms. "Somebody’s repositioning it."
Allison’s pulse jumped.
"She’s awake."
Lucian’s face darkened further.
Then suddenly—
A child screamed.
Everyone froze.
The sound echoed faintly through the storm.
Real.
Not recording.
Clara.
Lucian moved instantly.
Too fast.
Allison grabbed his arm sharply.
"Wait."
Lucian turned toward her.
"That was bait."
"And if it wasn’t?"
His voice cracked slightly on the words.
Tiny.
But enough.
Allison’s chest tightened painfully.
Because this was no longer just anger driving him.
He genuinely cared about Clara now.
Theo noticed too.
Which was why Theo stepped forward calmly.
"We clear the ship first. Controlled movement."
Lucian looked ready to argue.
Adrian’s voice came sharply through comms.
"He’s right."
Lucian inhaled once.
Then nodded tightly.
"Fine."
Theo blinked dramatically.
"Oh wow. Emotional growth."
Lucian ignored him.
The boarding ramp groaned under heavy rain as they climbed onto the ship.
The deck looked abandoned.
Too abandoned.
Shipping containers stacked high into the darkness.
Chains rattling in the wind.
No visible crew.
Anthony whispered—
"I hate this."
Allison muttered, "At least we agree on something."
Then movement.
A man stepped out from behind one of the containers ahead.
Not Dorian.
Different.
Tall.
Military build.
Black tactical gear.
He raised his weapon immediately.
Theo fired first.
Chaos exploded across the deck.
Gunfire ripped through the storm while Adrian’s security spread out behind cargo stacks.
Lucian shoved Allison behind a steel container just as bullets sparked against metal inches from them.
Anthony screamed and hit the deck flat.
Simone crouched beside Elias behind another stack and hissed—
"If I die before sleeping with him, I’ll be furious."
Elias nearly got shot turning toward her.
"WHAT?"
Simone pointed toward him.
"You heard me!"
"This is the worst possible time!"
Theo shouted from across the deck—
"I weirdly support this!"
Lucian barked—
"FOCUS!"
Another attacker rushed around the far container row.
Allison saw him first.
"Left!"
Lucian turned instantly.
The attacker swung the butt of his rifle toward Lucian’s head.
Lucian ducked under it, caught the man’s arm, and slammed him into the container hard enough to make the metal ring.
The attacker recovered quickly.
Too quickly.
Professional.
He drove a punch into Lucian’s ribs.
Lucian barely reacted.
Instead he grabbed the man’s tactical vest and drove his knee upward violently.
The attacker folded.
Lucian slammed him onto the wet deck.
Out cold.
Anthony stared from the ground nearby like he was watching mythology happen in real time.
"How are you real?"
Allison shouted back—
"Generational wealth and unresolved issues!"
Theo burst out laughing while fighting another attacker.
Then a gunshot cracked too close.
Allison turned just in time to see one of Dorian’s men grab Anthony from behind.
Anthony screamed.
The man pressed a gun against his head and dragged him backward toward the container rows.
"MOVE AND HE DIES!"
Everything froze.
Rain hammered the deck.
Anthony looked pale enough to pass out.
Theo’s expression darkened instantly.
The attacker shouted again—
"DROP THE WEAPONS!"
Lucian’s eyes went flat.
Deadly flat.
The man holding Anthony noticed.
And panicked slightly.
Wrong move.
Anthony suddenly stomped backward onto the attacker’s foot hard enough to make him curse.
Then Anthony twisted sideways wildly.
Not graceful.
Not skilled.
Desperate.
But enough.
Theo moved like a bullet.
One second he stood twenty feet away.
The next he slammed into the attacker hard enough to send both men crashing across the deck.
The gun fired.
Everyone ducked.
Theo punched the man once.
Twice.
Three times.
Fast.
Brutal.
The attacker reached for a knife.
Theo caught the wrist and twisted until something snapped.
The man screamed.
Theo slammed his head against the deck.
Out cold.
Anthony sat there shaking violently.
Theo stood over him breathing hard.
Then held out a hand casually.
Anthony stared at it.
"...You saved me."
Theo looked mildly uncomfortable suddenly.
"Don’t make it weird."
Anthony took the hand shakily anyway.
Before anyone could move again—
A metallic clang echoed deep inside the ship.
Everyone turned.
Elias’s voice exploded through comms.
"I FOUND THE SIGNAL."
Lucian spun toward him instantly.
"Where?"
Elias pointed toward the lower cargo hold.
"Container B-12!"
Lucian moved immediately.
Allison right behind him.
The lower cargo corridors were narrow and dark, emergency lights flashing red through the steel hallways while water dripped from pipes overhead.
Then—
A small voice echoed faintly through the hall.
"Hello?"
Clara.
Lucian stopped dead.
The little girl sounded terrified.
"Allison," Lucian said quietly.
She looked at him.
"If something happens—"
"Don’t," she interrupted sharply.
His eyes locked onto hers.
"You are not finishing that sentence."
The tension between them cracked open for half a second there.
Fear.
Love.
Need.
Raw enough that even Theo looked away awkwardly.
Then Clara cried out again.
Lucian moved first.
They rounded the final corridor corner—
And found the container.
Unlocked.
Half-open.
Lucian yanked the doors wide.
Empty.
Silence.
Everyone froze.
Then Allison noticed it first.
The teddy bear.
Small.
Brown.
Sitting alone in the center of the container floor.
Lucian slowly stepped inside.
Then stopped.
A blinking red light sat beneath the bear.
Theo’s eyes widened instantly.
"Oh shit."
Lucian grabbed Allison and shoved her backward just as Theo screamed—
"MOVE!"
