The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress
Chapter 1346 - 1286: I Have This Function Too
"Sabrina Johnson, do you think I’m stupid and easy to deceive? You’re trying to fool me again!" Pauline Briggs’ anger was causing her stomach to ache.
Another unfamiliar number called in, and Pauline guessed it was Sabrina Johnson again.
"Is this never-ending?"
Pauline was planning to hang up, but then she thought about Sabrina’s relentless attitude. If she didn’t answer, what if Sabrina called her daughter’s phone with a different number?
"Sabrina Johnson, what on earth are you doing?"
"Mom, for the sake of our mother-daughter relationship, please help me just this once. My son is growing up and can’t continue to stay in prison with me. He’s innocent; he hasn’t committed any crime. How can he keep living in prison?"
Pauline’s brow furrowed deeply, but she didn’t say a word.
"Mom, Joy is very well-behaved, and he listens. Can you please take care of him?"
"Impossible!" Pauline would never raise someone else’s child.
"Mom..." Sabrina started to cry, her voice filled with utmost sorrow. Pauline, usually soft-hearted, steeled her heart this time.
The man she loved most was killed by this woman. How could she raise Sabrina’s child? Wouldn’t that be rubbing salt into her own wounds?
Sienna Johnson didn’t like Sabrina, and it had been difficult enough to mend her relationship with Sienna. Was she out of her mind to bring Sabrina’s son into the house to raise him?
With four kids at home, she was already overwhelmed. How could she take care of Sabrina’s child?
"What goes around comes around. Misfortune will fall onto you, onto your descendants... Sabrina, this is karma!"
Pauline hung up and blocked the number.
Pauline hung up and immediately called her eldest brother, Annan Briggs, to explain Sabrina’s situation.
Annan advised, "Pauline, you must not get confused about this issue."
Annan was worried Pauline would soften, but Sabrina’s case was something not to be touched.
"Eldest brother, I know. I’m just fed up with her pestering. Sabrina couldn’t reach me, so she called Sienna’s phone. Luckily, Sienna didn’t answer."
"I understand. You should stay out of this, and don’t mention it to Sienna, understood?"
"Yes, I understand."
Annan took the matter into his own hands, and only then did Pauline breathe a sigh of relief.
When Pauline returned, the dumplings were already made, and Sienna was cooking them. Pauline quietly placed Sienna’s phone back and put Sabrina’s issue out of her mind.
"Mom, I want meat-filled dumplings. Isn’t that okay?" Curly shouted.
The dumplings just cooked were three-flavor filling, which Curly didn’t like.
"Alright, alright."
The family gathered, enjoying a lively meal of dumplings to celebrate Sienna’s return.
Sienna watched the smiling faces of the children, suddenly filled with regret. If only Adrian Desmond were here. She missed him, missed him dearly.
...
After dinner, Sienna put the four children to bed.
Claire slept with Sienna, while Sheehan and Hugo shared a room next door.
Before falling asleep, Sienna contemplated Pauline’s strange behavior and took out her phone.
The call log showed two unfamiliar numbers; Sienna investigated and found they were from the North District Prison in Sileria City.
"Could it be Sabrina?"
Suddenly, the phone rang, startling Sienna from her thoughts.
"Adrian?"
Sienna answered, and Adrian complained, "Why did it take you so long to pick up?"
Sienna laughed, "It only rang a few extra times."
"Who were you talking to this afternoon? I couldn’t get through to you."
"This afternoon? What time?"
"Around four o’clock."
Sienna frowned, recalling that it was when her mother was talking with Sabrina, "Was it for long?"
"What do you mean?"
Sienna explained, "I received a call today looking for my mom, but it came to my phone. My mom mysteriously took my phone to answer it. I just checked the phone number’s location, and it was a landline from the North District Prison in Sileria City."
"..."
"Sabrina happens to be in the North District Prison in Sileria City..."
Adrian said, "Are you saying that when I called you, mom was talking to Sabrina?"
"I’m only making a guess, not certain yet."
Thinking of Pauline’s character, Sienna felt uneasy, "I can’t take chances. I’ll have Lucas Robertson investigate. My mom has a soft and gullible nature, and I’m really afraid Sabrina might have her under control."
Adrian responded, "Don’t worry. Sabrina can’t cause much trouble."
"Yeah, I know."
To Sienna, Sabrina, a jailed woman, posed no real threat. If Sabrina behaved herself in prison, that would be best. If she acted out, Sienna would not hesitate to be harsh.
Adrian didn’t want to spend such precious time with her discussing another woman, so he changed the topic.
"Now that you’ve left, who’s going to warm my bed? I can’t sleep."
Sienna sat on the bed, thinking about the hot weather in Abyanabad, and joked, "Sixth Master, isn’t it too hot to sleep without air conditioning in Abyanabad?"
"I’m feeling cold inside."
"I’m tired, I’m going to sleep."
Adrian, suffering from insomnia, didn’t want Sienna to sleep so early, "I can’t sleep; talk with me for a bit longer. Maybe after chatting for a while, I’ll fall asleep."
"I have that kind of skill?"
"Mrs. Desmond has many skills."
Sienna chatted with Adrian about the kids, and the more she talked, the more excited she became, unable to stop. Adrian truly felt grateful for having had a vasectomy; otherwise, with more kids, he wouldn’t even have a place in Sienna’s heart.
"... Claire is increasingly introverted. I’ll take her to see a psychiatrist sometime."
Adrian asked, "Is it that serious?"
"Claire particularly lacks a sense of security." Sienna glanced at her little daughter lying in bed, stroking her tiny hand. Claire opened her eyes, saw it was her mother, and pulled Sienna’s hand towards her mouth.
Sienna gently held her little hand and patted it; Claire soon fell asleep again.
"Adrian, when can you come back?"
"What, you miss me?"
"Yes, very much."
Sienna rarely expressed her emotions so frankly, making Adrian’s heart stir. He said, "If you miss me, I can come back now."
Hearing Adrian’s irrational response, Sienna regretted teasing him, "Finish everything in Abyanabad, and then come."
"That would take at least a month."
"Are you really planning to shut down all your business in Abyanabad?"
"The particularly profitable ones will continue. Kiya has given me many privileges, so even if I close a third of the business, my profits are still higher than before."
Thinking about Paige, who didn’t want to return to Abyanabad, Sienna asked, "Did you promise Kiya anything?"
"No. Kiya is desperate for me to stay in Abyanabad... He fears that if I settle down in Sileria City, Paige wouldn’t want to return either."
